She did mentioned "bridging the gap between the initial evaluation and the new evaluation" and there were no arguments for this, especially when the company has so little cash reserves. If you are so smart, why are you not in Deborah's shoes?

***** A; you know nothing about my life, and B: I never claimed to be smart. I just think Deborah Meaden is a dunce, and that's why the more intelligent and compassionate of the group (Peter Jones) has continued to get richer as this show has gone on, whilst her value has remained stagnant.

***** Can you elaborate on what you mean please? The product had been improved on since the 3 investors at£50 000 were in the picture with his investment of around £50 000 as well. That investment played it's role and I believe, according to his statement, that are now paid and that is no longer an issue as the company has now improved due to the cash flow injection. So for a more advanced product, Deborah was asking for the same deal as the initial investment or better. Peter felt insulted by this because he felt for some reason that the man viewed their input as mediocre when compared to the initial investors but I'm not sure how he could come to that conclusion. If they were in anyway better than the Dragons, then he wouldn't be there. He was there for £250 000 injection in to a growing business. The projections were based on a £250 000 investment from the Dragons. I thought the idea was to go in and show what the business could do with a cash injection and be profitable and therefore give the Dragons reason to invest but didn't he do that and then get told his company wasn't worth the evaluation? Thanks.
@HemoStopRomania
@HemoStopRomania 8 жыл бұрын
As far as I understand, they did not asked for the same deal. In fact, the "end deal" was for 250k for 30% of stock; the original deal was 50k for 30% of stock. I am not going to watch the entire clip again, but at some point one of the dragons said "the evaluation is wrong". Not a single dragon said that he wants exactly the initial deal.

In addition, the lighting may have impacted on his ability to follow what the Dragons were saying, particularly if more than one were to talk at the same time. I'm currently studying "Internet Systems Development", a four year course, in college. Basically it revolves around programming databases (SQL), software (Java), all things regarding the web (HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript and so forth), etc. The website is quite poorly designed and is not pleasant to view. The one thing I can imagine that would be difficult to do is pricing user's books, CDs and so forth. He probably spent a few dozen [extremely frustrating] hours working on everything. Basically, imagine trying to get an entire school exam completely correct. You can get assistance doing the exam (Friends, internet, books, etc.) and then the examiner marks your exam though doesn't tell you your result, only that you didn't get 100%. You now have to try to figure out where you lost marks yourself, fix it and resubmit the exam. If you do not get 100% then the process is repeated until you do. That sums up programming. Everything has to be perfect and it can be extremely difficult to understand where you have went wrong with something.
@Markonim
@Markonim 8 жыл бұрын
Lol no, it doesn't take much, only problem is getting a pricing catalogue from the public library and making it into a database and the whole system ( programming wise ) would take 1 person 1 to 2 months to build :)

exactly, and just to add to that, in the early days of a business of course 10% would be worth 17,000 it's not a big business, when it grows the EV goes up and so does the share prices. Why can't the dragons do basic math? of course it's worth 250k now because it's a 3mil EV, not 160k EV like before, how is that not reasonable?

Jayckob maybe the dragons thought the current valuation was over inflated. Most pitches tend to have very unrealistic valuations, many of which even factor in forward earnings projections as a component of current company valuation. None of that smoke and mirrors numbers manipulation ever works on this show. A conservative stance is the key to luring an investor.

What a scam. Pretty sure the other investors bought in at a cheaper rate because the company was only taking off. How can the Dragons now say I want the price those guys got years ago? That's fucken disrespectful and a scam. They played on this guy and his mate coz they seem pretty easygoing but they failed to realise that the company value had gone up every year. I think these guys should have taken their business elsewhere. Very poor deal on a company with a proven trackrecord of exponential growth.

9 жыл бұрын
Well, basically his company didn't have the book value to account for the difference that one guy pays 50 and gets 10%, and the dragons were asked to pay 250 for 7,5%. Or 1% for 5, and he wanted the dragons to pay 33 for 1%. To justify that, his book value would've needed to increase by 667% between those investment moments. Now later investors have more data to go on and have lower risks, so you can inflate your equity value by a bit, but nearly seven times as much... Ridiculous. That one dragon investor offered him 8,33 per 1%, which seems decent given his figures and business model.

I think you missed the point they were making. I agree that you can't assume the value of a business to not change over time. That said, the other investors had RECENTLY bought in at a substantially lower price (considering they paid £50k for 30% which the chap was now valuing at £1m). Considering that monumental shift in value, do you not think it's strange that the company owner can't express a single reason for the change in valuation? If he had a reason, e.g. "we had 250 registered customers at the time of the previous investment, we now have 5,000" - fine, that makes sense, let's move on! But he couldn't express a single reason for why the valuation has changed which is worrying. It sounds like ultimately it was a mixture of him well overvaluing his business (£3.3m going in to the den, £0.8m leaving the den) and getting a woefully bad deal off the previous investors.

Reason they are there in the first place as they have probably exhausted all other options or they need more money invested than banks or investors will give them, so it is worth the risk as they have 5 wealthy options in front of them willing to listen and possibly give them more money than they've ever made in a single year.

Not necessarily. They might have been initial investors to the business that brought in the money, so if the company were to grow in value the price to buy in to it would increase also, meaning the price to buy shares in the business would also increase as the estimated value of the company is greater than when it started. Imagen that you invested 50k in to Microsoft when it first started and received 10%, would it be fair for someone to demand 10% today for the same price?! no of course not.

It really shows how the “Dragons” actually see themselves. Self important and arrogant. As successful investors etc I don’t understand how they think it doesn’t make sense for them to pay more now that the business is clearly worth more than at the time of prior investment. How much value can of course be argued but this attitude whereby they become outraged and offended is just pathetic. It comes down to pure ego. Not their most dignified moments I must say

This is why the rich get richer. They spend 8 years of their life developing a product that he gets to purchase 30% of for 0.25% of his total worth. He then ties that business into his current portfolio, makes money off cross-promotion, and comes out the other end smiling. Ben should have countered with the statement that altho they bought in for 50k they have nearly a decade of sweat equity in the business which is why the value of the business has increased and therefore shares are worth more.

I bought it for £30 new a few years ago; to buy it new on Amazon.co.uk today costs £11.69; and Zapper.co.uk was offering me 3 cent for it ... :/ These kinds of websites have utterly ridiculous valuations for used products - I've stopped trading my stuff in to these companies because they're worth a hundred times more than what I'm actually going to be getting for them.
