@LoveFlatfootin17 жыл бұрын
I wonder if the sound might not be exactly sync'd to the video.
@jimm63867 жыл бұрын
Yes, that was a common problem - not because of mis-synching but because Dion and the Belmonts were not actually singing - they were lip singing, trying to match what they did in the recording studio to a live performance - and that, if you've ever tried to do it, is not easy. At Dick Clark's Saturday Night show, there were no back up bands so a true live performance was just not in the cards. And yea, love those audience shots here. Note the girls had on the high school uniforms. All chewing gum. The sponsor you know.

@MrStillwind9 жыл бұрын
Donald Hall Copy that!
@fluffy19319 жыл бұрын
Donald Hall lol, 'greatest era' in american music also missed the black musicians. And lets not forget the 'payola' scandals that clearly illustrated of where the money went and why records sold. In testimony before a US House subcommittee 'extensive investigation' into Payola 1959-60' -Clark testified that the only reason he had gotten involved with those record businesses were for the tax advantages. He admitted a $125 investment in Jamie records returned a profit of $11,900 and of the 163 songs he had rights to, 143 were given to him. American Bandstand did not have black artist on the show prior to 1960'. In fact, the first black artist to appear was Chubby Checker whose label (Cameo-Parkway) Clark had a stake in as well. Similar to the account of “Sixteen Candles,” Clark played “The Twist” week after week, helping it to soar on the charts, all the time receiving kickbacks from the label.hav a nice day.
@MrStillwind9 жыл бұрын
fluffy1931 It wasn't a perfect world then and its not now. It was the birth of R&R and anybody would be crazy to not mention the black artists. They were great and made a major contribution to R&R. Fats domino, Jackie, Wilson, Sam Cook just to name a few. It was also a time of innocents where we dance in the school gyms, and anywhere else, where we drove our parents crazy. That's what I'm talking about. Peace.
@AugustasKunc9 жыл бұрын
Robert Last You cant say that it was the greatest era in american music, what about after rock and roll, when hard rock was the most popular ? And nowadays music is good too, if you dont look at pop, because EDM is on the wave now and there are really great producers.

I remember this song - it got me into trouble !!!! Between my 7th. to 8th grade, about '57-'58, from elementary school to junior high I spent much of the summer,every Friday night, learnig how to dance on the front porch of a neighbor's home. The girl across the street taught me us how to dance. It was fun.... I was really prepared at the first "sock hop' in junior high. It was called a sock hop because we had to take off our shoes before entering the gym. I was dancing the newest step when a teacher, Mr. Pitts, grabbed me on the shoulder and said: "BOY - YOUR OTTA HERE !!!!!' He kicked me out of the gym, accusing me of doing the "Dirty Bop". That is when you move your feet and body at the same time - it was later called the "Twist" and became popular. Well, I received a lot of attention and over a dozen class mates followed me out of the gym wanting to learn this new dance. Looking back, it was an age of innocence and simplicity, which may never return.

Grant Freeman: Don't despair. If you read the comments you'll find that _many_ millennials appreciate this music and speak with regret about not having been part of Dion's era. Young music lovers get a bum rap. They are as capable of enjoying old-time rock 'n roll as anyone. Great tunes aren't limited to the era of their origin.

I lived it. We had the music, cars, and the girls were girls...Not trying to recapture my youth but just enjoy a 50' or 60's CD and cruising in my Vette...During the late 50's and 60's I drove Chevy convertibles and hardtops, most 3 or 4 peed V8's...I even gave my girlfriend (wife) a '57 Ford with a police interceptor engine, that Fairlane 500 would honk....Reading the comments here brought back a lot of memories, thanks.

The new generation needs more music like this. Back when people actually sang, notes were hit effortlessly, and no one needed to scream to sound good.

Hey you try and scream as you call it with tone it is not easy to tell you the truth they have higher singing ability than any of these guys could dream of
@the_monstah63782 жыл бұрын
@@johnscanlon2598 I am a singer myself, I know that it does take skill, I’m not stupid. But just because it takes skill does not mean that it sounds good. Singers nowadays are so obsessed with how high they can get and how many notes they can fit in between that they’ve completely forgotten how to make good sounding music. I’m not discrediting the skill that it takes to achieve such notes. I’m saying that it’s completely unnecessary and in often times, takes away from the music instead of adding to it.

Until watching this video at least 50 times in the past month.. my favorite Doo Wop songs WERE.. Blue Moon by the Marcels and Little Darling by The Diamonds.. Not anymore.. this song is just perfection.. the harmony along with the Bass vocals plus Dion's charisma are just incredible.. I would have loved to have been 17 through about 30 years old back in the late 50's early 60's.. the Music/Clothes/Hairstyles and Cars make this the best time to be young and alive!!
