It’s gunna be a crazy off season. New CBA is a nightmare. Lots of teams think they are one player away so they will be aggressive. Teams going to have to develop rosters with true centres as Jokic, Embiid and now Wemby change the league. Bob Meyers has always been ahead of the curve and his move was to QUIT.

Got to wonder what stars who have already had their huge pay days will make a super team where they "only" take 35M a year. With this new hard cap...I mean, "second apron", there's _got_ to be three stars out there who would sacrifice a bit of money to win a title or two.
@greyklopstock7155
@greyklopstock7155 Жыл бұрын
As a warriors fan, I never thought of that in terms of the Myers situation. Honestly, thinking about it, that sounds like a phenomenal take. Bob knew he was in a zero sum game, and his answer was to cash out before he was forced to lose. He'd rather spend more time with his family than be forced to fuck up something he built just cause the new cba is making him. I think this new CBA might end up either screwing teams out of the talent they developed, or screwing players out of the money they've rightfully earned. Neither of those are good things. Guys are basically going to be forced to take pay cuts if they want to win, and if they want to get paid what they are worth, they'll have to go play for a perennial loser and be literally the only good player on the team to get the money.

Hawks for sure would be by underrated pick 1. Reduced number of assets/picks 2. DJ Murray invetably going to test free agency 3. Salary cap is eaten up basically by Trae / Capella / Collins / Hunter 4. Need to resign Okongwu and Bey to extensions in a couple years too 5. In a basically win now mode but really awful season by thei standards 6. Trae is allegedy a very difficult pesonality fo teammates / coach 7. I dont think the owner has ever paid the luxury tax - thats a big question to answer Luckily they got an elite coach but itll be intersting to see how they manuevere.

I'm not sure why the hesitation in the Mavs GM job being tough. No big names voluntarily want to play there for a set of reasons and the culture of the front office has not been fixed even after a few very public cases. They've also backed themselves into a hole by poor evaluation of Brunson and a bench thinning Kyrie trade.

Like you said KAT is a massive asset that they’ll be able to capitalize on, he gets a lot of grief for things he may not be great at but man he is still a very special player in my mind, one that somebody would certainly pay a nice price to obtain yet. With the new CBA, I’d think the worst GM jobs are those where the team already has money committed to a first or second option player that’s either overpaid or consistently disappears in the playoffs, ie, Toronto with Siakam, Knicks with Randle, GSW with Klay, Bucks with Middleton.
@haydennyagah706
@haydennyagah706 Жыл бұрын
I think they missed two sleeper picks. I know they take more into account than just the roster but something about Philly and Milwaukee seems very volatile to me. For Philly, if Harden leaves, what do you do with Embiid? If no superstar becomes available, how do they replace Harden and get another star next to Embiid. Or do you just trade Embiid altogether and rebuild around Maxey? And then they have to figure out what to do with Tobias Harris as well as also pay Maxey, which isn't too bad, but it'll be a lot worse if they also resign Harden, they'll have little to no money left to reshape the roster. For Milwaukee, it's just simply the fact that they have the oldest roster in the league by far. They have good talent, but eventually age is going to catch up to guys like Lopez, Holiday, and Middleton, and then how do they retool the roster around Giannis to still compete? I wouldn't want to be put in either situation

I think there are a couple more times that could have been mentioned. One is Atlanta, with those traded picks, Trae Young and looming contract for Murray. The other is Phoenix, assuming they can not trade Ayton to Indiana for Turner and Hield. Another option would be trade Paul and some pick to the Magic for Gary Harris and Cole Anthony. Those two trades would create more versatility and depth for the team.

Really surprised no one mentioned the hawks. In my opinion the hawks are in a much much worse spot than the pelicans. Also, as a knicks fan, I think we have to be in the consideration. I know we should be excited about the recent playoff run and having a guy like Brunson, but the team is really stuck in no mans land. What do you do with randle? Will rj barrett really take a huge jump, or continue to be a good, not great player? What about having a horrible owner? I get the appeal of having a good fanbase and being in New York, but the past few decades have shown that the supposed incentives of being in New York doesn’t really translate in landing stars in free agency/trades, except for melo. Yes Brunson is a great player, we have some decent young talent, but the roster is still pretty far from being able to realistically compete

