Not excited about it but still hopeful

Excited at least for a story and companions. If I'd listened to every "reviewer", "fanbase", I'd miss a lot of solid games and movies that is actually turns out to be good, including "worst games ever" Dragon Age 2-3 and Mass Effect: Andromeda.

i find funny how its an universal thing that everyone says "this looks like overwatch/fortnite/league of legends; not like Dragon Age"

I feel nothing, but much more worrying about Mass Effect.

Very worried. Focusing on the stories (and romances) w/the companions instead of the world-ending evil? What if Mass Effect just focused on your interactions with Garrus, Tali, Wrex, Liara and just treated Saren/Sovereign/Geth as little side missions? (i.e. - the exact opposite of those games) It's pretty, but the art style is more like Fable than Dragon Age. This could be Andromeda-level 'meh', and maybe more aptly renamed Dragon Age: Tinder.

But also the whole game has been scrapped a couple of times. It can really show, because there are inconsistencies unfortunately, especially in writting, it doesn't fully follow the tone that was left in the Trespasser. I'm still looking forward to the game, and I think it will be a good one... But for example, at the end of the Trespasser Inky with Leliana, Cassandra and Harding decide that "Solas knows our strenghts and our weaknesses. We need to find someone he doesn't know." Cue stabbing the map at the Tevinter Imperium. The tone is urgent, we need to stop him before he gets to the ritual. There's implication, that Solas will only be convinced to not go with his plans if we present other option ("Solas, you don't need to destroy this world. I'll prove it to you!" "I would treasure the chance to be wrong once again, my friend."). Then, in the Missing comic, which leads directly to the Veilguard, so it must have been few years, Inquisitor and Charter (Leliana's agent) send... Varric and Harding to get a lead on Solas. What happened to finding people he doesn't know? So we are sending two people he knows well, one of whom he is friends with? That's... strange. In the comic Varric is also upset at Charter for sending Harding with him, because "she has a good heart, if Solas will make her hesitate, she will die, we are going against a guy who turns people to stone." Anyways, the two chase him around, through the Deeproads, Arlathan, etc, finally arriving in Minrathous, where he escapes them at last. The two of them then decide to have an amazing idea - "Solas knows us too well! We need to find people he doesn't know!" ....... Umm. Wasn't that the plan from the beginning? What happened to it? What were you doing all these 8 years :') Varric is shown to be grey and bearded in the last panel, so I assume it is very close to the Veilguard. What was the Inquisition doing all these years, where defeating Cory took only 1? It's just not making much sense, it makes Inky feel stupid. Then Varric picks up Rook, just at the exact moment the ritual is starting - cheesy - and later he says "Let me talk to Solas, if he won't listen to me, he will hear from Bianca.". Varric, you remember Solas can turn whole army of Quanari to stone with no effort right. What your crossbow is going to do against him? He also says that they need to sell him another option, but he doesn't have that another option, what was the Inquisition doing, again? Instead he walks up and is all like "Hey Chuckles, stop that, people are dying, please!". Dude. I think he knows. At this point Solas killed Fellasan, killed Mythal, used whole Inquisition for his purpose, devoted 10 years to his plans, potentially left Inky he loves, his agents commit suicide when captured... I don't think saying to him "people are dying" is going to help. I'm not sure, I can't get over how cheesy it all is so far.

YES, that would have been much wiser. Though, as pointed out by David Gaider, DA has a long history with...music not matching the tone. Bad trailers is a thing for Dragon Age at this point.

in retrospect, i think it was supposed to be 'fun' because it was a companion reveal trailer versus the gameplay which is more DA's tone but seriously, DA isn't always super serious either 'hawke stepped in the poopy' is a legit line from DA2 and that's just one out of a lot plus, DA trailers and mass effect never looked like the game but do i think this should have been a reveal trailer after so long of waiting? NO, poor choice unless they wanted rage bait which if you look at tik tok DOES in fact work unfortunately

doubt Varric survives longer than the gameplay demo...

