Double Strand Double Start Cast On

This is a decorative cast on that makes a really lovely edge. You can work it with either a single strand or a double strand (as shown here) over the thumb. The double strand makes a bolder decorative edge than the single strand version.

Thank you for the vid. Is there such a thing ast double strand cast off? I guess what I want to know if a decrative edge is needed for the cast off? I like the look of the edge when casting on. Thnx! Miriam Felton

I don't know specifically of a double stranded cast off (at least one that would look the same as this), but if you figure one out, let me know!

I have a pattern by RedHeart that has me cast on with two strand held together for 131 stitches. Is this they type of cast on they mean? It's the Fans & Cables pattern. Your directions were amazingly clear.

They might just want you to have a thicker cast-on edge. This is a very specific decorative cast on, so they probably don't mean this.

Thank you for this video! I have two questions: Do you leave the slip knot on the needle or take it off? And, what do you do with the double yarn that remains after you've finished casting on your stitches? There is still a bit of a loop that I'm not sure what to do with.

+Kelly Wallraff The slip knot becomes the first stitch (or first set of stitches depending on how you're using the cast on)The double yarn should be woven back in as a tail end.

Thank you so much for this video. This is exactly what I was looking for. We do not start knitting like that in France, and I bought a model that was conceived in Germany and sold in France and the explanation in the booklet was to hard to understand and the photos were of bad quality (in B&W!).

so do the double strand stitches count as 2 or one stitch? this is what i am confused about

It can be used both ways depending on what you're going for. If you're using the same yarn for the cast on as you are for the rest of the piece, then you should use the clustering stitches individually, not together. But you can use a yarn that's smaller for the cast on and then a larger yarn for the rest of the piece and use the stitches clustered.
