I just bought this game and learned few things from this video. Here are some for those that just started like me: 1. Always aim for perfect tiles, even though sometimes not progressing with the quest. Each perfect tile gives 1 tile back (I actually didn't know earlier) 2. Not closing any group of trees, houses, or those yellow things. Closing groups sometimes give additional 5 tiles (if there is the flag), but not worth the group to give up 3. Not trying too hard to complete the quest with exact number of objects. Reason being is usually we don't have more than one group of each object (unless later in the game when it progresses) 4. Not worrying too much about water or train tracks. Most of the time the water tower saves the game. Again, aim for perfect tiles instead of planning the exact tracks 5. Keep calm even though you only have 1 tile left xD Anyway, truly great video! Learned a lot from your gameplay. Hopefully can increase my high score from only 22k Edit: came back with now 35k points

I was on a 1 tile streak at 30,000 on my like 10th or so play through (My best yet) and I think I went about 20 or 30 placements on a single tile before I completed a streak of quests and logged out with 13 tiles! I think I've bounced back!!!!!

These videos are a true dichotomy; I find them incredibly interesting as i follow along with your decisionmaking and marvel and your skill, and I'm always so nervous when you're down to one or two pieces left - but they're at the same time also soooo relaxing it makes me fall asleep. I don't WANT to fall asleep, I'm enthralled, I want to watch! But... so relaxing... 🥱 Great video! Looking forward ti WATCHING part two (and not sleeping to it 😡)!

Wow, just came to watch this video after reaching my personal record of a little over 30,000 points. Very interesting to see how many holes you leave open everywhere and how you don't hesitate to build very far away with railroads. Those perfect squares really do seem to matter even more than I thought :D

That tile at 3:00:02 hurt my soul a bit. Here's an available quest completion that will also set some perfect tiles by slotting in a tile that has all 6 sides perfect and I've been waiting to see used for like 2 hours now, let's dump it down here instead.
@gpa

Sorry to disappoint :) If you're referring to that small water group with +1, the bottom edge was actually plains which is why that tile didn't fit in well. I remember it annoyed me as well trying to close the group off!

It's actually eye-opening for me to see that you have low tiles most of the time - I didn't really expect a high-scoring game to be played on the edge (at least at the beginning, pre-30K). Ice cold survival nerves there.

Yeah it's definitely on the edge for the first 100k or so, however if perfect tile placements have been prioritised then there are always options to keep your game going. Thanks for your comment 😀

@@gpa Totally! I managed to cross 100K mark and still going with relatively healthy amount of tiles. Agree with prioritizing perfects, I survived with 1 tiles many times just because I can always find another perfect spot. I hope to see you in the first page of leaderboards soon! 😜

Well this is cool! I'm watching this at 2x to see what I can pick up. I find I can land games between 35k-75k so far and have been stuck in that range. Already learning a lot from this video - especially taking note of how much you let things sprawl outwards in the beginning. I've typically kept things tight and more clumped together. Thanks for sharing!

It's so interesting how much effort you put in to setting up perfects. Really seems to pay off when you're low on tiles. Definitely something I will try to put more focus on. Thanks for posting this, I've really learned a lot by watching!

I generally peter out around 22,000 points. What got me was seeing you drop down to just a single tile, and somehow pulling away from that. I do feel this could have used at least a little voice over to explain your thinking. I generally think it's best to add narration in post-processing, but that might have been tough when you can't remember why you made a particular move in a multi-hour game.
@gpa
@gpa 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Gus, Thanks for your comment. I had considered doing some voice over many times for this game but you're right, it does make it hard to think back, and if I did it while playing I'm sure a greater percentage of viewers would fall asleep because of my low (and apparently calming) voice 😅

At 48:15 they shut down a challenge. I'm curious about the logic for this. Is it better to aim for perfects than attempt to try and satisfy a "non +" challenge? Also, was it complicated by the possibly neighboring farms that might cause grief?

Hi Anna, thanks for your comments. Yes, it can definitely be a tricky game to master and unfortunately it can be a bit touch and go for the first 100k+, but if you persist and you find the right balance between getting perfects and completing quests, you should be able to improve your game. If you’re interested, have a look through the comments of the hints and tips video I made. One guy wrote out a detailed summary of the strategy needed to get a high score. Hopefully that helps.

@@gpa ive talked with experienced players about strategy all week and my game didn't improve. all it did is that the game got more stressful and frustrating to play. it seems so simple to get past 20k, childsplay, but Its beyond my ability. best i can do is ... not play it. when game makes me angry and sad and stops being fun, there's no reason to play it anymore.