I'm more worried, first trailer showed the characters design is lacking. The gameplay revealed that their voice acting is lacking too. Dragon Age has never been about gameplay it has been about writing. And so far the writing is not looking good

@@hellerdamon6101 patrick weekes made solas and is still doing the game and writing for solas, i'm not worried from clips and the voice acting was not bad? neve at first i was like 'eh' but i grew to love her voice male rook voice is nice too and varric, solas and harding are literally the same

it really depends on the player because from watching people on here a lot of them don't give af about switching characters and tactical play i like it but it is what it is, that's modern gaming either way, it looks like there are detonation combos and combat will be very mass effect which you can still use some strategy with so i'm not complaining about combat yet either way i'm playing it but obviously there are pros and cons to every dragon age game for me a lot of people truthfully don't like going to play origins (new players) because it's so slow and clunky it's just how it is and people will say but bg3! yeah and dragon age was never turn based like bg3 even if the combat was slow and you could pause

@@nightfrost1891 I've seen an absolute uproar about not being able to switch characters and only having 3 (!) abilities available at once in most of the comment sections I've come across. Inquisition was already a massive downgrade combat wise with 8 very limiting ability slots. I'm not asking for turn-based combat (although BG is proof of "slow" and sophisticated combat systems selling well :p), but I don't want a simplified hack and slash game. Look, I'll buy the game and probably enjoy it because I love the DA universe, but there are several aspects to be concerned about.

Just because the past creative team members are gone doesn't mean the new ones aren't good. Everyone seems to forget that the old creative teams were responsible for 2 and Inquisition while complaining about how much worse those were... New people might have been exactly what the series needed

@@Akeyins There have always been backlash about Bioware games, but look on the past Dragon Age materials - none have such ratio to like/dislike. I do not think the game will be bad, awful. But even after the gameplay, it doesn't feel like Dragon Age game to me, it's cheesy. The enemy design, the character redesign, the whole art direction. And the writing is clunky, it doesn't follow up on what we knew in the Inquisition, or the characterizations. Again, I believe the game will be a good game. But it gives me more vibes of Hogwarts: Legacy, than the Thedas and people we knew.

@@pativi6643 the like/dislike ratio for the trailer is definitely understandable, but that was EA, not the dragon age team. And I don't think we can judge the writing of the whole game based on 20 minutes at the very beginning, especially since they cut out stuff to avoid some spoilers. I just hate how everyone seems to think they know exactly what tone the story will take based on the very tiny bit of what we saw, especially when people who've played the game (like shinobi602) have said the writing is darker than what we've seen and have really only had good things to say. I will agree that the art style looks more like Hogwarts legacy, but that was a beautiful game and probably had more to do with the frostbite engine than anything. I'm willing to deal with that if it means good hair physics and longer styles for once lol

​ @Akeyins Alow me to disagree with you because most of the last writers and the creative team was the same ones that bring Thedas and that worldbuilding to life. Most of what you know of Dragon Age its by the hands of these writers. So yeah, im a little bit concern. And please, i think that we dont need here something like "i just hate how everyone"... no one here is talking about the game yet. If you read my comment, youll just saw someone concern about the lack of the creative writers that build dragon age to what its today. Ill play the story, im huge fan of dragon age and bioware, but EA tends to put their fingers on creative writing and mess things up.

I totally get your point of view and why you're concerned since the original writers created such an amazing world, though I do still think that new writers might end up being a good thing for the series moving forward. (Well, as long as EA doesn't mess things up, because you're definitely right about that. I'm just hoping they learned their lesson after people complained about the other games that they put their fingers on)

Maybe we just missed the lore that explains that male pattern baldness in dwarves affect the chest hair not the head hair?

@@Vhaal-666 ah yes, because you've played the entire game and know exactly how they're handling character relationships 🙄🙄🙄 art is just a style choice and literally no one was complaining about the dialogue wheel (except that they missed sarcastic Hawke options which they added back). The combat is different but other than that they seem to have improved on everything based on what we know. So yes, they listened. But go ahead and try harder to make nonsensical arguments out of nothing 🤷

@@KimEllendale I went Morrigan with Human Noble Warrior in Origins, Isabela with Mage FemHawke in 2, and Cassandra with Qunari Rogue in DAI. Loved Cassandra, but she was very much a silver medal for me because all the flirt options with Vivienne go nowhere. 😭

Apparently some folks weren't interested in gameplay or story trailers, they already made the conclusion based on some influencers opinion after promotional/introducing CGI trailer with Varric and dropped it's rating to -95% on peak. Just a reminder that Mass Effect 3 is also a "1.0" and "worst game ever" according to "fans" and Metacritic.

