@@Gamedraco Maybe because it’s an intentional reference? I mean just look at the cover of ‘Dirt’, the color pallet, lighting, contrast, and not to mention the nature of the songs, and tell me they weren’t thinking at the time: “That would fit DOOM so well!” Wether they did this with the bands permission or not, I don’t know, but sometimes the deepest form of imitation is the biggest sign of flattery. Call it a homage to one of the greatest bands of the 1990s.

I just recently played through both episodes of Final Doom, and they are balls hard. If you're not careful, it's very easy to end up a big ol' pile o' them bones.

Fact: The music in this track is based off of "Them Bones" by Alice in Chains while the title is a reference to the song "American Pie" by folk singer Don McLean, who wrote the song about the decline of the American dream following the tragic deaths of rock stars Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper in a plane crash.

I thought it was called Bye Bye American Pie since one person who worked on Doom 2 was American McGee, and Bobby had habits of naming Doom songs after people (ie Adrain's Asleep, Donna to the Rescue, Into Sandy's City, etc)

Since you mentioned it, I visited the site of the plane crash that killed those musicians outside of Clear Lake, Iowa. Glad I checked it out but nobody mentioned that it's only accessible by a few miles of gravel roads among farmlands! 😜

In my memory the music was exactly Them Bones without Layne's vocals. Dooms soundtrack is one of the best game soundtracks. Got me into all types of rock music

By complete coincidence, I heard Them Bones for the first time around the same time I got introduced to Doom with Doom 3 and always associate them with one another. Pretty wild that the developers had similar thoughts.

Grew up playing Doom 2 as a wee kid. Loved this track. Years later as a teenager, I played Grand Theft Auto San Andreas and was introduced to Alice in Chains - Them Bones in the in-game radio. Thought it sounded vaguely familiar...
