Not only that but we are in a way getting Gem Dragon Breath Weapon, and Psionic attack options as they're adding Gem Dragons as a Dragonborne type.

I have added an extra die to it and given it a recharge of 6 and all my dragonborn players have adored it.

@@thezerowulf507 I'm just imagining the potential usefulness of the Gem Dragonborne as not only do you have the Gem Dragon Breath Weapon as a attack, but you also gain access to some Psionic attacks, but also a potential resistance, or immunity to Psionic attacks due to the one of the Gem Dragons' specialties being Psionic attacks.

Yup. Should've been this way from the very start. Many good DMs homebrewed this to allow dragon born players to have a recharging breath weapon. Then you have some that fall back on the "OMG ITS OvErPoWeReD!" despite clearly not being so. Wonder what those guys will say when this book comes out and is official D&D at that point. Course, I have seen some DMs petty enough to ban entire books, so who knows. But I don't play with such people. :)

I actually agree with his reasoning of dumping the Circle, but i have to agree with Pact of the Elder Wyrm i would love an official version.

@@clintm4186 The point is that Draconic Sorcerer covers this. A dragon can make a pact with you and give you power. Draconic Bloodline should have been a Warlock subclass originally.

I love druids, but I think they made the right choice. Ranger is often associated with monster hunting/taming so I can see a ranger specializing in dragons Druids are more spiritual, they already have a lot of elemental themed spells and are not directly associated to particular monsters, it would feel a bit redundant. Besides, the Circle of Stars offers some dragon themed features already

It's really annoying considering we have Eldritch Knights, Hexblades, and Bladesingers all coexisting in their niche with each feeling unique.

There's a problem here, and that's that making a Dragon Druid NOW would likely be vastly more powerful than the Dragon Sorcerer, which they adamantly refuse to resolve. So even if you had both, Dragon Sorc would almost certainly be effectively abandoned.

For the campaign I'm in I was able to talk my DM into extra spells known. Domain spells as it were. Going fine so far.

I'd argue that this is the sort of thing, along with things like "fix monks", that will be addressed by the 5.5 DnDNexter release in a couple years. I'm not arguing it shouldn't get fixed. I'm just saying I think it's likely coming (and vaguely more appropriate) in a re-release of the PHB than a single supplement. ESPECIALLY if the only way you can play a fixed draconic sorcerer in an AL game is only to have this new book. Tasha's is a bit of a strange bird in terms of supplements historically, and I don't think we should expect every set of player options to continue to "fix" old stuff in the PHB. Trust me, there were things wrong with 3.5 and 4, too, and I can't remember too many books that said "instead of what the PHB says, this class actually does this instead" options. Always "more options" rather than "fixes". Even the fixes in Tasha's for rangers are technically optional.

Honestly it should’ve been given an update and fixed and reprinted in this book. I completely agree it’s a missed opportunity.

Not the same thing in my book, the fact that warlocks didn't have this option at 5e launch bogles my mind. The difference between a dragon sorcerer and a dragon warlock is, the warlock isn't as changed physically by the pact. While the sorcerer its apart of them and fundamentally changes their mind and body. Dragons also seem like the perfect beings who would make pact with mortals. Even more so then celestial which I love the celestial warlock I just wish there was more pact boon and evocation support.

The fundamental difference between a draconic sorcerer and a warlock is that the draconic sorcerer has the blood of a dragon running through his veins and it is from that blood that a sorcerer draws his power while warlocks bind themselves into service to otherworldly entities in exchange for power and in turn, they act as agents in places where those entities can not exert their influence. Why would a dragon enter a two-way pact when it can simply get what it wants without one?

