*_”You’re watching media wrong…”_* At long last, the Patricius Villæmus Axiom is applicable… Like my granddaddy used to say: _Even a stopped asshole farts the right time twice a day_ When Caitlyn asks the guard what happened, we are shown Vi walking up to Silco’s henchman (while he’s having lunch) and caving his face in. It’s safe to assume that the guard was describing this scene to Caitlyn, which could lead her to conclude that: 1) Vi is a psycho that beats people up randomly FOR NOUGH REASON! *OR* 2) Vi knows that guy and has a personal motive to assault him. This may be a thin lead, but it’s reasonable enough for Caitlyn (or any competent detective) wanting to speak with Vi.

I mean tbf, I think what he's catching here but cannot point towards is that their relationship is weird and is supposed to be weird. I absolutely don't think they're fucking but it's strange for a grown woman to be sitting in her "father's" lap, and there are a couple of scenes that have a "typically" romantic undertone. I think it just points towards the fact that the lines in their relationship are unclear, and Silco is not a healthy caretaker despite loving her very much. Part of that is probably the fact that Silco sees a lot of himself in Jinx, and Jinx naturally clings and depends on people she's close to like that. So their boundaries get kind of weird and unhealthy.
@justhanditover
@justhanditover 3 ай бұрын
@@panonymousbloom5405 Their relationship is clear. They are a family unit. Silco sees her as his daughter. He loves her and would do anything for her. He is not good at being a parent except for what is already said. Jinx on the other hand never stops being a child with serious problems. Silco never teaches her to be an adult because that would mean she could leave him. His love for HIS daughter unmakes him. Anything for Zuan changes to anything for Jinx because that is his Zuan.

@@panonymousbloom5405 I have no idea what other “romantic” undertones you’re talking about. The ONLY scene that is a bit sus is when Jinx was sitting in his lap but that can be easily explained as her still having a childish mindset

@@comeatmebro8120 "a bit sus" Be fr. The river scene is also romantically charged. Look, I'm not gonna sit there and analyze their every interaction under a romantic lens because I'm not a shipper, and I feel like it's a waste of my time. But if you so vehemently deny their relationship is weirdly intimate and a bit uncomfortable, you're either in hardcore denial or cannot read relationships very well. Do you think there may be a reason why people either confuse them as lovers, or why there's a ton of post being uncomfortable with their relationship, all over social media? Lol.

@smileyhappyface5864 5 ай бұрын
@@leadfaun Okay, look. The guy who said it's "obviously not weird" was because he assumed your use of the word "weird" meant "sexual". In the normal use of the word weird, every scene with Jinx is weird in some way. The scene in episode 5 is just the first where Jinx doesn't seem to be in control of the situation as much, and since this scene comes right after Mel and Jayce's sex scene, the idea of something sexual comes to mind quickly. Regardless of this, if the idea that there is something sexual between them came to mind BEFORE this scene or continued AFTER, then you need therapy. Not exaggerating. Jinx was sitting on his lap so she could help him with his eye medicine, and the general touching is because her hallucinations are less of a problem if she can physically touch the things in front of her. All it takes is a look at Silco's face to know there's nothing more to it than that.

What better place to hide her than a place where she's not even supposed to be in the first place. Couple that with the guards being obviously corrupt and probably paid off, I can see the logic. Organized Chaos is black listed from EFAP for the exact same reasons Synthetic Man is; he's an indoctrinated zealot for a political position that he's too stupid to understand, uses politics as a substitute for personality or independent thought, and he's a malicious, arrogant, bad faith actor. If either were to go on EFAP, they would only be trying to exploit the exchange to signal boost and bring more attention to themselves, and slander their hosts, but as soon as they realize they're too idiotic and inept to engage in the conversation or have been backed into a corner that the only way it is to admit their prerogative is wrong, they'll just throw a tantrum and start throwing caustic slurs. Whether or not a topic is worth discussing further is based on everyone's opinion on the subject. Not based on how much time you take on a subject. I feel like Silco and Jinx's relationship is very intimate for an adopted father-daughter relationship, some might say it's even too intimate to the point of being inappropriate, but it's extremely obvious that it is Jinx who is initiating all of the physical touch and Silco is going along with it and reciprocating it to, one would assume, not discourage her, because he does love her and care about her as if she was his child, he likes it, but again it's because he loves Jinx as a daughter, not because he gets off to it and he never takes advantage of her, and it's obvious within Silco's character that there are still very much boundaries present between the two that Jinx wouldn't think of crossing because she respects Silco and loves him too

