Because he isn't a very good interviewer. Pretty much every question has an "or" and the camera person is absolutely terrible, like really bad, like needs a kick in the nuts bad. When inserting his "ors", he is only giving the person a choice of what he the interviewer thinks and often it is so far off what the person he is interviewing is thinking. I totally get why Tommy Lee Jones was so frustrated with him.

iamlegend128 Because I reach an industry audience, the talent is almost always pleased after having done the interview, and because the numbers grow over time. The numbers, overall, are also unusually good for actual interviews and not "celebrities do funny stuff" clips.

Exactly lol that is a shock! The interviewer need to show his face to get more views and no offense he needs STOP saying uhmm yeah uhmm uhmm chuck chuck chuck uhmmm in front of people in the film industry! ugh! It's rude. OMG look at the 2010 d/p 30 interview with James Franco!! JF wanted to throw him over the river for not listing! Any way I hope Gyllenhaal gets nominated and hopefully wins something this season!! Nightcrawler was so ausum (giggles) I saw it like about 4 times

Charlotte If what you say was true, people from the industry would stop coming at those meeting, because they gain nothing by doing this. The interviewer obviously has some good (or at least decent) feedback,because a lot of the actors keep coming back to his interviews. He might not be the perfect interviewer and he cannot satisfy everybody, but he is the only one I've found yet, who's offering opening interviews of that length with cool people from cinema (and not only actors or directors). And maybe, just maybe you should consider that Tommy lee Jones might be aging, or that the day might not have been perfect for the two of them, or maybe TLJ is just an asshole. Or maybe you're right. But then why most of those interviews are going well?

He's a product and a victim of the today's transaction based corporate owned world and souless environment where the game is fixed and young people are robbed of the opportunity to succeed in the normal humane way. People have to become like Lou in order to fit in and carve out their piece of the pie. And so they become these opportunistic sociopaths. Much like coyotes. Always hungry, always on the run, always risking, always looking out to score regardless of the price and moral/legal consequences. We live in the era of opportunity based economy. From Uber to Only Fans. Whatever works, whatever sticks. People are desperate enough to try anything in order to survive and advance forward.

affalaffaa So you don't consider all those great indie performances from Tobey or Will Smith's Performances in I am Legend, Ali, the pursuit of Happines, or Hancock (which is probably the best performance ever seen in a superhero movie besides maybe Heath Ledger's Joker) or Johnny Depp in Donnie Brasco, Ed Wood, Fear and Loathing, or Pirates of the Caribbean (regardless of your feeling on those movies, he gives a stellar performance). They might not all be giving oscar worthy stuff today (i'd argue Will isn't, Focus and Concussion) but they have legacy's that speak for themselves. i still think robert De Niro is the best actor of all time even though he has done anything groundbreaking in a while.
@affalaffaa
@affalaffaa 8 жыл бұрын
Ian Smart I think the other three are great actors when the right film comes along for them. Depp in Donnie Brasco I particularly like, but neither he nor Pacino were nominated, for that film, at the oscars that year. Smith has his moments, Ali and pursuit of Happyness are good and I could not agree with the panning that some critics gave Hancock, a film I enjoyed, but It's not an oscar award winning performance from Smith. I chose DiCaprio and Gyllenhaal for the fact, in my eyes, that they have given consistently great and varied performances in their films. The way DiCaprio hasn't got an oscar yet is borderline scandalous! Maybe his luck will change with The Revenant. All just my opinion of course.

