Our daughter who is now 40 had a second ear piercing above the normal position and keloid started to grow. Took her to the doctor and they removed it. They told her that if you are predisposed to keloids that she should not have any further piercings and to be aware of anySurgeries or cuts above the waist. Thankfully they did not reoccur but I will never forget that experience. I’m so thankful Dr. Lee could help this lady

It's a particular issue with mental health, because for so long the only source of information they had was the patient. It's a definite problem where certain classes of mental disorder result in the doctor choosing to not even bother listening, even if the patient is saying things that might be helpful in terms of identifying the problem because there's an assumption that you can't trust it. A good doctor knows that the information coming from the patient often needs verification, even with a patient that is fully in possession of their faculties.

A person doesn't live life with weird things on their ears that make them sick because they have a normal relationship with the medical system. A non-doctor can see that just by looking. It's simply that other doctors didn't want to deal with it. Just like a doctor wanted my son to get an ultra sound on what was obviously an inguinal hernia, simply because they were stalling and wouldn't refer on until it was a crisis. A private hernia surgeon took one look and operated with absolutely no need for an ultrasound because it was incredibly obvious what it was.

The scarf was such a creative way to cover up the keloids. Cosplayers tend to be resourceful like that. But it's so sad that she had to rely on that in her daily life, not just when she was performing or dressing up. Essentially, she had to 24/7 cosplay as a version of herself that didn't have this condition. Most cosplayers get to take a break. They get to take off the wig, the corset, or the prosthetics, and they get to be themselves and just breathe for a while. Jennifer didn't have that option, without revealing a condition that would lead to stares--or just as bad, intentionally looking away.

@biguncle554 she's not morbidly obese. Overweight possibly but I'd imagine it'd be hard to keep up on a daily routine or your health, especially mentally, when you have giant keloids on your ears And while yes that could be part of it. Having keloids on the ears, of that size can make you dizzy and disoriented. Your temples aren't that far from the ears. And the added weight and added blood flow can cause issues. However her weight isn't the topic at hand here and it shouldn't be discussed unless that's the topic of what's being treated. Which it's not. Her ears were what's being treated.

I too, feel a deep appreciation for the doctor and how her vocation of choice is most likely very rewarding, but is also redemptive to these people and allows them to recover some part of their self-concept. It is a ministry in that it helps people with issues that can sometimes affect their physical well-being . . . as well as the removal of unsightly abnormal growths. It's hard enough in life without having people stare or point at you. I pray that Dr. Lee, her family, her co-workers and her whole practice will be blessed from above in this coming year. I know these patients feel that she and her organization earn every cent.

They were causing legit issues with her hearing and stability. It makes me angry that the other docs wouldnt help due to her having chosen to pierce her ears...you know like most woman and many men. It shouldnt matter if someone had a hand in their issue they still deserve compassion and care. Its not like a perosn knows they are keloid prone before the trauma

Omg, I had small keloids in my ears when I was a kid. They developed after I got my ears pierced and formed around the holes. They weren't visible like this but they caused me pain and shame. I finally had to let my piercings close. I wish someone had known this info and shared it with my mom. My lobes were so messed up that my hypoallergenic studs were sinking through and almost falling out of the back of my piercings. I'm thankful after we let them close I was able to go get them pierced again by a doctor. I still have small hard knots in my lobes but they are invisible and don't hurt.
