Today I am going to take you to the completely remote Ladakh region where rarely anyone travels. This is where we resume our day from Kyon Tso Twin Lakes (Chiling Tso and Ryul Tso) and then continue the journey towards Salsal La Pass.
Hanle to Salsal La Pass to Chumur route is one of the most remote and offbeat Ladakh offroad road routes that are remaining now.. Soon the 80 km of road that is offroad right now will be built too and the fun of offroading in Ladakh will end :) ..
The road conditions were really bad all throughout almost up to Chumur village. After Chumur the roads were black tarmac all the way to Charchang La Pass and Tso Moriri Lake Korzok Village further.
After Tso Moriri Lake to Sumdo Village, almost 20 km of roads were very pathetic in condition but then we got amazing roads all the way to Terido Village, Cho House homestay.
Watching this video will make you learn about the route details, distances, and road conditions of the following sections of the Changthang region:
0:00 Intro
1:54 Chiling Tso to Ryul Tso (Kyon Tso Lakes)
3:15 Hanle - Ryul Tso to Salsal La Pass
4:01 Salsal La Pass
4:48 Salsal La to Chumur Road conditions
8:08 Worst Roads - Goosebumps
10:21 Lost in so many tracks
12:23 Chumur Village & Chumar
16:01 Chumur to Charchang La
17:16 Charchang La Pass
18:36 Charchang La to Tso Moriri, Korzok
20:36 Tso Moriri Lake to Kiagar Tso Lake
21:43 Kiagar Tso to Terido Village, Cho House
If you need more details and want to read my story of these two unknown offbeat lakes of Ladakh, Lake Kyon Tso 1 (Ryul Tso Lake), Lake Kyon Tso 2 (Chiling Tso Lake) from 2013, then read this blog: discoverwithdheeraj.com/hanle...

I drove from Leh to Hanle on this route in October 2023. It took me more than 15 hours. I started my journey around 2 pm from Leh and reached hanle at around 7.30 am the next morning. We were 5 people. I was driving an Isuzu v cross 4x4. I drove on 4x2 gear. Used 4x4 gear 2 or 3 times, only to cross the obstacle. We cooked maggi at Chumur in -6°C. As we were getting close to Hanle, the temperature kept dropping. At around 4 am the temperature was -15°C without any snow around. It was an amazing experience. I would love to drive here again. I really wish that BRO doesn't build more roads here on this route. When the roads are built the humans should be educated about not littering and keeping these beautiful places safe. It breaks my heart when I see trash at such beautiful places. Be respectful towards nature.

Abhimanyu bhai, that is amazing adventure am sure.. and well 15 hours of journey and that too towards the end of the leg.. well must have been some crazy experience I can imagine. I still cannot believe you were able to find the way on this route in the middle of night.. it just bamboozles me because finding a way on this route was so difficult even in day time for us just a month before between Chumur and Hanle... unless they made the entire track clear in a month it feels so challenging... so am not sure how you figured it out in the middle of night there, bravo I will say for this kind of adventure but I am sure I cannot do it ever or will recommend anyone to do it..... simply leaves me shocking!! Thanks for sharing the note on responsible travel and I hope yes sense prevail some day in the way we travel to these remote places of LAdakh

Sir, we, the whole family are big fans of yours and getting encouragement to conquer such dangerous beautiful sceneries and environment at the young age of 67 years with my son and daughter-in-law. We are now enjoying your dangerous but eye-soothing journey of nice location and picture post card sceneries of Ladakh . We have already decided to visit Ladakh from the 4th of October this year with our SCORPION 4x4 automatic transmission. We all can drive but we are unable to manage any companion in this journey. By the way I shall request you to show at least 30 to 45 seconds of videos of live journeys on those off-roads , after that you may select fast forward mode. For this we shall have some ideas about the tactics of conquering those unforeseen dangerous roads. I think I could make you understand my intentions. Thanks a lot for patience reading. Thanks for liking my content and I am happy to know it is useful.. You will get the companions when you are on the roads to Ladakh :) I will take your suggestion to put those videos without fast forward.. just that I feel that it makes them long very much and then people do not watch long videos :( ... However, I will think of more creative ways to solve the problem you suggested in the comment.. Thank you for such a suggestion

