It’s 1952 and the world is still recovering from the brutality of WWII, including Mercedes. So how did Mercedes return to prominence just a decade after the war? How did Rudolph Uhlenahut create the world’s first supercar using only parts from the Mercedes parts bin? And how did he shape Mercedes into the brand we know today? Today on Past Gas, part three of four on our history of Mercedes.

You guys really need to touch base on the story of the Daytona challenge in 1963, where a Pontiac Tempest beat out some of the best racecars from around the world... by a landslide... Then the car magically disappeared some say porsche Purchase the car... It has never been seen again

The w115 w114 generation cars were the first mass produced car mercedes made, almost 2 million world wide. They normalized the overbuilt 3 pointed star for the more average buyer. Its no SL or S class but its the predecessor to the E class and i think deserves its flowers.

Yeah, I think those cars get overlooked as well. If I were to get a classic Merc, it would either be the w114 or w115, even its successor the w123 - one of their more utilitarian models, that can still be used as taxis in Africa and Central Asia. Probably easier to own when sourcing parts, fewer features so fewer things that can break, and hopefully cheaper too

@@seanwebb995 w123 parts are a lot easier to source still than w115 parts. Less expensive than newer Merc parts, definitely. I have a w115 and it's a nightmare to source some things, but it's worth it. Quality 50 years ago meant solid materials and top notch craftsmanship now it's about gadgets and power. Both are cool but solid is solid and old mercs stand up to the test of time. Awesome cars, probably won't buy anything else ever haha

@@jacintocabrales6372 Interesting that the W123 is easier to get parts for than the w115, maybe Mercedes Benz made more 123 gen cars than the 115, or being a newer car, therefore more likely to still have parts in production (certainly, I see way more 123 gen cars in my area than the w115 models, and probably why I'd prefer a w123) 100% with the comment about the quality, solid materials and top notch craftsmanship, one of the reasons I want a classic Mercedes. I've also watched a number of videos on DW REV's channel - cars and mobility - that talk about classic Mercs and how tough and durable they are compared to modern cars.
