I feel that FighterZ is not only an educational game but also intuitive and inclusive for casual gamers who have never had so much contact with competitive fighting games. I had little to no knowledge of doing combos in fighting games but FighterZ comforted me so well that, after learning the combos, I was able to execute combos from other fighting games VERY easily.

That's why we need to change the name of subgenre of games like DBFZ to arcsys-like to differentiate them from those pieces of shovelwear (this also includes other companies like French Bread who made Melty Blood and the UNI series) (also yes I called the arena fighter genre shovelwear)

It's the most known Anime 2D Fighter, but in no way was it the first. You still have very old games like JoJo's Heritage for the Future from Capcom, Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax from French Bread, a Fist of the North Star fighter also from ArcSys, And that 3ds One Piece and Dragon Ball 2D fighters that could connect to each other that ArcSys did too (They made Supersonic Warriors as well a long time ago). Something else actually to add with the release of DBFZ was that a little part of its hype was also due to everyone hating Marvel vs Capcom Infinite.

I wanna say he means the more recent trend of every big anime game being nothing but mediocre arena fighters, which if that’s what he means I can kinda agree in someway with fighterz being the first in a while to break from that trend, but he honestly didn’t seem too enthusiastic about the game so idk more info needed.

@@SuperDeleto its actually weird though bc of how thin the bang spikes are in the front. At the same time, there is literally no lightning (which is normally intended for ssj2 outside of some ??? moments in the buu saga and some parts of the cell saga) and the bang spikes are in the wrong places anyways if it was meant to be ssj2. Safe to say its ssj goku flying at you with just some thinner than normal bang spikes.

I wasn't really too interested in the whole dragon ball series until I played this game, now I have my keyboard background be Goku. I got fighterz because it looked really cool and was made by arcsys, whose guilty gear strive got me into fighting games.

My favorite thing about FighterZ is that not only is it a good fucking fighting game (now has great netcode too), and one of the most well balanced ever, but none of it comes at the expense of the "feel" of Dragon Ball. The mechanics are structured around how the fights in the source material happen, and all the moves are ripped straight from it to the point that you can find the EXACT pose from the EXACT panel or frame that it's from. On top of that, it's the most beautiful and accurate looking dragon ball game too, perhaps even the best looking fighting game too.

This is why sparking blast is hype, they take the “still shots” to the next level with the black and white “manga-fication” they figured out how to structure the games in a way where you’ll find your way into these moments!!!!!

None of what you listed about "feel" is special or unique to FighterZ and all of that was found in previous Dragon Ball games especially the Budokai Tenkaichi games and now the sequel Sparking! Zero.

@@m.a.k.dynasty4504 only difference is that FighterZ actually has characters with unique and actually distinguishable playstyles and strategies. There's a reason neither the Budokai OR the Budokai Tenkaichi competitive scenes have ever gotten out of discord servers, if even that. And that's not for lack of popularity or trying, because they sell a lot more than traditional arcade fighting games + the DB fanbase is as passionate as can be. The games are just not competitively deep. The homogeneity of the characters means that those games are best seen as a virtual action figure box to recreate DB fights, at which they are marvelous. Also, the part about being able to pinpoint the moves to the manga panel/anime frame is absolutely unique to FighterZ, especially at the scale, and accuracy with which it does it.

@@theflashfan3234 I don't care about Budokai Tenkaichi not being a competitively viable game. That's never been the core appeal of the series and if that's something that you want in a Dragon Ball game, then you should stick to playing FighterZ for a while. People praise Budokai Tenkaichi because it matches the feel of the exhilarating battles from the anime in a 3 dimensional space near perfectly for its time, something you don't get out of FighterZ or many other Dragon Ball games after it. No doubt when Speaking! Zero drops, a lot of the old janky and exploits will (hopefully) be removed due to the game being built from the ground up on a newer engine and stronger hardware. However, if the game truly wants to be a success, then it needs to adhere to the strong philosophy set by the old games and appeal to the audience that made the game a success to begin with. Trying to neuter the experience for the sake of "balance" and trying to appeal to a competitive scene that practically doesn't exist (And largely built on abusing mechanics and using exploits.) will only upset fans the series is directed at to begin with.

It's not just that Mvc and Mk stans were upset because it wasn't 2D or 3D it was a new combination and it was being bragged about more than a lot of fighting games.And then this game had a MVC character switch mechanic.