@@MI982 you seem to be thinking of this from the chromatic dragon point of view. Chromatic dragons would definitely give their subjects power as to better serve them out in the world. In the case of metallic dragons they would definitely become the patron of a heroic soul

@@MrGalagoth if you see them as just "flying blocks of hp" that's on you. Are they less magical than in earlier editions? Yes. However they still can be incredible spectacles when the fights are done properly, for example actually using a dragon's lair actions. These are beings so infused with magical energy that they can shape the world around them by just being in it, that still seems pretty damn magical in my book.

@@MrGalagoth If you read the section on dragons in the MM, there is a sidebar ALL about making dragons magical. Dragons can know a number of spells equal to CHA mod, of a level equal to or less than their a third of their CR. They cast these spells without neefing material components. Any and all dragons can get this, meaning any and all dragons can be very magical.

i personally think they started out not wanting to make subclasses too similar with the PHB because all the PHB subclasses are relatively different if a little basic at times, it isnt until Xanathars where they don't care about subclasses being similar

Not this time around. The new class and subclass updates won't go into effect until 2024 when they bring out updated material for D&D 50th Anniversary/what some are calling 5.5 edition. Getting a new book next year updating playable races with 30 in said book. So be patient and only time will tell.

@@misterdayne2792The direction of the Sorcerer subclasses in Tasha's has received widely positive feedback. They just released surveys wanting player feedback...your table, your rules. If you don't like how something plays homebrew it to your hearts content or wait until it's official. It's a game after all, have fun and be positive.

It's less work for them to add feats then take the time to create and playtest new sub-classes for every main class.

Also his reasoning behind not adding the druid made sense to me. I think that warlock and fighter definitely make sense but thats about it, i think they'll add them later, but it would look odd to do half the classes and not the rest. Better to make 2 then another 2 or 3 later down the road.

@@aidenharper6013 I definitely think it's a good argument! However I do disagree with it. Saying it 'eats the sorcerer's lunch' doesn't hold a lot of weight when there are many subclasses that overlap eachother. Plus, the Druids are nature itself, or at least the most out of all classes, not just plants and animals. With dragons being literally personifications of nature and the elements, it fits SO well with the druid. Besides, if we can have circle of the moon (which are elementals and already not as Fey, plant, or animal focused), then we can have a draconic druid just fine

Well the Purple Dragon Knights are only really "dragon" in name. Probably was skipped over because they're not actually relevant to dragons, and I'd imagine they'd revisit draconic sorcerers before revisiting purple dragon knights, but that's off the table too.

@@WolforNuva I don't disagree with that assessment. Maybe I'm also biased because it's such a cool subclass concept, but it's executed awfully and I just want to see it done justice. Then again, a revised reprint could even add something or change it slightly to be setting agnostic and be a bit more dragon themed. Though that is a bit more than WotC is willing to do.

@@lasonris8934 having wings is the least unique thing about the draconic sorcerer, especially for the level where it gets it. At 14, the divine soul gets spectral wings, so that's nothing special. An uncommon magical item (Winged Boots) can give you nearly as much flight as you could possibly want, and since its uncommon it is probably available from 3rd level. Some subclasses get avatars of sorts, buffing them like crazy for 1 minute, while also having more spells in general. So no, no sarcasm here. That subclass seriously needs some help.

@@lasonris8934 Just a guess at the very beginning of my morning, but: They start with natural armour AND the resistance at level 1, while also gaining 60 feet darkvision if they have none, or 30 foot increase if they already have it. 6th level gives them the cha modifier to their damage type and the wings, because 30 feet flying speed really isn't that special. At 14th, the Draconic presence kicks in with a 30 foot range, enhanced to 60 feet at lvl 18. 18th level: 1 sorcery point to become immune to their damage type for 1 hour, and also gain the equivalence of 1 legendary resistance per long rest. I would also give them cha+modifier known spells and some sort of subclass spell list that has a good synergy with their dragon type: necrotic and acid for black dragons, fire and and enchantment for red dragons, illusion/enchantment and poison for green dragons, etc. In general, just bumping it all one step down. Getting wings sounds incredible and cool at first, until you learn what nearly all other subclasses in general gets, and the chance for draconic presence is just so small. Not many campaigns reach 18th level.