Nightcrawler is amazing, and his performance was mesmerising. He absolutely should have been Oscar nominated. He mentions how it's a success story...... I honestly think that's such a twisted mind's view. I understand that it technically *is* a success story on some levels (since it follows Lou going from zero to financial success) but that is only an actual success story if you remove the issue of *morality* . I know that that is kind of the point, the double edged sword kind of thing about the film, and they probably get a kick out of interpreting it in a such a way because it's edgy. But I think it's seriously messed up to devalue the core issue of the whole movie - that he was a violent sociopath - and elevate above that the fact that he achieved financial success and social mobility. The moral issue, the fact that he achieved financial success through extremely disgusting sociopathic morally-devoid methods is *the* core of the movie, because morality comes first before personal financial success. It's concerningly psychopathic to even want to see the movie more as a success story as opposed to what it is: a psychopath's defiant and relentless pursuit of financial success at the cost of human life. That's not "success". It's a disturbing look into inhumanity. Anyone who isn't a psychopath should immediately know this....
@johndong7524
@johndong7524 8 ай бұрын
This movie is not about a classic success story unless you're twelve years old or not very intelligent. Rather it's s a social commentary and a reflection on the sad inhumane crony capitalist world we live in today. A world that robs young people of the legit opportunity to succeed, so in order to fit into these cruel reality they have to resort to underhanded ways, act like souless sociopathic opportunists, and eventually turn into someone like Loue - an amoral, unethical scavenger willing to do anything to succeed because society has left him no choice. Loue is a product of today's environment is the key takeaway from this movie.
@zackmac5917
@zackmac5917 8 ай бұрын
@@johndong7524 I hold to my view of Lou's morality and the immorality of his actions and how it is a sad story (not a success story unless you are in part psychopathic) But capitalism itself literally provides opportunity and brings people en masse out of poverty more so than any other system ever created. That is a fact. A historical and statistical fact. Lou is accountable for himself. Not everyone goes and does what Lou does - become a complete psychopath. Most people do not, even if they have to struggle to work their way up. Of course those who start off in worse positions, have it harder and are more likely to be more tested. But this is a question of the morality of the individual. If you don't think Lou is accountable for his actions, then no one is. Human beings are moral beings with the capacity to choose between good and evil. Most people get on with taking the opportunities that arise and create opportunities, work hard, take accountability for themselves, and create a life that is the wages of their labour. Communists don't want to take accountability for themselves - they are bitter people that blame others and the system for their own failings. I have seen it first hand with a close friend who has now become communist. He doesn't take accountability for himself and is blinded to the fact that he rejected huge opportunities in life. His whole outlook on life for many years has been tainted by socialist propaganda that killed any ambition and optimism for him to go out and do the best he can and succeed in taking all the opportunities given, to make the best for his life. He has always felt that the system is out to get him, and he is the one who has achieved the least - while everyone else who didn't think that way, put in the hard work, took accountability for themselves, and have created a good life. The requirement of hard work is no excuse to hate the system. Humans have always had to work hard for everything we have. If you're not rich enough to not work hard, then work. Take and create opportunities, they are there, and make a better life for yourself and for your children. Saying you have no opportunity here in the west, is an insult to others around the world that are in less developed nations and still in early growth, especially poor people in the few remaining communist/specialist countries, and indeed is also an insult to all people who have ever existed. Human history has always been one big struggle to rise out of poverty. And capitalism is the first system to ever achieve that en masse to an astounding degree never before seen. It's not perfect. It has many, many flaws, but it's by far the best system we have. Its not even close, not even a contest. We have put it all to the test the last century - the results are in and the facts are settled.
@johndong7524
@johndong7524 8 ай бұрын
@@zackmac5917 It is a success story from an uber-capitalist point of view. According to the movie director Loue is an uber capitalist. Because this what building capitalist fortune all about. Lying. Stealing. Cheating people. Getting ahead through underhanded means. Sabotaging and exploiting others. Corruping people around you. Historically this has always been the case. And it's not just Loue who is doing it in the movie. Nina is also doing it by corrupting her more ethical peers, as well as a nameless foreman in the beginning of the film by knowingly buying stolen property. The point of the story, as voiced by its director Dan Gillroy, is that we live in the soulless, transaction based, consumerist society devoid of affection and respect, created by the specific brand of greedy, profit above else driven, crony American capitalism, which in turn robbed young generations of people from a chance of getting ahead on the even playing field. Which in turn creates amoral unethical people like Loue who is a 100 percent sociopat, but also a direct product of his environment. This is very apparent by the way he talks. He doesn't sound like a regular person, he talks like someone reciting the corporate business vocabulary. Loue simply does things to fit in the today's world. He's not any different from the people on the top. Sure he's doing the wrong things, but what other opportunity does he have in order to elevate his status? Don't blame the player, blame the game as the saying goes. Right? You can't play with the cards you're dealt. You have to cheat to win. So yeah, while Loue is solely responsible for his actions, he also does it because he is left with no choice. There's no other way for young people like him to rise from poverty and succeed in our day and age. Also, you're wrong about communists. They worked hard and were responsible, but they were deliberately oppressed and held down. This whole idealogy was created and emerged because working classes were kept down and held back by the capitalists and noble class. They had zero opportunity to get ahead. In fact, American middle class was created because of the Communist ideas such as higher pay, the unions, and forty hours work week. If properly executed Communism can be very good and successful which is effectively demonstrated by China and Vietnam as well as the Northern European countries with their Scandinavian model of socialism. If you notice in the movie Loue is willing to work and once getting a job he actually works pretty hard, albeit resorting to dirty methods. Yet he works hard nevertheless. So yeah, it's not always about just working hard, despite capitalists brainwashing you with this idea. There are plenty of hard workers living in poverty here in America. You don't think unloading trucks or cleaning toilets is hard work? Think again, little boy. Hard work gets you nothing, but a hump on your back. Furthermore, morality is not a part of the human nature. It's not something you are born with. Morality is an invented social concept dictated by the outside factors which prompts people to do good or evil things depending on the particular circumstances they're faced with at the moment.

Mr. Poland, too often an interviewer will present the right people with the wrong questions. Thank God you don't do that.

Fantastic interview and a fantastic film. Also, the laid back( yet oddly still acting) film star shouldn't feel bad about Point Break. Bigelow rocks hard and I can say that with certainty despite not having not seen that Oscar winner one. Near Dark aka 80's Vampires With People From Aliens and Point Break aka Best Foot Chase Scene Ever both show that she knows how to kick ass. Hell I even liked her Blue Steel film back in the day. Fuck you, I was 11...

such a refreshing actor, though I'm not surprised Nightcrawler made no money; very slow movie despite its genius.

15:24- “That shoot between 4 a.m. to 7 a.m.”. Try working Amazon night shift from 2-5! 🤣 No matter: Amazing character study on “Nightcrawler”, Jake. That film gave my wife and me the creeps for a week! Excellent portrayal of a manipulative criminal sociopath. Very well played!

Im a big fan of the modern French Extreme Cinema Movement and the Asian Ultra Violence films of the early 2000s, and Nightcrawler is still one of the most subversively disgusting films I've seen. I guess when it comes to the media & cold, corporate greed that's a class of stomach churning repulsion that rises above the rest. Lol