The 3D arena fighter trend is actually pretty recent. Up through the PS2 era, lots of anime properties had 2D fighters. Yuu Yuu Hakusho had a bunch all the way back on the SNES, as did Ranma and Gundam. Inuyasha had a 2D fighter on PS1 before it went to a 3D arena on PS2. Elemental Gerad and History's Strong Disciple Kenichi also had 2.5D fighters on PS2. Even One Piece had a 2.5D fighter on PS2 while also transitioning to arena fighter. Not to mention all the handheld 2D fighters with Bleach and such. Zatch Bell had TWO 2.5D fighters on PS2, and a Smash clone. As a matter of fact, there was a Smash trend before the arena fighter trend. Zatch Bell had one, as did Full Metal Alchemist, Evangelion, and even Jump with Battle Stadium DON.

We need more licensed fighting games with this quality, being actually great fighting games first and then fanservice galore. What I don't like about most 3D arena fighting games is that they are widely unbalanced, clunky, overall way too casual and no depth, with die hard fans defending overpowered characters and unbalanced mechanics because "that's just like in the anime, that character is supposed to be stronger than anyone else" and I get that, but not in a game that should be about competition between players, if you want the game to reflect the anime's unbalances a single player experience would work much better (look at DBZ Kakarot for example, or all the Pirate Warriors series).

How exactly are popular arena fighting games the Budokai Tenkaichi and Ultimate Ninja Storm series about "competition between players"? These are essentially party games. Just because the latter offers a superficial ranking system and leader board doesn't mean that it was built with the intention of being played at an ultra competitive level at EVO. I support demanding more substance to be put into these 3D platform fighting games, especially with the prices they're demanding we pay for them. I also support wanting these kinds of games to have more depth to their combat and mechanics. However, I believe that there are 2 completely different demographics when it comes to 2D traditional fighters and 3D arena fighters that uphold different values and standards for their games. For instance, when it comes to the Budokai Tenkaichi games, balance is NOT a priority as the unbalanced nature of the game and authenticity to the power levels of the series is the core appeal of the game to begin with. Try to remove that for the sake of "balance" and catering to a competitive scene that largely doesn't exist for this series is something that would alienate a lot of the target demographic for the game to begin with. Frankly, if people want a DBZ game built with a competitive aspect in mind, they should stick to FighterZ and not demand that other games comply with this design philosophy.

Jojo's all star battle is a INCREDIBLE fighting game with tons of content,gameplay that is filled with depth,and a manga accurate visual style that is a treat for the eyes. All of this was released all the way back in 2013,but since it was an exclusive to a dying console (the ps3) so it died off before it could get a chance to get popular. It's my favorite anime game and an extremely underrated one so I recommend the remake All Star Battle R which is on ps4 and xbox 1(it's also on game pass) sorry if this seems off topic or random😅

This is a very light look at the game almost as if you were an outsider looking in. Wish you were more detailed with your talk bout the game. If this was meant to be an objective/community perspective look at the game then it feels too light on info, but if it’s meant to be from your perspective it feels too detached. For example you mentioned fan service a couple of times and like I wanna know more specifically what there is or what gave you goosebumps, like “if you are playing as yamcha and nappa gets a clean heavy hit that wins the fight, it’ll play a cutscene that reenactments yamcha losing to the saibamen, but if it’s the other way around a ‘what if’ scenario will play with yamcha knocking the saibamen into nappa and he’ll be in the yamcha pose instead,” or something ya know. What about android 21 you mentioned her once when talking about the game leading up to release, but what about her? What makes her unique, what was the general reaction to her, how do you feel she fits into the world along with other non-canon characters? Why not mention the different game modes, or how characters play in relation to one another? Maybe it’s just because your demon slayer video was my intro to your content, but a few specific things I remember you disliking about that game was the lack of character variety and the lack of 1v1; however based on the footage you provided, it seems like 1v1 doesn’t really exist in a normal match and all the characters play exactly the same, just get close and mash the light attack button or hit special button from a range. Now the no 1v1 thing is true, but I know that’s not actually how the characters play, but that’s because I’ve spent a few hours just trying to see what was possible with a few characters till I settled on playing with super broly, Android 16 and yamcha. I know you came out the end of this video with nothing but glowing praise about the game, but I feel you should spend more time with it, and try to get into the nitty gritty of the mechanics and really find what you like and maybe dislike about the game. Me personally, I love how free combos feel despite the lack of any sort of Roman or baroque cancels and how detailed everyone’s move list is seemingly pulling every attack out of a different panel of the manga, but I will say online is really bad and makes otherwise well balanced abilities like the super dash into scrubby safe pressure that’s almost impossible to react to, also this may be more of a problem with early characters, but I feel like characters play a little too similar. Obviously there are big differences, but when you compare DBFZ characters to something else arcs has made like Blazblue, Guilty Gear, DNF Duel, persona 4 arena, heck even the last dragon ball game they made for the 3DS, characters feel a little more similar to one another than what the company normally puts out. Something personal like that would give this video a bit more of an identity you know?

