There are so many KZfaq clips on double tonguing, but this one's by far the best and clearest. Thanks, Derek.

I only recently realized that it is the double tongue that gave Boots Randolph that distinctive Yakity Sax sound.

Interesting. I prefer a "da ga" than "ta ka" for a softer articulation.

Hey Derek, going through the double tonguing stuff on alto and I'm finding the pitch to move around like crazy once I'm in the palm keys. Will this simply improve with time? Thanks for the great videos!

can i add a third sound in the pattern for triplet/like affects such as tacara or even another part of my mouth to do quadriplets? eg. takavapa takavapa takavapa takavapa takavapa using different parts of my mouth?
@chinacat3818
@chinacat3818 6 жыл бұрын
That's called triple tongueing, you just add a tuh at the end. Tuh-kuh-tuh

Hey, man. What's your mpc and reed setup? I've found that this style works much better with a big opening (about .120 for me) and moderate reeds (3 Legere signature's work amazingly for me.) I know it's more the player, but I've found setup definitely gives an advantage in this style.

Hey Cameron, funny you should ask. I use a very similar setup! I also use Legere 3 reeds. (I've mainly used their standard cut in the past, but I might be switching now to the signatures. Great reed!). My mouthpiece is an SR Tech Pro, which I believe has a .108 opening. So not as open as yours, but still a fair amount. Thanks for asking. Take care!

I'm not too sure about the signatures any more. The tips are too thin. Mine's split in two places already from hard use for just a couple days.. Though they do work a bit better than the studios. The studio's will take a beating.

***** I'm still experimenting with the Signatures right now, but I haven't had any issues with splitting at all. And as you can maybe tell, I do a LOT of slap tonguing, which is probably the biggest beating you can give a reed. Do you do a lot of slap tonguing? Or when did you notice it crack?

Yeah, i do alot of slap tounging. It was a day or to after i got it. I sent legere an e-mail. It was probably just a bad reed.
