In this video, I go through the process of replacing a hydro pump on a zero turn mower. This is a big job and requires the entire hydro system to be cleaned on both sides as well a purging the wheel motors.

I watched one of your videos a few years back on rebuilding the hydro trans on a John Deere L130. It was a very helpful vid and I appreciated it. I'm thinking of buying a residential exmark, made by toro and quite similar to what you have here. I'm trying to get ahead of the game and see what it takes to keep one mowing. money and time in the long run. We all get frustrated with mechanical problems but deep down it's still what we do best and have fun at the same time.. good to see it up and running again. Good video with lots for information.. check you around mate on another video

Thanks......We use old Lesco floating deck machines. After a zillion years of use one may have a hydro drive issue as of this week. These are walk behind machines so easier to reach everything.....even with that, your video makes it look like we will have our hands full. Thanks for all the detail and thought.

Man Bob that was a big job. Sorry that happened to you on my exmark each side has its own hydro pump and motor built as one unit with its own reservoir and filter. Glad you got it fixed up and running. Stay Safe. Stay Healthy!

I've done what your doing, and it's no fun what so ever, I have since found a young kid who does the transmissions on these things, and send all my hydro repairs to him lol.... And he sends easy stuff to me, it's a great relationship.... LMAO

Ive got a Toro zero for nearly six years and has run pretty well; I've only had to chand a pull and each of the belts (drive and PTO). I've never bought any crows foot, would a socket on your impact worked?

I got lucky when my Scag turf tiger Hydro pump bearing exploded. Caught it in time. Usually the metal shavings wipe out all motors and the other pump. A rebuild and complete flush, twice and new filter. One day time and $300 in parts. Could of been thousands.

I have had zero luck with HydroGear drives, I just bought a new mower with Parker Drives.

i have never had any problems out of any HydroGear drives my toro zero turn has them and its been good for 14 years of use No belt changes either to it and my other straight drive craftsman GT has one and it has a filter and a bunch of hoses it was made to last

Hello,..Great video.. I have a Toro commercial zero turn with 110-4150 Hydro Pumps however they turn okay but I do have like a squeaky noise when I do turn if possible could you tell me what the issue could be?

When did cutting the grass get so complicated? You are fortunate Bob, that you're capable of doing the repairs yourself, I can't even imagine what a dealer would charge for that repair and I'm sure they would not be as thorough. I'll keep my 35 year old Skag walk-behind...all mechanical, no hydraulics, for sure.

To bad only one tank and to bad not a very good filtration system for the hydraulics. But I guess that way they can sell more parts and machines. I don't know if they are all like that or not but seems like it is not well engineered to me. Thanks for the video. That looked like a lot of work to me.

I have a question I have a toro z master 400 commercial it will run great for half hour or so then the left side don't want to turn it makes a noise I changed the filter and fluid to spec didn't really make a difference

Seems like the filter would have done a better job. Do you think the disintegrated pieces from the pump that failed crossed over to the other side? My Z400 filters the supply from the tank.

Hey! Not sure if you will see this, but you seem very knowledgeable in the mechanics of this particular tractor. I have z500 Zmaster commercial lawn mower and my left side has lost a lot of power but it still works ( backwards is almost nonexistent -forward is decent) can still control the tractor. Does this sound like a pump issue, adjustment issue? My hydraulic pump has a fan in front and I have a seller who has the same model toro but the hydraulic does not have a fan in front. Do you think these could be compatible - my hydraulic is 116-2445 and his is 103-2675. They are almost identical except for the fan in front of mine, do you think I can exchange the two? Or do you think there is alternative method that could help boost power on the left side?

I have the same machine. My pumps have no numbers or labels. Did yours have labels? I'm unsure which repair kit to purchase. The link you posted only has complete pumps for sale...that I could tell. Can you specify which kit is the correct repair kit? Great vid btw.

I have a tyre groundsmaster inside it has these round things that one goes on the shaft and one goes on the hydraulics I know that they are different and I think I have missed them up how do you tell the difference because I have no Hydraulics I had to have my hydraulic shaft repaired and I think I might have messed them up I put the transmission in twice now and I still have no hydraulics and I know that I have the problem from those things they have those little things in them like bullets they slide along a copper plate I don't know what they called

It was my understanding that, that series pump is one of the best by HydroGear, where are they in all of this. What is the model number of that pump? The low end zero turns have a pump that is not rebuildable, certainly that wasn't a low end pump or was it. What is the horse power of the motor?

Even the low end pumps are rebuild able, to a certain extent (parts may not be completely accessible). The cheapy Tuff Torx K46 hydros on many riding mowers are rebuild able. Despite the fact that they are marketed as "non serviceable." It is basically cost prohibitive to have a shop rebuild them.. Looking at $700 bucks plus for new hydro on K46. The manufacturers want you to buy another mower instead. Thus why few people ever even change oil in hydro. You have to drop and remove hydro from mower, split the case, and change oil.

Left wheel won't make a full revolution. Fluid everywhere. Pump spins. Good belt, no broken hydraulic lines .

I am working on an older version of the Z Master. I'm trying to fix up for a neighbor. I am noticing a groaning noise coming from the hydraulics when I make turns in either direction. The machine turns fine in both directions it just makes a groaning noise when you do. Not sure if the hydraulic pumps are worn out. Did try to bleed any air that might be in the system by opening the reliefs without any change. Don't see any air in the reservoir though. Will be changing the filter and hydraulic fluid next. Any thoughts/suggestions?

The groaning is normal. Put the front wheel against a tree and drive forward and see if the back wheel spins on the grass. Try both sides. If back wheels spin then hydro system is fine for right now.

What oil type of the hydraulic pump use this machine.. I think you say 10/ 30 hydraulic oil.. that is correct?

Mine uses Mobil 1 15W-50 synthetic oil or equivalent fluid..

How many hours on that machine? Do you think all the damage came from hitting the flower box? What a tedious and time consuming repair. I heard when replacing hydro pumps, that grenade, on heavy equipment. The only way they warranty the new pump. Every cylinder, motor, and hose, needs to be replaced. Expensive.