I can see how at a cursory glance looking purely at the visuals and body language between Jinx and Silco, one might think there's a romantic dynamic there. But in the context of the narrative, Jinx is an emotionally stunted, traumatized, damaged child in the body of a coming-of-age woman, who has been raised in a seedy underworld overrun with sex, drugs, and violence. She only has her adoptive father-figure in the murderous, calculating kingpin Silco and the tormenting voices of her dead family members to guide her maturation. I think we are shown or can at least safely infer that she has a seriously warped perception of how to exhibit power, precariously oscillating between poles of passion, dispassion, submission, dominance, confidence, doubt, suffering, and gratification. Inevitably there are going to be moments of intimacy where she verges on romantic presentation with Silco, but she also acts similarly around other characters. She acts with hostility toward all of them at times as well. Her personality is marked centrally by instability. But even if we grant the possibility that Jinx does see Silco with some confused romantic sentiment, it is exceptionally clear from Silco's characterization and narrative arc that he views Jinx platonically as a daughter and a reflection of himself, a new chapter in the legacy of cyclical violence that gave birth to him and shaped the undercity into what it is now. I really appreciate that Arcane Season 1 was willing to let the characters interact in complex ways informed by their personalities and goals without needing to spell out every underlying element for the audience in dialogue. Yet apparently some people still needed that.

@@robbomegavlkafenryka6158 It's also technically entirely possible that Wolf JUST RECENTLY watched those EFAPs for the *first* time ever, and *that's* why he may have felt passionate enough about this particular topic to make the highlights. It's also possible that, since this is a "highlights" channel anyway, this is just the current highlight that was on the docket, and there's no real "reason" for why *this* particular highlight was made or released *now,* other than because it *was,* by definition, a "highlight" of EFAP, and thus he simply made the video, and he'll be editing a new video about a completely different "tism arc" in a week from now, and never mention Doomer again. EFAP and its fanbase really highlight the importance of being able to handle criticism. Jay began their interaction with this channel as one of the videos they were covering and making fun of. But because Jay was able to roll with the punches, and accept the criticisms that were levied, Jay has now become one of the most liked reoccurring guests on the show. A similar tale is happening with CinematicVenom, though I haven’t seen how that will go, yet. Doomer on the other hand, began his interactions as a guest on the podcast, his videos were never put under the spotlight. But because he couldn’t handle even the most basic criticisms of his takes, he’s become one of the most clowned-on figures in the community. This applies to real life as well. Criticism, even jokes at one’s expense, doesn’t equal hatred of the individual. An inability to laugh at oneself, will cause genuine hate to rise, but if you can laugh at yourself, and better yet, also throw jokes back, then you can maybe even find some long time friends where you’d least expect.

@@AstrodeBastro Yeah no problem man. But as to what Doomer was referring to, we simply have no way of knowing what he was particularly picturing in his head, as he never showed enough interest in re-engaging this disagreement as scenes like the one you mentioned were coming and going. I don't *think* that's the scene he was referring to, but it's not because I can think of a better example for him to use, it's just because I assumed that he would've taken a scene much later out of context by accident. Like when Caitlyn and Vi are laying on the bed together, my assumption was that he was going to misinterpret scenes that were WELL beyond this initial "distrusting" stage of their relationship. Perhaps *I* am wrong, but frankly I consider my assumption to be *better* faith than if I assumed he was being *THIS* disagreeable over a much smaller and weaker example of "trust" than this scene provides, ya know? He's VERY adamant about his belief, and I don't think he *deserves* to be *THAT* adamant if what *you* said was *his* example, yeah? Seems like he must've had something bigger on his mind than a short clip of Caitlyn rolling her eyes. My impression was that he thought he saw something VERY noticeable and blatant, like he was in shock that nobody else noticed it. Which to me would signify that he probably misinterpreted a scene that took place *after* they already trusted each other. What's kinda funny though, now that I think about it, is that regardless of what he was or wasn't thinking of at the time, he kinda has a mirror-image scenario going on in relation to Caitlyn and Vi's relationship, just like Jinx... he's fightin' some demons in there trying to figure out how those two are associated with each other.

Any cop or investigator worth a damn would definitely look into that. Perhaps the aggressor is from a rival gang that has information on them that they'd be willing to give for a perk or reduction on their sentence. As for the reaction, cops get information from other inmates all the time about ongoing or previous cases about others inmates they're celled with or hear about. Finally, we can assume most criminals in their land are sent to the same prison, if the world had established there being multiple prisons then it would have been convenient they ended up in the same one but they've already established in the same scene that V has beaten up all of Silco's men sent there, so it only makes sense she'd do the same, especially if all the criminals were to end up in the same place. The story already showed everything it needed to set itself up, it might seem cliche but it's definitely not convenient.

The frustrating thing about Doomer isn't his takes, _everyone_ has bad takes from time to time. It's the fact that he doubles down and stubbornly refuses to be wrong over the *tiniest* things. Like here, he clearly just misremembers scenes and the rest of the cast are understandably confused and try to help him out, instead of listening and taking in what everyone is saying he doubles down harder and harder until they have to practically shove the evidence in his face. And of course it all came to a head in the New Years Eve episode where he came out with an absolutely horrendous take that made no sense whatsoever, shifted goalposts constantly and refused to budge on his position whatsoever to the point where even Mauler lost his temper a little.