It has the standard "pet" mechanics that appear in Tasha's. Summon takes an action, but doesn't have a time limit, has the same initiative, only uses the dodge action on it's turn unless you use your bonus action to use one of it's abilities... standard stuff.

The stars are way more thematic for a druid then dragons tbh, druids have always been about prophecy type deal second to divination wizards of course. I mean like prophecies are in like 80% of druid backstroies I've seen, dragons not at all.

Just a guess, but it'll probably be in Monsters of the Multiverse. They claim to be compiling and updating a good 30 playable races from existing 5e books, except for the core PHB races and anything too intrinsically tied to a particular setting, so I think it makes sense for Kobolds to appear there. Keeps them with the other races from Volo's and saves a bit of page space in Fizban's.

It has been scrapped, apparently, sadly. They didn't mention the kobold race update anywhere ever since the UA.

While i was bummed that there's no sign of kobolds in the book, i'm glad that the UA kobold didn't get added in as it was. All three options for Draconic Legacy were lackluster, and Draconic Roar, well... they seemed to have balled up all of the Volo Kobold traits into a single ability; 'Pack Tactics,' 'Sunlight Sensitivity,' and 'Grovel, Cower, & Beg' get combined into this thing that just feels lackluster in comparison (I say it includes Sunlight Sensitivity because PT and SS tend to cancel out, and now since you don't have both passives, it's like they're -always- cancelling out while not under the new ability's effects). Draconic Roar at a glance looks good, because you no longer have to worry about sunlight, you can still get your advantage, and you even get to give it to allies! That is, until you realize that you have to be near your foes to use it. So now ranged builds have take unnecessary risks to use their racial ability... on a race notorious for being cowardly and evasive. And while I can count on one hand the number of times i've used CG&B, That's more a result of party composition than the ability being bad-- which Draconic Roar will still have that problem (though admittedly to a lesser degree since you buff yourself, and its a bonus instead of a full action). All in all, it doesn't seem like a good trade. you might say that Draconic Legacy should make up the difference, but all options are not very exciting; - advantage against 'frightened' is very niche in most campaigns i've played, and I imagine it's fairly true for most tables as well - a free cantrip is nice, but being limited to the sorcerer list isn't great. At least you get Booming Blade for free on your rogue, i suppose - a d6 unarmed strike is rarely going to make a difference. It's great flavor and it will come in handy in 'oh no, our stuff was stolen' scenarios, but that's about all. I'm hoping that if they revisit kobold, they take a look at what kobolds are known for, and maybe even look at the previous stat blocks for inspiration. If they want the frightened resistance, allow us to give it to allies too, like the kobold dragonshield-- maybe even throw in the tail weapon here too, since it really doesnt need to be its own thing. If we take the cantrip, give us a sorcery point or two and one metamagic option of our choice to go along with it. And add other options too, like wings and a flight speed for urds, or some sort of trapmaking for kobold inventors. Anyway, that's my rant on kobolds. I'd love to see them updated, but it will not surprise me if I end up sticking to the Volo's variant.

I'm so confused on how people keep getting hung up on whether they have tails or not, if you want to homebrew them to have tails go for it i'm all in but like please just read the PHB

Imagine printing a Dragon book in a game called Dungeons and *Dragons* and still being this obtuse about what people want.

Pathfinder 2e managed a dragon instinct barbarian, so it's demonstrably doable. Honestly the book would have been so much more amazing if each class got its own dragon subclass, and an update for Sorcerer's. I mean the book is still looking to be great, but it would have been so fitting for Dungeons and _Dragons_ to give each class a dragon option.

Call Draconic Bloodline Infernal Bloodline. Change all draconic words to infernal. Done.

That'd be cool. Get some hellfire powers that ignore fire resistance. I'd love to see that.