As a Bulls fan it's an easy fix. 1. Trade Demar and Lavine for picks / cap space 2. See what Coby White, Patrick Williams, and Ayo Dosunmu can do with more shots and higher usage - can they prove that they're more than role players? If they can you're in a good spot because now you have some legit young players and picks from trading Lavine / Demar 3. If number 2 doesn't work out, further gut the team and rebuild from scratch - you also have additional picks from trading Lavine / Demar

Ryen has some darn good points about my Bulls in many ways, unfortunately. Though I wish Ryen and other commentators would stop dumping on Nikola Vucevic, he could almost fill a role like Al Hereford, at the right price ( and if he had the skill set and talent level, so I get what Ryen meant ). A few of the younger Bulls have good enough potential, but the way the team all crumbled under pressure and in the play offs worries me as a fan. Levine is a serviceable first option, if you had a more complimentary second star. Ryen is also right about how the Bulls owners are tight with the payroll, and the lack of good draft picks does not help. 11:52 I hope Bill has not "ironed things out" and is not "fine" with Isaiah Thomas, because Isaiah is a low down dirty snake - being "fine" with such an individual would lower my opinion of Bill. lel

Timberwolves arent as bad as it seems imo. You didnt really get much with your main guys healthy last year, and still you were one blown lead from besting the Lakers for the 7th seed. And then did better than them against Denver. You can trade Kat to a contender for quite a bit still if you want. You have Ant and Jalen as your core. Hopefully Naz Reid. Gobert is there but he can still anchor a regular season defense. Small market, so Ant as your superstar and being a 5-8 seed until the Gobert deal runs out. Theb yiu try to contend with Ant in his prime after some decent signings or trades. Its not good, but definitely salvageable.

Honestly I was hoping you would pick Golden State the entire time. You may think what the fuck are you talking about, they have Steph, Klay, Draymond, Wiggins, they fought a good series against the Lakers. But the wheels are coming off, slowly, but the screws are turning in the wrong direction. You are in salary cap hell with the Jordan Poole extension plus the ruined chemestry between at least two teammates. You just lost your priced GM who also had a special relationship with Draymond, who is on record saying it WILL impact his contract extension talks in a significant way who is not on the Steph Curry/Tim Duncan levels on keeping team chemestry afloat and staying silent the whole time. Did I mention the Poole extension? Yeah, good luck attaching draft picks just for trading this contract if he doesnt improve. You have an ageing core who is kinda injury prone, you are deep into the luxury tax with the new CBA rules kicking in, you have chemestry issues at least lingering and the owner talking about promoting his son to a significant role (when did that strategy ever fail?). Forgive the bad movie anology but this feels like the cliff in "Thelma and Louise" where Bob Myers got out of the car, seats you behind the wheel, gives you a pat on the back and tells you "the future is right ahead son, keep driving". Don´t ask why he had to put a cinder block on the gas pedal (JP 130 mio contract) though.

I think the Miami Heat is an underrated horrible GM job... I know the owner cares about winning and competing every year, so that's great. But when I think about the top talent on that team, their assets, it's really underwhelming (if I'm thinking about next year). Jimmy will decline. Lowry has already declined. Herro seems over paid. Their undrafted diamonds in the rough have played well enough to get bigger contracts in the future (but will likely all be over paid). They'll have a bunch of Duncan Robinson contract-type problems. And I know Duncan is playing well now - but it feels like a team built around a bunch of mid level talent. And Bam as their top young talent seems to have hit his ceiling. He's very good, but clearly not a number 1 guy. I'm not saying I don't like the team - I root for these guys. But I think it's an enormously challenging GM problem waiting to happen. I think there's a thin line between them and what the Bulls are now (old top talent - no young prospects who you feel comfortable paying a max contract).
@gators9570
@gators9570 Жыл бұрын
Bam arguably has 2-3 seasons of offensive growth still. Herro is an alright piece with trade value if something comes available. Butler is under contract for a few more seasons so they just have to hope he can maintain all star form. Gabe will be retained and molded into the starting point guard. Duncan is more likely to continue on as a good shooter than not, so he’s at least playable, which is huge. Martin is actually on a steal of a contract for 2 more seasons, so that helps them tread water. Lowrys final year is a huge help with them being able to add a decent role player. And they have Jovic in the back pocket for next season. I think next season they’ll have a better regular season and finish top 4 seeds, though they might not make the conference finals. However, this run they went on has done huge things for the front office. Free agents that would have laughed at joining the heat might be swayed now being able to play under Spo and with Jimmy