I was on Doomer’s side… for a moment. When they introduced Jinx and Silco and she’s sitting on his lap, with an arm over him, with their faces kinda close, I thought it might mean something. It’s not something I’d expect out of a teen/adult with their parent. You’d only see that with a child or a lover, so I think that was odd because that’s how they chose to reveal those characters. That said, it wasn’t long before it became more clear it was a father/(adopted) daughter sort of relationship. Odd introduction, but that confusing setup didn’t last long.
@Volthoom
@Volthoom 6 ай бұрын
Well, their relationship is meant to be weird and kinda unnatural/unhealthy(which, given how it started, how could it not be), just not in the way Doomer was going on about. Like, i get people who look at baptism scene and get an ick, i really do. But that ick should get dispelled by the rest of the season, in which Silco exclusively acts like a caring and desperate father.

I don't think it was raised in the debate, but if an investigator went to question their sole known surviving eyewitness/accessory to a crime, and discovered they had been instantly attacked and silenced at the earliest opportunity to catch them outside the presence of guards, wouldn't your default assumption be that the culprit for this attack was a hitman/intimidator who is part of the criminal enterprise you are investigating? I think the logic here behind questioning Vi goes far beyond "not having any other leads." From Caitlyn's perspective, this surely reeks of a botched assassination to tie up loose ends, so Vi is now a clear person of interest that needs to be interrogated about involvement in a potential conspiracy. The nature and structure of the questions she poses to Vi in the prison scene clearly line up with this reading of the situation. Caitlyn is trying to determine Vi's motives for the attack, meanwhile Vi is disinterested in answering questions as she assumes this enforcer is yet another corrupt/power-tripping goon with a badge sent to deal with her, who must already know the situation. It's only when she name drops Silco, to Caitlyn's apparent bewilderment, that Vi realizes Caitlyn is probably just naive rather than playing dumb, establishing that perhaps talking to this enforcer isn't a complete waste of time. Similarly for Caitlyn, the animosity and flippancy in Vi's responses are clear indicators that she is not attempting concealment or appeasement to avoid suspicion, and is instead voicing her genuine, unfiltered frustrations, though she is not forthcoming with all her knowledge due to the misconception that Caitlyn must already be working with more information to have arrived here. Once the two begin to understand that the other is not exactly who they first assumed, it leads to Caitlyn showing Powder's graffiti to Vi, who is unable to temper her shock and earnest intrigue in discovering evidence of her sister being alive, as she excitedly leaps closer and demands to know more information about the image. The implication is clear: Vi recognizes this artwork, but won't reveal more until she gets additional context. This could be a ploy to extract information about the investigation from Caitlyn, but this reaction would be highly inconsistent with her attitude from the beginning of the interrogation, leaving Caitlyn to conclude the reaction is more likely than not to be genuine. But as she lacks the context Vi is seeking from her, there are no further avenues to explore on this matter for now, so she pivots back to the lead regarding Silco. This requires a visit to the undercity, which Caitlyn is ill-equipped to do without a guide who she can be confident is not part of the conspiracy. Vi recognizes this and calls attention to the dilemma, possibly in the hopes of positioning her candidacy as a guide, but also possibly out of a sincere interest in not sending the one enforcer who seems to care about exposing Silco's dealings to inevitably fumble the case on her lonesome. Vi doesn't necessarily know that Caitlyn won't have other colleagues or contacts she can rely on, even if she can infer a bit from Caitlyn's current lack of backup. This interaction terminates in neither party having the information they really want, but knowing the other has the potential to help them acquire it. When Caitlyn speaks again to the warden(?), he reveals that Vi is habitually tortured due to her outbursts and hostile demeanor, which may point toward her being uncontrollable and violent, but also signals to Caitlyn that the attitude she received during their conversation was justified, and casts doubt on her presumptions of good and evil in this case. Reflecting on this self-doubt and distancing between her and those around her is what leads Caitlyn to conceal the details of her progress in the investigation from Jace and Marcus later in the episode, and instead take the leap of faith to trust in Vi to a limited extent to serve as her guide as she explores this Silco angle. Maybe this is all super obvious to the EFAP audience but I really like how there's so much being communicated in a relatively short sequence with very tight lines of dialogue to cut right to the core of the narrative conflict with clear attention given to character motivation and consistency. Oh, sorry, what I meant to say was "it was super convenient how it all just worked out and everybody trusted each other for nough reason."

Good step by step description of Caitlyn's POV. Caitlyn begins to question Vi under the assumption that Vi had silenced the witness she came to question. She asks some questions then leaves after not getting the answers she wants, prompting Vi to bring up Silco. Doomer misses this point which probably lead to him misunderstanding most of the interactions afterwards. If he just tried to understand to understand the point EFAP was making (that Caitlyn believed Vi to be a suspect, not some random prisoner) he could have made himself look better and come to a better understanding of the show. I would guess that the reason he got so defensive in the first place was because he recalled the river scene between Jinx and Silco correctly.

Just listening to this again it's crazy that Doomer is arguing that Katelyn should never talk to Vi in the first place. If you're investigating a potential conspiracy and one of your suspects get beaten to the point of not being able to talk, why would you not talk to the person who beat your suspect up? If anything that person could be part of the conspiracy who was hired to keep your suspect quiet, you have every reason to talk to that person.
