Listen to this my friends, porn IS NOT WORTH IT! Not worth losing a girlfriend over! Not worth being depressed for hours for just a five minute high! It will destroy your life! As someone recovering from porn addiction, I can say its absolutely wrecked my mind. I've not watched it in about a year now but everyday use for over 12 years leaves it's mark. I find it difficult to not look at women passing by and wondering what they look like naked. I wish that wasn't my first thought about people. It creeps me out! Please, if you're struggling with this, seek help. You can change your habits. It's difficult and most days I feel the urge to watch it but I can't let myself down anymore. Yeah I've met people wearing Brazzers shirts and seeing porn refernce stickers of it on a Motorbikes. Although it's very rare, i've always gotten a small giggle from seeing it but i also wondered why someone would do this. I guess it's because most ppl who don't recognize it won't look up what it means, so it only has a meaning to those who know, which also makes them 'guilty' for a lack of better word which means it probably won't have a negative impact on their lives. It's not something i would be willing to risk though, because it's implying an unhealthy relationship to pornography. I don't think of pornography as inherently bad, but it's broad availability and acceptance makes it incredibly dangerous (even more so than drugs IMO as it lacks the stigma and short term consequences)

I honestly used to think this kind of talk was nonsense. Then, after not seeing my girlfriend for a couple of weeks and using porn heavily during that time, I was unable to "perform" the next time I saw her. I was so shocked, embarrassed, and confused. I looked into it and saw similar stories from other people. Porn really does desensitize your mind to real experiences. That was the only experience I needed to never go near it again! Luckily, my girlfriend was very nice about it and made sure I didn't feel worse about it than I already did.

I don’t even care anymore. No woman wants me anyways, and there’s nothing I can do to change that. I have a shit job, I’m short, not conventionally attractive, I’m not funny, I don’t have any interesting talents or hobbies., I’m riddled with depression, I have a crippling injury that causes me near constant pain, self-doubt, and anxiety. Hell, I wouldn’t want me either - they’re right! I am unfit to be an object of affection or desire. I suppose I should be thankful I’ve managed somehow not to resent women as a consequence of my state of being. But I don’t have the power to change any of it either - I’ve spent the past seven years desperately trying to do so. I finished my degree; Ive tried worked out 3-5 days to week to improve my appearance; Ive spoken to therapist’s psychiatrists; I’ve applied to thousands of new positions and been rejected every single time; Ive pushed myself into uncomfortable social situations to try to overcome my anxiety. None of it matters. Nothing changes. I am never good enough. Never smart enough. Never “the right candidate”. I am worthless and I know it. And, clearly, so does everyone else. I’m stuck, and at 33 I don’t frankly see the point anymore. I mean, I don’t disagree with anything he’s said -porn is evil- but in a world that has so little use for men, even those of us who so desperately want to be of use, what does it even matter? No one cares about men. That war is already lost. We’re just “extra” humans. Better that we be given some great cause to die for in the fires of revolution, or on the battlefield smashing the enemies of civilization than to continue living like this. No one should have to live like this. To not have ever been at all would be preferable to having known only suffering. I know I won’t make it to 35 now. I’ve consigned myself to that. I’m trying to make peace with the knowledge of something that I’ve known since I was 14. That my death will serve no purpose. That my live will have meant nothing. That I will have no legacy. The male line of countless generations will end with me. That I’ll die having never known what it’s like to have been loved by another person. And when my death comes, it will come by my own hand.

My friend, at least you’re trying. I haven’t done anything like you mentioned and still considered suicide. But now I look at your comment and I think how stupid I was to give up without even trying. I understand that none of this worked for you to find a woman but see perhaps the fact that you undertook those measures is much more important than the goal itself. My friend keep on challenging yourself and pushing your boundaries just for the sake of doing that. Maybe a woman will come by eventually or maybe not but focus more on the process itself and improving yourself rather than getting a woman. I don’t want to push it on you but for me also belief in God helps a lot but I understand if that’s not something you want to try. Maybe we will never experience being with female, I mean I never even kissed a girl, but that doesn’t mean that life can’t be a meaningful journey.

Society would be better off if people didn't always make relationships about fucking. You can love people without finding them immediately sexually attractive, and you can experience sexual attraction out of love regardless of someone's physical appearance or bank account. Also, people should stop fixating so much on gender, why should having a penis make you the person to be the millionaire or the pirate, it might as well be someone with different genitals - why does it matter? Finally, the idea that one needs to find a single relationship that satisfies all the needs of a person is unhelpful as well. You do not have to be *everything* for someone. Just *something*.

