Only a true Cajun could sing this way...I was born in Louisiana, grew up watching my grandpa mend his nets, and eating the fish he caught in his trout lines... I've never seen a performance that brought me back to my roots like this. Beautiful!

On this day in 1970 {April 29th} Doug Kershaw performed "Louisiana Man" on the ABC-TV program "The Johnny Cash Show"... Nine years earlier in 1961 Doug and his brother Rusty's original version reached #10 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart... Two covered versions made the Top 100; the Pozo-Seco Singers {#97 in 1967} and Bobbie Gentry {#100 in 1968}... In 1970 Connie Smith took it to #14 on the Country chart... R.I.P. Mr. Cash {1932 - 2003} and Rusty Kershaw {1938 - 2001}...

Love this version! I think it'd sound awesome with no band, just him with the fiddle..I'd pay a million bucks to hear it!

I met doug and his family when he was performing in Reno, NV. I was with my friend Rose Maddox (first women in the country hall of fame) We went to Doug's dressing room after the show and this man was not only the best fiddler I ever heard, but a fantastic father. His boys were with him and while we visited, he was on the floor wrestling with his boys. What an entertainer. Love his music.

i remember this on tv, had the parents watching it. Our family here in canada came from nova scotia, the original Arcadian country, and of course, they were the people that went south, and years later became the cajuns. Love Kershaw, but all that cajun swamp music is great, and for the roots of it, look to Arcadia, it is still here in canada

I saw him once at the Mule Palace in western Montana near Charlo I think it was, in late 80's about, he was opening for some other guy but I came to see Doug, there I was in the front wearing my Tom T. Hall hat and once between songs I hollered "Diggy Liggy Lo!" But he didn't sing it, one of the better concerts I've ever seen. He played all his hits and as soon as his set ended, I went home.

Ha Ha Ha , Doug is past the Prime of anything he played early. I am sad. I may be wrong, and less than informed will let me know. I was tuned to him in 1985, I loved his music. Still do. I hate musician getting older !!!!!

I first herd about Doug Kershaw in 1970 from my 8th grade speech teacher. 12 years later I was lucky enough to see him in a little club in Atlanta called Rumours, it was one of the greatest shows I have seen

That's a fiddle and you simply can't have Cajun music without a fiddle.

Correction -- Doug plays the fiddle, not the violin, and was known as one of the best Cajun fiddlers around back in the day, hence the nickname, the "Ragin Cajun". :-)

Heavy metal says a lot. With heavy metal, you can not understand lyrics. The so-called "singers" are usually screaming. Electric anything is beyond screeching noise. You would never find a fiddle player trying to play metal, unless they were delusional. This GUY is a MASTER at fiddle playing. He burns through bows like nobody's business, and normal people get it. Go back to your screaming electric guitar Idol. Leave the rest of us alone.

I'm confused. Is this what he does for a living? No offense all. This is why I'm in heavy metal. This person...well I'm worse then Simon Cowell. This guy can't sing. The fiddle playing...is questionable. Play an electric guitar. To me. This guy has ants in his pants.
