Yours is the self fertile variety 😄
@chefcristv3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. Yes, it's self fertile, I pollinate with it's own pollen.

@@chefcristv I had a flower bloom last month and it didn't turn into a fruit, just aborted after 4days. I have come to a conclusion that it needs to be cross-polinated. Now, I'm trying to collect pollen from my neighbors tree 😄 to see the efficacy of frozen pollen. Hopefully, I'd get to harvest fruits this year too.

@@rayofchel4216 Hi there, sorry to hear about that. Good thing there's someone close with dragon fruits .Are your dragons still budding/flowering? Try to feed them with potassium rich fertilizers. Synthetic or organic as per your preference.
@rayofchel42163 жыл бұрын
@@chefcristv Yes, I got 3 blooming in 3-5days. I'm pensive on feeding them synthetic fertilizers since they'll (hopefully) be turning into fruits and I'll be pigging out on them.

That's great. Good luck and may you have more to come. You may still add organic fertilizer like worm castings to ensure your dragons have enough nutrients to sustain the fruits. And with organic fertilizer, you can't overdose your plants as long as they are well decomposed.

How to identify hand pollination is successful?
@chefcristv3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question. Yes, that is a very interesting question. As of my experience, usually you have to wait for 2 weeks to confirm that your hand pollination is successful or fruit set. The fruit would grow bigger and don't turn yellow and fall off. Usually it takes 21 to 30 days from flower bloom to fruit ripening.

@@chefcristv Thank you for reply. This year my dragon fruit start flowering but all my buds after flowering got yellow and fall off. Can you suggest some remedies from your experience
@chefcristv3 жыл бұрын
Firstly, identify your varieties, are they self pollinating or need pollens from other varieties. 2nd fertilizers, during fruiting season, dragons need more of potassium and phosphorus, mine are in containers so I fertilize them monthly (synthetic) plus in between just water or compost tea. Then 14-14-14 once in 3 months. Rendering the soil with compost aswell if available.

@@chefcristv i did hand pollination for all my flowers but all fall off. Here it is rainy season in kerala.
@chefcristv3 жыл бұрын
@@deepajohn15 ah..yes I forgot to mention that when it rains you have to protect them from rain after polination. I use a large plastic bag to cover it and let it breath in the morning or when the rain stops.