2:38 indeed it’s difficult to choose live or just because you don’t want to deprive yourself of the hunger for intimacy or improve that your body so craves but knowing that takes much longer than the access porn has is a tough ordeal however, when you’ve had it (the real deal) it’s worth it to sustain yourself from that easy listful access because that isn’t real. It leaves a hole in you that hood intimacy wells in to fill. Porn pretends to fill it but it just ultimately does more damage and makes getting true love that actually does the job, that much harder. 2:43 However, what I’m hearing is that, longing for that special someone will make you miserable so you don’t want to numb yourself. You want to feel so miserable that you can’t help but to do something to change your situation in finding genuine love and intimacy. That’s the closest I got to what he meant in 2:37. I don’t personally agree because Jordan got with his wife in that they were childhood friends so they had held a deep connection and he pursued a deep connection with this woman later in life. I am unsure but I am glad he’s referring the literature because feeling bad, leads people to p@rn which is numbing themselves to the pain. Gabor Matte is great Psychologist who talks about this with more understanding and compassion; while I’m not saying that Peterson doesn’t but Matte seems to understand addiction more emphatically. I am at odds because Peterson had his own dealings with a drug because he was in such pain and misery; because his wife was terminally I’ll and dying. It’s understandable. And he was right in that it’s hard to deny p@rn/ some alternative because it’s easily accessible and you need relief from your suffering so you can’t just get miserable enough to motivate yourself out of addiction. ( I mean, you can but it’s not the only motivation to keep you on the straight and narrow) It might be a bit of both aspects of misery of your position and what this numbing agent is doing and what your hopes are mixes to give you that drive. Indeed, what you want, tangible hopes, a plan, etc. Essentially a transformed life built on a collection of little things that aid you in your goals and pursuits. I don’t knock Peterson for his decision; especially because it was doctor-prescribed and he was too in distress to make a rational decision so he honored his colleague’s recommendation so technically he “did everything right” but, it led him to…😬maybe stay consistent on his mantra of willing yourself out of your predicament; which for benzodiazepines, I’ve heard is really dangerous. I am glad Peterson is doing well and is consciously with us. However, I think even Peterson’s journey tells us the complexity of dealing with our misery and suffering are a multi-blended process; whether that’s a technical one where his daughter and her husband at that time saved Peterson via Russia via an Anesthesiologist with an experimental procedure that actually helped in. Crazy story but, _it worked_ . He didn’t misery himself out of his suffering. He technically did deprive himself out of the deprivation (the lack of what he was needing) to Will himself to actually search for soothing his pain but I don’t blame him for that. He’s human and is experiencing suffering. He’s not special and he needed some solutions. It doesn’t conflict with this message but adds onto it because it may well work for millions of people to Will themselves out of their misery, by misery. I don’t mean to make any claims about him, with the same compassion I think Gabor Matte says about his clients who use substances, they are in pain and wanted that pain to stop and Peterson’s condition was , for the most part, no different than others; despite the technicalities. Im glad his wife is much better and im glad he is better. There is multiple ways of engaging with your suffering, I’d say and at this time, I believe he was just rightfully so, following the data to a thorough conclusion. Ultimately, people do need hope and ironically they’re getting it with their feelings heard by Peterson. Maybe they’ll be following his advice but moreso, they get that fatherly intimacy via advice & encouragement from Jordan to hold out until they find that significant other. Also, get a sleep routine. Pursue a workout plan. Aim for a competitive career because you’ll need to provide for a potential family and be competitive in your personality, be a little selfish and have some grit and tenacity with your life. No one’s gonna give it to you if you won’t ask. You’ve gotta pursue and ask for what you want and have some character to make yourself attractive and impressive in the dating market. Even rabbits get at it; and they’re a prey animal.

I stopped watching porn and I turned into a repressed angry person with wet dreams all the time. Stopping pornography and masturbtion is absolutely not a magic pill. It can be tremendously beneficial for the right person at the right time. Psychological issues exist in us all from decisions we made during childhood. Getting well is much more difficult than suppressing your lust. In fact I would say consciousness of what you’re after in the pornography is the key to solving the underlying issue and finding a solution, not suppressing the instincts in yourself that drive you toward it in the first place. I made this rule with myself a long time ago that if I watch porn I need to be a little bit more conscious about it than the last time I did it. This was far more beneficial to me than shaming myself for liking sexy women and suppressing my sexuality.

