Dr Martens 2976 Chelsea boots, having the original Airwair sole replaced with a traditional leather sole here at The Shoe Healer. We have had lots of messages asking for longer videos, this is Antony’s first attempt filming on a head cam. Even though we had issues we wanted to put this out there to hopefully get some feedback to make things better in the future. Please go easy on us 😂

Please bring the boot in whoever you are so we can all see the finished job. They do such a great job of repairing and modifying shoes and boots as well as selling 1st class footwear.

Great video as always Anthony. I really do enjoy watching the process of Shoe repair. I googled this model of DM,and they retail at £180. So calculating labour & material these custom Doc Martens are pushing the £300 mark. Definitely not for the faint hearted.

Was thinking the same about cost. Wouldn’t it just be better to buy a pair of Chelsea boots with leather sole from Loake, Cheaney, Barker etc…? DM’s are all about the airware sole unit so, if you gonna change it to leather then sorry, I don’t get it. Am I missing something?

@@chrisp3330agreed it doesn't make much sense does it? Getting a non standard DM and then replacing the sole like this... If you clearly don't want a DM this much, then get yourself a better boot for the same money!

You are absolutely right, and I did have this conversation with the customer, but he was adamant that he loved the fit of these boots. Thanks for your input 👍

Seems a strange decision to add leather soles to a Doc Marten boot. Surely the whole point of buying a DM is for the air ware sole ? The uppers are not usually premium compared to what's available elsewhere and leather soles are usually added to dress boots rather than chunky boots like this. Anyway, they say the customer is always right....

Hi Anthony and everyone at Shoe Healer. You did the conversion on my Docs about 3- 4 years ago and guess what.......still going strong! I'll be coming in soon to have a rubber sole put on to them and a quarter tip in the heel sometime soon. Also, might be in the market for a new pair of boots so will be browsing. Great to see you are still trading, hoping you are all in fine fettle. Kev.

Hello Joe, I really don't think it would be worth the effort, unless you really do love your Dm's the time it would take to hand stich a new welt on .....wow ! Thanks for your interest

Everything is doable, but unfortunately, we have lost two full-time repairers, and as much as i love doing these jobs, we are having to say no, not at the moment. The boots are iconic and must of had every conceivable conversion done. Antony