@@Cam10_84 I think it’s because guilty gear xrd and strive characters, while yes simplified/completely retooled, are still just as different from one another as they’ve always been (aside from the removal of FRC in xrd and weight in strive of course). I think you’d hear stuff like that more if like street fighter 5 came out today tho as the characters being stripped down did actually make a lot of the early characters play pretty similarly.

Personally the controls in this game are hard to get the hang of but what i find most odd about Dragon Ball FighterZ is how there is no Japanese announcer whenever a match begins or you get a destructive finish the announcer is always in English it sounds like Justin Briner to me and while i recognize Justin Briner as a talented voice actor and he does a good job as the announcer in Dragon Ball FighterZ i wish the announcer's voice could be in Japanese it feels weird to have all the Dragon Ball characters speaking in Japanese audio but the announcer is in English and you might say just change the audio to English and problem solved but i personally want the voices in Japanese another thing is that when you pick a character who has a different name in the Japanese version the announcer will say the English name i know that the English names are more popular and maybe most people probably don't say Kuririn or Yamucha but still i set the audio to Japanese i want to hear the Japanese names

Unfortnatly this amazing game (one of my favorite games of all time) is just the exception to the rule, lazy anime games keep coming every year. I BEG Arc System Works to do it again, like a DBFZ 2 or with another franchise, such as One Piece who deserves au good game. It would sell really well so what is Bandai waiting for ?

I used to like this fighting style but for some reason as I got older I'm just not a fan. I like the Kakarot style much more. You can't please everyone though. I still bought this game just to have in my collection though because I love DBZ so much. I've probably put 200 hours on Kakarot compared to maybe 5 hours on DB FighterZ lol

You should take a look at Dragon Ball Xenoverse. It’s another Anime game that was received fairly well, and had a really strong community for a long time. It offered a lot more than most typical anime games, and felt both nostalgic but refreshing.

It had a problem with online mode being very limited with poor netcode and not having any form of spectating, some of the characters balance being tied to having unreliable combos, a small roster and I personally think the rps that’s tied to burst is a little too strong sometimes and I guess “on the nose” is the right term for it. Other than that i think it was pretty good with fun really unique characters a comparatively high skill ceiling and it looks and sounds good obviously

It’s because the game went through a lot of stages. I’m pretty sure the game was only meet with praise within its first year. But eventually fatigue, mixed results in patches, and a lack of rollback caught up. Fighterz isn’t given the respect it deserves, but I would still say it’s a beloved game.

@@morrasod1858 i dont think it's as beloved as you think, and i also think dbfz is very poorly handled patch wise. the reason why there was so much praise is because all of the broken shit in s1 couldnt be found until s3 due to the shit training mode. once there was stuff added like frame data, the broken shit like the fuzzies were found

Spike makes some banger ass visual novels like 999, Ai the somnium files etc, but their arena fighters have a lot of misses. So he’s saying bandia shouldn’t be hiring them to make fighters for them as their forte is visual novels.

Spike Chunsoft is known for Danganronpa series and they also make arena games lmao, but hey they working on Sparking Zero and it looks good hopefully its amazing to play it

Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is the best Dragon Ball, there’s not even an argument you can make. Plus Fighters doesn’t have Spike the Devil Man so it can’t be the best anyway.

Bro did you just say kakarot is a better fighting game than dragon Ball fighter Z I know everybody has their own opinions but like bro the only thing that really has is flashy cutscenes which are animated fantastically but all the fights just feel exactly the same and there's no unique combos or nothing you just press punch it then throw a key blast eventually

Taking a look at dust loops it says beerus, adult gohan, cpt. Ginyu and android 18 are all top tier. If none of the free characters were top tier I could see where you were coming from, but you could have a full team of them without paying.

Ok I took a second look and what I found was most of the listed competitive player’s tier lists they have listed agree with captain ginyu being at the top or like next to jiren at the top, but all of them seem to agree that the S tier is populated with a good amount of base characters beerus 18 and adult Gohan being the most frequent ones showing up. So maybe you have some info that I don’t about the game that makes it pay to win. Would you mind sharing what you know?