This is a very wise and inspiring response. I'm saddened by the ways that I see young men like myself trying to quit porn and masturbation. We feel powerless and desire control over our minds and bodies. In our frustration, we attempt to gain control by suppressing our lust and rejecting things that threaten to weaken our resolve. Porn becomes a scapegoat and shame becomes the motivator. I believe the consciousness and self-compassion that you describe are the key to feeling happy and healthy with our sexuality. I actually do feel proud of my ability to watch porn and enjoy it in a way that doesn't feel toxic for myself or for my female partner of 3 years. I don't think I would wear a t-shirt announcing it as Peterson jokingly suggests, but I feel that it is definitely possible to watch porn while loving yourself and all other humans at the same time. He’s right about masturbation not being something people are proud of, but I would counter with : eating is not something people are proud of, either. No one wears a shirt that says “I eat every day” or “I have sex with my loving wife every day.” These things are not meant to be shining accomplishments, they’re just part of life. They are things we do to sustain our existence. Not every part of life is something spectacular that needs to be some shining accomplishment.

You know what's funny is how we're completely okay with leaving the women behind when it comes to this matter. Men see pornography as bad and i think that's a good judgement, but we're lying to ourselves if we think women don't struggle with this too. I'm grateful that the men make time and space for this serious conversation, but women are totally in the shadows it seems when this matter is brought up, which is unfortunate for them. I mean it doesn't seem apparent to me that anybody is caring enough to ask how this is effecting women as they do with caring enough to ask this in regards to us men.

did anybody understand his point when he said that " it's so difficult to do that you don't want to deprive yourself of any of the deprivation that might motivate you to do it " and by "it" he means the long-term good relationships and so on, in my understanding which I think it withholds since I think that the second use of deprivation is what he refers to porn and the first on it the actual meaning of the deprivation. Furthermore, I think that the reason why porn is a deprivation is that it prevents you from accomplishing whatever and so on, but again that depends on the personal use of pornography and so on, secondly, let's say that porn is bad in this case which I think it is true for some people that maybe have some traumatic experiences when growing from childhood and so on, so that it stays the in the unconscious as a repressed idea and that what creates the issue. But let not deviate from the actual meaning he meant, again I have a problem understanding the layering of the word deprive(prevent), because logically when you use a double negation you end up with the primitive meaning of the word in this case (deprivation), meaning that eventually the correct way of saying it might be: "It's so difficult to do that so you deprive yourself of the motivation to do it " which here again "it" refer to the long term relationship, and you notice that it is much easier to understand, that porn is a way that takes away that motivation to create good long relationships. Meaning that he intentionally created this overlaying of words to deceive the audience or make the statement look much more complex which it isn't. Again I am not saying that porn is not bad, but, but in a very specific narrow window, it isn't.

It is absolutely not saving you. The same powers that make society tough for regular men are also responsible for the porn industry. It's another way to stop men from prospering, having successful relationships, producing offspring that carry the same virtues. Even if you are unsuccessful with women, porn deprives you the opportunity to believe you can do better. It promotes instant gratification, promiscuity, and has a high dopamine response, therefore becomes habitual. In a society which wants the 'individual' to indulge in every possible pleasure, it will bring misery and lead to an increasing culture of hopelessness. i.e. If I can't even do/achieve X, why should I bother with X. Let's just indulge..

As someone who is moderately successful with women, I can say when you don't have a girlfriend and you're single looking for one, it can be extremely distracting to be constantly horny all the time. I've tried nofap for a month in November, and the end result is just me being really horny and anxious. I agree that masterbation is a second rate solution (it will never replace sex), but as long as doing it doesnt inhibit your drive to find a partner (I still flirt with people I find attractive). I agree with Peterson in everything he said. It's such a suboptimal solution, and it will never be anything anyone brags about. It shouldn't be because youre not doing anything. In fact its just time out of your day. Theres something to be said though for horniness being a distraction in your day to day life though.

No woman can measure up against the perfect fantasies you make up in your head, the variety of women in porn, or know exactly what to do to you. So you end up being disappointed with your partner. As my urologist joked once with regards to your partner, you've seen that movie many times over.

