Dr. Perricone speaks about how Alpha Lipoic Acid Works

I know this is an old video, but I wish doctors would also mention the possible side effects of taking any supplements. ALA is known to decrease glucose (one of the reasons these are prescribed to people with neuropathy caused by diabetes), decrease B1, and it affects the thyroid (so make sure you don't have thyroid issues). It goes unsaid that you should always consult with a physician prior to taking any medication/supplements. I have peripheral neuropathy and it's helping me with the pain and recovery, but I make sure I constantly check my blood to keep everything balanced. I hope this helps someone out there.

The majority of physicians, medical doctors, General practitioners know nothing or next to nothing about supplements or nutrition.
@sandywhat24293 жыл бұрын
Yes, except your general Dr wouldn't know anything about this or other suppls. Mine sure different. Anywhere you look up side effects for Lipoic Acid you'll see that low blood sugar side effect. Also it can affect those taking synthroid so I'm concerned about this. I'm having sinus pain and tinnitus taking it, I'm only on day 2.

What is the most efficient dosing for alpha lipoic acid? 200 mg, three times daily? 300 mg, two times daily? 300 mg, three times daily? I have small fiber neuropathy from a car accident.
@bellakim94043 жыл бұрын
Take ALA an empty stomach an hour before eating. The supplement is better absorbed in the body when it doesn't have to compete with food. Otherwise you're losing a large percentage of the positive effects. I use stabilized ALA in the R form.

Lots of skin care is only directed one 1-3 issues. There is literally nothing that cures it all. You need a full routine that uses several products that tackle the issues you have.

Which form of ALA is best for topical application?

Good question. I'm looking for the answer as well. The most bio available form for internal consumption is R-ALA.

@@sncnutrition7118 I think that's the brand maybe that I used to buy and my skin was gorgeous.. I also did the ascorbyl palmitate almost every day same thing with the dmaa and the ALA... and I would do about a tablespoon of cod liver oil almost every day and I needed no skin makeup at all and everybody said my skin was radiant.... I stopped doing these things and I have seen a difference . But no places near me seem to sell ascorbyl palmitate anymore.... they'll claim it's because it wasn't selling.... well they don't advertise it

@JamieYAYme3 жыл бұрын
Anything with oxidizing ingredients like vitamin c will eventually oxidize, which means you need to use your products within at least 6 months of opening. For instance, drunk elephant has a c firma serum that is famous for oxidizing FAST and turns from a yellow to orange then brown. I actually had to return some recently because I got it off eBay (eBay sellers aren't supposed to sell used stuff but this lady swears it leaked and it's new but stuff was brown)
