The history of the double stack 1911 (AKA the 2011) goes back to the late 1980's. From this innovation to the 1911 platform came the race gun, which has gone on to dominate the competition shooting world.

@23:03 This is why I am excited about the Dan Wesson DWX. There's a lot wrong with how they've come to market, but there's so much potential for a gun that combines the best of CZ and 1911.

I built my double stack 1911 off a Para frame because that had the highest capacity options for .45ACP (15+1 standard with the later Remington R1 mags and 18+1 with Taylor Freelance extensions). Also the more traditional all metal 1911 with removable grips let me clone Duke Nukem’s 1911 complete with nuke symbol imitation pearl grips. I love it. And yeah, the fact that the double stack 1911 frame is compatible with so many standard parts was very nice. I mostly used Wilson Combat parts and took the slide assembly off my Sig 1911 Tacops. Only a few parts were proprietary.

I didn't even know I could do this but now I'm very interested how'd you start your build
@gameragodzilla
@gameragodzilla 3 ай бұрын
@@ugo445 Admittedly, I had a gunsmith build it for me so I didn’t do anything but gather the parts and decide what specs I wanted. But I started by buying a stripped Para frame on Gunbroker, buying the proprietary parts where I could source them, a Kart NM barrel, the slide off my Sig 1911, and Wilson Combat parts for everything else. Then I have them all to my gunsmith to build into a complete gun for me. Magazines were most difficult to source since the Remington R1 mags aren’t made anymore, and I made do with other mags that had some issues. However, I was lucky enough to find someone selling a bunch of those mags for cheap, so I bought up as many as I could store. These mags have the capacity I want and run perfectly. With 35 of them in total, I’m set for life.

The CZ75b changed the 1911 game. Some of the best race/comp pistols ever made are based on it. Seems like you guys just didn't realize that the 75 was basically a double stack 9mm refined 1911.
@gameragodzilla
@gameragodzilla 11 ай бұрын
Well the CZ was heavily inspired (albeit not a clone) of the Browning Hi-Power which itself was worked on by John Moses Browning. And the Hi-Power was basically the basic action and shape of a 1911 modified to have a double stack magazine in 9mm.

Would have never guessed 40% of his pistols get shipped to Asia. I'm curious as to what countries because other than Thailand and the Phillipines most asian countries to my knowledge don't allow private gun ownership unless those two countries account for that 40%. I'd also imagine that in Asia where guns are allowed having some ultra tricked out hand fit custom gun built by Texans is probably a total "flex on the poors" status symbol. Great video and with the popularity of 2011s increasing an origin story was definitely interesting.

Seems like the next logical step is improving the optics so the become "smart". From there next gen ammo that has more consistent performance, better performance from pistol length barrels and higher capacity. At some point the transition will be to coilguns and other non gun powder systems of launching slugs.

You guys left out a lot of the history. What we call 2011 had several examples in the 2000 to 2005. BuL The Transmark Israeli company . Made double stack 9mm, 38 super and 45acp Guns for STI, Springfield and Kimber , Charles Daly. They all brought frames from Transmark. BUL Jet ported slides and barrels . Long before anyone ever tried it.

His comments about how the 2011 concept came out of the desire for more capacity and only went to 9mm later for even more capacity over .45 has me thinking. Would a change to an even smaller diameter caliber become popular in the future of competition? Something like .30 super carry fits that concept of smaller diameter so more rounds in the same length magazine. If not .30 super carry what would another caliber have to be able to do to unseat 9mm as the preferred for competition?

I always wondered if 5.7 was made competition legal if everyone would switch to that. Frankly, the calibers used in competition feel more like arbitrary competition rules rather than being necessarily based on anything logical. If we’re only shooting paper, then any size caliber will do. If we’re separating by power factor, then “more powerful” rounds should be allowed to shoot less rounds on target before moving on. As of right now, there’s no point in shooting anything other than the minimum requirements for both Minor and Major, and in both of them, the calibers chosen feel arbitrary.

So why hasn't anyone made a grip module that can handle Beretta, CZ, SIG etc mags? The original doublestack 45 mags (and width) are a waste especially with the fact that you can get a CZ P09/P10F mag that fits 19rds in the same length as a 17 Rd finicky $$$ 2011 mag? It's because those 2011 mags narrow down to single stack at the very top but all you need is a slight beveled relief cut in the 2011 frame (and maybe modified slide stop) to accommodate the superior mags DESIGNED for 9mm from the start. Cost, reliability, capacity and availability of the established mags are far superior to the $100+ 2011 mags. The Dan Wesson DWX & 3011 have shown that it is definitely possible and in my opinion superior.

To straighten up something said here.. you do administrative reloads when making clear transitions in space.. no different then in competition.. outside that everything is a locked reload.. so that aspect you are way off base and reality there.. the difference is concealment and cover which you’re always using as well as working as a team you simply reposition your stack or position while reloading and you work as a team.. it’s so vastly different then competitive shooting and tbh here you really can’t compare any aspects of that at all.. In service not having a positive slide lock is a huge issue.. then it’s click instead of bang.. then you go into tap rack.. costing you even more time and now it’s a life and death situation where other people are shooting back.. Positive lock on empty is a pretty big deal in combat. With all the noise and adrenaline you can feel a lock most times.. what you can’t is feel a bolt dropping on an empty mag and chamber.. a good lock up is 100% a must for combative arms if any sort..

Where would you put the Revised Smith and Wesson csx? It's not really a 1911 or a 2011. It's very close to a sig 938 but it's a double stack. It is kind of a micro 2011 with a single action glock trigger. 😂

@@1911syndicate I would really like to see what you think because know in the beginning there were alot of issues. I recently picked up the csx range pack and find it phenomenal. It is a pretty soft recoiling micro 9 with 12rd capacity, full ambi 1911 controls. Aside from the grip safty. The trigger is a bit odd and only time will tell but as is I haven't had a single issue. It is light, it carries well, it shoots straight, hasn't malfunctioned a single time. I have to say for a $450 pistol I'm highly impressed
