August, 1958. Nissan ad man Yutaka Katayama, known to most as Mr. K, is in Sydney, Australia was leading a two car team of Datsun 210s in the brand’s first official motorsport event.The brand had gotten its start barely 20 years ago, and was now in Australia to build brand recognition for their impending global expansion. It was a huge gamble. And one that would pay off. But how are the histories of Datsun and Nissan intertwined?? How did Yoshisuke Aikawa’s leadership turn Japan into an automotive manufacturing powerhouse? And how did Mr. K revolutionize automotive advertising and bring prestige and recognition to Nissan and Datsun worldwide? Today on Past Gas, the first of our two-part series on DATSUN.

I actually saw a Z31 300zx in the junkyard a few days ago. It was completely untouched and I'm thinking of going back to get some parts before it gets crushed. I'd rather have the parts and preserve them for someone else to use rather than have them get crushed

My parents brought me home from the hospital in a 69 510 2 door after being born on a cold December morning in 1985. It was lowered with old school bbs's. My mom blew the engine and my dad got rid of it. Hire Ryan Adams

I thought it was super weird that Nissan was just named after the owner of the company, and not based on the Japanese word for older brother, "niisan". Seems like a hell of a missed opportunity, they're literally pronounced the exact same way.

My first car was a 300zx z31 that was turbo. It had it but it didn't work because for some reason previous owner made it a carburetor. Rusty as fuck but even more fun to drive. I miss that car to this day.

Mabey Olympics and the world fair could be a joint venture. That way logistically and financially they would only be developing the one place. Plus having summer and winter having a theme split between the 2. Endless entertainment opportunities. So much money to be made lol.

When I was a kid, fractions initially confused me because I thought "and a half" and "in a half" were both real math terms. So one AND a half would obviously be 1.5, and one IN a half would be 0.5, and 3 IN a half would be 1.5. I think my teachers started articulating a bit more around me lol.
