Same, I was over it after they brought it the third autistic patient who acted the same way as Shaun. How to properly represent autism: 1) decide and stick to your character's traits (success), 2) display other autistic characters with different traits to show that not all autistic people are the same (FAILURE)
@moneyclip87722 ай бұрын

When I was 17 I was throwing up blood by the liters... I was away about an hour from my home.. I won't bore anyone about what happened that night. But my friends took me to the ER. Packed. Charging nurse was kinda of mean. Didn't think that at my age I should be throwing up blood. She asked me with attitude what does it look like. Before I could say it was black like it had coffee grinds in it. I just said like this. And threw up on her. Next thing I know... I'm in the ER and they where putting a tube down my nose onto my stomach. That really didn't go well.. my friend was 6ft 250 lbs. He tried to stay with me... It hurt and I gagged and when the tube was scratching my throat almost to my guy. I yanked it out and then I was like the exorcist. Shooting blood out of my mouth and now my nose. It went far... My friend passed out and there where only curtains separating between patients. My friend literally fell backwards and he was so big that he crashed onto my neighbor and fell on his bed which made him fall to the floor and that made the other neighbor crash to the ground... I had my stomach pumped for 3 days. I hated that. They didn't know what caused ulcers at that time. So drink mild and eat some bread and take antacids... It would be years later that some kid from I think Harvard or Princeton that found out it was caused by a virus that could be cured with antibiotics... I used to have my wife rub my back so I could throw up what was blood in my stomach..... I will always be grateful for science and doctors and nurses. A few years ago I had a massive stroke. Science and good doctors and nurses saved my life with new medicine. I would be dead now if it wasn't for good human beings that save lives. Love them all

This show is beautiful to me. I used to work with mental handicapped individuals (in homes) and I know plenty of people who face other “functional” disabilities. One thing that pisses me off is how often people with all kinds of disabilities, especially autism, are automatically assumed to be stupid or slow. Even my clients who lived in home due to their severe, non functional disabilities, they’re still such amazing people capable of a lot. They just navigate life differently than us. Likely more so than any other, Autism is a spectrum. It’s important to develop care for those who are lower functioning to improve their lives, but also important to remember not everyone with Autism (among other disorders) struggles that way and some possess incredible intelligence. It’s a major lesson to people that you should never assume someone’s capabilities based off your perceived notions of a condition.

I completely agree. When I was applying for social security disability, they made me see a shrink. He read my file and was aggressive. I told him I have severe anxiety and fear of being yelled at or judged with my ptsd and autism being triggered by raised voices. He talked to me like I was stupid the whole time with a loud stern voice. I was curled up on my chair, arms around my knees stimming. He put in the report I was well below average intelligence. The judge told me that and said it was extremely unprofessional and they aren't supposed to put opinions like that into the report since he did no tests for intelligence other than the word memory thing which I got right. Judge also said I was obviously intelligent just had mental trauma and issues. I got my disability (based 50% on mental health and 50% on having had 19 procedures on my dominant hand when all I knew was cashiering and computer work plus a chronic pain and fatigue autoimmune disorder) I was so pissed off since my intelligence is the one thing about me I was always proud of. I took the mensa test( even though I dislike IQ tests since they are inherently racist) got into mensa, made an appt with that shrink and with my bf holding my hand walked in showed him my mensa card told him I have a 159 IQ and he can take his opinion of me being below average intelligence and shove it up his ass. Then I walked out and had a break down in the car while bf drove me home since confrontation scares the hell out of me.

I kinda dislike this show, the first few episodes were good, but once he'd proved he was smarter than everyone else and they still treated him badly, it kinda felt like drama for the sake of drama 😭🙏
@halolighta2 ай бұрын
I saw someone else say the same thing, I haven't watched a lot of the show but from what Ive seen I don't think the "drama for drama" is actually just "drama for drama". People treat autism like a disease, people who have it, especially in the workplace, are treated as less than others and from what I've heard from others it gets worse the better of a job you have. To me the fact that they don't treat him better after him showing time and time again he's smart and reliable is solely to show how strong the stigma really is. No matter how smart someone is, if they have autism, people are not going to treat them as if they're smarter then themselves. So personally I think a huge part of the plot is genuinely about the stigma around autism causing people to ignore or mistreat him as a doctor.
@reberee6772 ай бұрын
I agree with halolighta on this but another point... Drama for drama is a thing that happens in reality. It's not just a TV entertainment thing. There are people that just love to hate and cause problems.

It’s a tv show ffs… it’s made up! Sounds like you’re very insecure.. you should work on that bud, but don’t mix the real world with a fictional tv show or you’ll never trust anything ever again if you watch enough tv lol

Photo is normally (at least in the UK) called Vitamin K. It’s an agent we can use for a range of reasons, normally in warfarin overdose, to bring INR (a way of describing blood thinness I suppose, in layman’s terms) to safer levels. Sometimes, I’m trauma, patients can experience something called DIC, a condition where your blood gets too thin AND you run out of clot forming cells (platelets) at the same time. It can be pretty catastrophic.

I havent seen this show, but by my guess if he was coughing up blood, maybe his left lung was punctured by a rib. He said it was trauma induced, and thathe got beat up by a patient. So i think when he got beat up, he got that really bad bruise, and i think his rib broke and punctured his lung, causing him to cough up blood and later on go into a coma. Idk if that right, its just a guess and i have no medical education since im 13, so thats just a random guess lmao. Tell me if its right i guess.