Hi Dheeraj, your videos and blog are really informative, thanks for keeping us updated! Also, I am travelling from Delhi - Pathankot - Srinagar - Kargil - Leh - Nubra - Pangong Tso - Sarchu - Manali. 1. Can you please confirm the odd/even rules as of June for Sarchu to Manali? I belive they would've changed since 31st May and 1st June are both odd days. 2. Are there any other routes s here which are also following odd-even rules? 3. Lastly, can you suggest a good layover apot between Panging and Sarchu - I believe it'd ve risky trying to cover it in ine day, trying to evening/night driving. Apologize for too many questions, but you're the obly person who seems to be actively interacting with us. 😊

1. You are right but a day or two back due to snowfall, Manali Leh was closed so may be that shifts it but I will update the latest in a day. 2. No, only Manali Leh remain. 3. If you want to stay between Pangong and Sarchu then better go back to Leh and stay there else do it directly to Sarchu

@@discoverwithdheeraj considering the distance between Tso Moriri and Sarchu, Tso Kar is a better option yes, but is accommodation easily available there? On Google map I spotted just 2-3 camps around. I also am not sure if a group of 4-5 can just walk in and get accommodation there. The place is certainly not connected by phone or internet. How's Pang as an alternative for a night's stay? Then again, I'm not sure if I can do it as I wish, because I'm solo and I have to find 3-4 other mates before I could share a taxi! Just exploring the possibilities. After completing the Spiti circuit, I have just about 5-6 days at my disposal from June 8-14 to complete the Keylong-Leh-Tso Moriri-Manali-Chandigarh circuit and catch a train either on 14 June morning from Chandigarh, or on 15 June night from Delhi back home. So, my Ladakh trip cannot be extended beyond those dates. .

I have no clue how I missed this sir.. seems my YT Creator App notifications causing me miss many comments.. 1. Tso Kar has decent options, similar to Tso Moriri a little less upscale though. But you can find few options in budget. It seems likely you may get there because mostly the birding enthusiast visit the place. 2. Pang is all make shift tents sir, Tso Kar you will have at least some permanent strcutures. 3. Hmmm... that makes it pretty tight though and plus not having a dedicated transport may mean less flexibility.

@discoverwithdheeraj 4 ай бұрын
@boudhayan6720 So the Nidar route is not to be followed brother then.. now talking about Umling La Photi La.. well Photi La road is all paved and tarred black top on both sides.. if you check previous episodes I have shown the roads in that route.. we went from shortcut Nurbula route but came back from Photi La route.. since it was tarred it was fine.. of course gradient of photila is much steep and it felt both sides to me and nay be slight more from Umling La side.. since road was tarred, not any issue we faced, we had a bike and Innova.. so Safari can surely do if you are experienced in hill driving.. The other route you said is more like a dirt track, the one that goes from Umling La to Demchok to Fukche and also Fukche Koyul Loma from the point ahead of Chisumle.. that road is more dirt track and some places have some sand but Ecco car was able to do it few week before us

No, foreginers cannot visit Chumur and most likely you will be stopped at there before entering the village and I will say do not take the risk without written persmission at all in such sensitive close to border area. Nomads keep moving but this time we could not find anyone between Hanle to Chumur, mostly workers were there for the roads. However there were some nomads we met and came across between Chiling Tso and Ryul Tso lakes. And since there were lot of sheeps too around there, so I am sure there should be more Nomads too.

Sir can we do camping at night at chilling lake ?
@discoverwithdheeraj
@discoverwithdheeraj 2 ай бұрын
Yes, you can camp up there but make sure you do not litter, bring back everything, you are very well prepared for such camping in remote area, have enough food/drinks etc, and very very well acclimatized to sleep at 16,000 feet.

@discoverwithdheeraj 2 ай бұрын
Bhai for this route, I doubt there will be any map having coverage as they are still making the road as you saw in my video. I believe if someone has some GPX or KML file that can be loaded to a custom map or Google MyMaps, then may be it can be used. I wish I could have recorded that GPX file for it. Otherwise, I am not sure which map will help. Download the portion of google map at least whatever is available it will help you with it.

Yes, outside rental bikes from other states are only allowed to reach Leh but not allowed to do sightseeing in Ladakh to places like Nubra and Pangong Lake. You need to rent again after reaching Leh.