@@J0rdan912 I know right? There are just trying to win some bucks making "hate video" on a cg trailer its really annoying..And I bet you half of them never played a Dragon Age game in their life... Its just really sad that a game that a lot of people worked on was already destroyed even before getting out. Im just hidding every videos that are just trashing on the game at this point...

I don't think th game will be the worst game ever - it looks and feels nice, I believe it will be a good game. But there are plenty of valid concerns. In general, it gives me more vibes of Hogwarts: Legacy, rather than the Dragon Age game.

@@pativi6643 It definitely seems similar to Hogwarts Legacy) But hey, both based on fantasy world and because of the HL huge success, it totally makes sense that other open-world RPG would try to make it familiar and adopt a thing or two. Seems fine so far, but there is always place for improvement and concerns, but not devastating hatred based on details someone just didn't liked.

EXACTLY and i don't even find it cartoonish like da2 or me3, it's more a paining type style and the hair looks AMAZING (at least for gameplay)

I mean, we reached the level of realistic graphics, that I believe won't "age badly" anymore. Personally I'm not a fan of changes, especially character design, and enemy design, though the environment looks nice. And while Inquisition does show age, especially in environment, I already miss the detailed character designs -Varric, Cass, Dorian, Vivienne, all the main cast looked so well. Solas looks completely different, the maturity and intensity of his facial features, details is gone.

Dragon Age Inquisitions reveal trailer looked exactly like the game and even showed parts from the game.

@@alucard8433 not any of the ones i remember but there were a lot of trailers and even if they did in inquisition (which i don't agree) they definitely didn't with any the other games (and vaqrric looks completly different in the trailer with him as the focus) either way, gameplay sold it for me with inquisition too gameplay looks great for this so idc about trailers and no one else should either should they have done a better trailer? yeah but it is what it is most people complaining are still going to play the game anyway and you can't really fully judge a game before it's out

If this game flops, Bioware will be shut down, as that would make 3 massive flops in a row, Mass Effect Andromeda, Anthem and this. At that point EA would probably give the Mass Effect and Dragon age IPs to other studios. As it stands right now i would not have any hope for a Mass Effect game by Bioware or have you already forgotten Andromeda?

⁠@@alucard8433Mass Effect: Andromeda and Athem both sold 5 million copies each. You can say what you want about the quality of the games, but they were definitively not “flops”. BioWare isn’t going anywhere and the next Mass Effect is already well into development.

Yeah, I only watched this video because it was Kim's, and I'm really rolling my eyes a lot having to moderate the comments here. To be clear, there are some things from the gameplay reveal that I don't love either, and it's completely fine if people think the game won't be for them. Nothing wrong with that. But the amount of people who act like the world is ENDING and Bioware is DEAD and all the REAL Dragon Age fans will NEVER play this game, all because this little trailer was poorly done, is just ridiculous🤦‍♀ I feel so bad for the devs, and I hope all this negativity wasn't getting them too down. Overall, I am hyped for this game based on everything we've seen.

I think the actual characters in the gameplay trailer look fine, since I don't think you necessarily need an overly realistic style to tell a dark and mature story. But the enemy designs are garbage (probably a holdover from when this was being developed as a live service game) and the gameplay itself is concerning as a person who got into PC gaming _because_ of Dragon Age Origins.

@@caseyhastings9219 You could tell a dark and mature story using cute animal puppets, but that's not the point, is it? What does the choice to move away from a more realistic art style tell us about the game direction? Arguably nothing; until we see much more of the game itself we're forced to speculate. But if it looks, quacks, etc. like a duck then it's reasonable to assume it is one.

Why so many people focusing in design and not the tone? Gameplay didn't fixed anything, if so it worsened all by showing the lack of blood, the monotone voice acting, the dialogue wheel saying something and the character saying something totally different... The writing for the characters is not looking good and that's the most important thing in a Bioware game.

dragon age and mass effect has never had 'amazing/realistic' looking characters and dragon age 2 and mass effect 3 are straight up cartoon (you can tell the difference from me1 and 2 models to me3 the way your character looked if you play non-defualt/npcs) this style looks more artistic, like a painting but not straight up cartoon, it's not as bad as people are saying or in this trailer and plus watching gameplay the hair is better than bg3 and many other games tbh but i say your character and the animations are a lot better than other games

You will be able to customize your character to look however you want, That has always been a Bioware staple i doubt they will get rid of it for this.