You said, 'Porn is a suboptimal solution.' Well, it's a solution, nonetheless. Men can't force women to find them attractive, and the majority of women today are superficial and fickle, and not worth the effort they demand. Men, think for yourselves and decide what you will do. I have decided that in pursuit of wealth and knowledge, I will not compromise time and mental energy just for momentary sexual satisfaction (which is all I need from a woman, if I was to have one)
@michaelegan3522
@michaelegan3522 9 ай бұрын
Sure you can't force people to find you attractive, but there are plenty of ways to make yourself more attractive. Getting in shape, basic hygiene, and making an effort to improve social skills will make all the difference. Confidence and the ability to talk to women and be interesting will get you a long way even if you don't look like Brad Pitt. I think a lot of guys (even just in this comment section) are blaming their problems on women and society at large while not looking at themselves hard enough. If someone is overweight, terminally online, and unemployed but still thinks it's society's problem that they can't get a gf then that person is delusional. Making an effort to improve our situations is going to help a lot more than making excuses. It'll certainly help a lot more than jerking it to pixels on a screen.

Very well said. People who struggle with porn usually have an issue with intimacy. Porn also objectifies women, which is a problem, women aren’t sex objects that’s soul purpose is to please men sexually. Women are people. Porn is also a dangerous lie, nothing good has ever came from deception. Now people who struggle there’s hope, we were made for better things, higher things. A deep intimacy with your spouse is possible, you just have to put away the fear and plaything of porn away and focus on loving the other person selflessly. It’s difficult but worth it, absolutely worth it

The problem I have with these types of arguments is that it always assumes that people who enjoy porn are exclusively sore losers. It would be more accurate to equate intimacy problems to the act of masturbation. Why? It's on demand without the industry Point being that people of all ages and creeds digest pornography, winners and losers alike. Winners might lack an intimacy drive. Stuff like Howard Stern, people who use sexuality as a form of discussion and entertainment. People who like discussing wild stuff like two girls one cup. And furthermore, what is the intimacy concern for people who are about that^ sort of creative expression? When I read these sorts of comments, I always wonder if it's just part of your personality. Do you get on your soapbox around coworkers telling them not to call women bitches or who sleep around. Do you insist that they need to be more sensitive and whether they are abusing women throughout their relationship? See, it's easy to paint a target that doesn't move. I mean you can mock me for having an interest in porn. I've engaged in it both in and out of relationships. And would you look at that, I was considerate of my partner's feelings when I decided not to use her as a means to an end. Whether she was out of town or in the same room, I was going to respect that we are two different people with different libidos that can't just be rectified with a conversation. Sometimes I want to be by myself. Willing myself to be open to some sort of overlap isn't going to negate that I might not want to get enmeshed deterministically with every single woman I'm dating I think people like you are simply advocating monogamy for posterity. Jordan included. You want to be assured that the paradigm is working so you demonize all forms of dissent. If we're not all miserable as we push the same yoke, there's no confidence. Although I would never look to you as a paragon anyway. I think someone who claims to be some kind of expert has a conceited world view Yes let's all sit at your round table as you tell us how true your love is. Like we won't find any cobwebs over at your place

Hard to see it as depriving you of something you never found interesting in the first place. Can honestly say growing up the desire for relationships with either sex never manifested, and I grew up pre-Internet widespread availability. I was a teenager before I got my first Internet connection. I always told myself growing up I'd understand the romantic interests depicted in media one day, but that switch never flipped. I can however trace back my porn interests to a very young age, before I even understood what that fascination was. Maybe I'm broken/damaged on some level, nevertheless denying porn isn't going to activate some suppressed interest that never manifested in the first place. There would just be no outlet and a lot of pent up frustration. The absolute state of modern gender relations is hardly an incentive to try to forcefully explore that direction either.

Does p0rn use really prevent men from developing relationships? Or is it a case where men turned to p0rn because they tried again and again in dating, with all sorts of women and all sorts of approaches, and got absolutely nowhere?
@rych7852
@rych7852 9 ай бұрын
Not really. The P&rn is a coping mechanism in those situations. But what P does is reinforces bad chemical pathways in your brain (which is essentially plastic -ref Huberman) So you get the dopamine hit from hitting the meat. But what you really need is to remove that source for your dopamine and get your hit from other activities. Whether that's your hobbies or indeed talking to women. NoFAp is NOT easy. most people experience a relapse several times. But over time it has a psychological effect on how you view woman and relationships. If you get a hit of dopamine from approaching a woman and having a conversation you're more likely to pursue that in future, not just switch on "the hub" to get your female "interaction" Which we ALL know is not at all realistic! On that note, it also reduces anxiety on men about your size or indeed your performance, and also of what you find genuinely attractive in a partner since you aren't comparing yourself to these surgically changed women with perfect lighting and make up. My last GF was not in any way a model. But I liked her a lot and enjoyed spending time with her in spite of that since I wasnt comparing her to whichever pstar had gotten me off in the past
