My friend from Washington is young but in a wheel chair ive seen people gp to yell at him for parking his big truck in the handicap spot. The look on peoples faces when he would swing his driver door open and throw is wheel chair out was priceless.

I'm a disabled vet and rely greatly on the handicapped parking to go anywhere these days. Too many people want to park in the "access isles" adjacent to handicapped spots, not realizing those are needed so someone can get their walker or something out of their car. If they use one of those vans with the lift for a wheelchair, then that extra space becomes even more critical. We recently had a death in our family where we had to drive over 300 miles to attend. Upon reaching the church all of the handicapped spots were either in use, or blocked by cars in one spot parking over their line so they had room to get their whatever aide they used out of their car. Not one of the spots had an additional "access isles" as outlined on the ADA website, so people were making their own. If someone had shown up with one of those vans, they would have had no place to park. Furthermore, the signage for the building was appalling. There were 5 or 6 doors facing out to the parking lot area, but no indication as to which one lead to where inside the building. After nearly a half hour of lingering outside in hopes of finding someone to help (no one came out), we ended up driving away and not being able to attend (me crying all the way). When I went on Facebook to explain/complain in hopes someone would do something to fix the situation before it happens to someone else, I got blasted because I dared to do so. "How dare I complain about the church about their ADA violations..." Also, in how churches are exempt from following ADA regulations, I should be "happy" with whatever consideration I got. My goal was never to get the church hit with ADA fines. I was simply trying to point out their building had serious access issues. But, I'm the "bad guy" you see.
