Completely lost my shit when, after several painful minutes of Preach describing the most convoluted loot system I've heard of in my life, it ended with, "...additionally, any roll can be overwritten by a member of the Loot Council."

Hihi Preach, author here! ♥♥♥ I wanna thank you for reading out the story on stream, it's a little bit surreal, as I didn't think it'd actually happen! ^^ I wanted to answer a couple things that came up during the reading of the story, just to give you an extra taste of the story~ Why didn't I leave sooner? I was dumb and guilty as heck. Yes, we had exactly 20 members, no more, no less, so every single absence did usually stop us from doing progression for the night. Several of our prog kills on easier bosses were routinely done with 19 members, and interestingly, some of our best raid nights were when our GM was absent, even though we had to raid with 18, as pugs had to be approved by the GM before being invited, and we had enough whistleblowers that we couldn't do it under the radar. During our monthly guild meetings, which I really should've gone into more detail about. We would go to specific locations in game, usually the little picnic area in Dalaran, and would have to afk there for 2 hours during the meeting. We would have certain raid members act as "speakers" who would talk about our progress that month, our plans moving forward, and would give encouraging messages. It took forever because each speaker had an introduction along the lines of: "I'd like to call out a specific member to come speak for you, they've been in the guild for a long time as a core member of the team..." and the GM had an introduction for each speaker, and each meeting we'd have 2-3 speakers, usually the role officers. Interestingly, two hours was hardly enough, and we'd constantly go onto nearly 3 hours routinely. We did actually manage to get past sisters in ToS, somehow, the reason why we couldn't do desolate host was because our raid leader and GM didn't like the normal strategy for the fight, and insisted on doing the fight "our way," (read: his way) which stopped us from actually progging past it. The GM used to cite one victory of his during WoD where he came up with a supposedly better from for one of the bosses there as a reason why he always insisted his way was better... About me being prohibited from speaking with the GM's wife: the reason it had barely any context or explanation was because I had barely any context myself. The night was quite odd, as his wife and I had quite a pleasant and nice conversation, and nothing seemed to rub her the wrong way or anything. I assume the GM just flipped out, as he was obviously a massive control freak, and he and I didn't seem to get along anyway. I don't want to comment of their relationship, but he did a lot of suspect things in general. And given the way he treated our offtank, I can't imagine things were the most comfortable there... >.> Also, about my parents, mental state, etc... I decided not to go into the deep details because I feel like it wasn't appropriate to the show. However, over my time in mental health treatments, medication, learning to be a stronger person, dealing with my symptoms, I've since become a significantly better person, and I'm glad to have finally put all my problems behind me. Though, they're, of course, still a part of me, and I keep them close as a symbol of strength, y'know. But please don't worry about me, I have lots of friends and more than enough support structures in my life to keep me safe and happy!!!! And I've since made up with my parents, and there are no hard feelings between us! It actually took a second hospitalization that I didn't mention, but they've finally come to respect me ^^ If anyone has like, more questions about stuff, feel free to ask! ILY all! ♥♥♥♥♥

Geez that story man. Every time i see stories like that i feel I really lucked out in having such great supportive parents. The way some people treat there kids like garbage is just heartbreaking.

Just in reference to the thumbnail, I had cut the end of my thumb off in a work accident and was in the hospital all afternoon. I went home instead of going to the pharmacy to get my pain meds since they shot me up with a lot of painkillers and felt fine and figured I could grab them later. It honestly didn’t hurt much when I did it too so I didn’t think it would be that bad. In the middle of Sindragosa heroic prog the meds start to wear off and 25 minutes later I was drooling and unable to bring my head upright off of my shoulder due to the pain. I speak up on voice coms and say “I’m really sorry, I know we have another hour until we call it but I cut the end of my thumb off today, the meds wore off, and it hurts so bad I can’t see straight, that’s why I’m getting killed by this stuff now.” And my team just threw their hands up and were like “fuck that get the fuck out of here go get your damn meds holy shit”. Cleared it the next raid 👍

If it was me, the SECOND I heard those loot rules explained, assuming every other red flag did cause me to fling myself out the nearest window. open or other wise, this stupidity would have 110% cause me to bolt. I've seen a lot of Drama Time nightmare loot systems in the short-ish time I've been here but holy fucking shit. This is some next level 'bad loot rules' fuckery right here.

I don't have two hour meetings for work, no matter the situation. Almost anything that takes more than thirty minutes people are wasting time or not prepared.

This was entertaining, even if I've never played WoW in my life, I did understand what was going on. My god, I'm happy that the person ended up in better place of sorts. Especially when it came to the parents, sheesh.

You know that scene in “Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back” when they find ppl who’ve trolled them online, knock on the door, and kick the shit out of them when they answer? That’s the treatment Wazim deserves.

I always love hearing the darker but real stories of people that overcame or are working to overcome their hardships since as someone that's also had a really bad time with similar issues I find it very inspirational. I'm glad my life is finally getting better after so many years while this community has always been part of what's kept me grounded and moving forward each day. Love you guys

this story would've lasted anywhere from like 10/30 mins if the author just left as soon as the guild started blithering on about the team bullshit, never mind seeing their hilariously asinine loot rules in in action. i would've been out the door so quick it would've looked like i was being chased by cops.

okay I haven't heard the first story but as a raid leader I have definitely had players who have pretended to either be in the hospital or gravely injured to excuse some kind of absence, and my reaction to hearing something like that has, to these specific people, been less than concerned.

The melee officer's 'table-flipping' retort is somewhat stymied by his willingness to write a resignation letter. I assume too, that he was offering to pen it by hand, as tables are a lot harder to flip when they have PCs and printers on them. And just think, back in the day, how hard it must have been to flip a table, with a 40 kilo cast-iron typewriter on it. 1:26:20 Which is why you _always_ need to *BURN IT TO THE GROUND.*

Love these stories but what mystifies me is why people put up with this bs for so long. Especially since you had a core group of like-minded and capable players in your own clique Discord. Just take that and flesh it out to your own guild and leave the crazy "we are a team and as a team I decide everything" people behind.

Listening to this story makes me so angry that I wanted to throw something.

The loot system concept basically just sounds like an RNG roll weighted towards BiS. It's convoluted but there are way worse loot systems out there for gearing raids, like straight rolling. Aside from the fact that officers have super tiers for their rolls or that the loot council can just say "nope", obviously.

I have been in a guild where my girlfriend was the GM and I was the raid leader for YEARS..... we never had this... dafuq, we had a loot council for tier sets, which was set in place before the patch even started (per class, not per rank), and everything else was a roll, bis before regular. it's only come to problems once.

The queues are dying? They've steadily increased on my server here in NA. Not only have the queues gone up, but the speed at which the queue advances has slowed down.

I’ve turned down guilds who were desperately needing my class and role because of fucky loot systems like this. It never works out. All it does is funnel gear to the chosen few at the top while the rest of us are left scrounging for scraps while we struggle through content and get bitched at because we aren’t hitting the numbers they expect. I went though 2 fucky loot systems and told myself never again. It’s never worth it unless you’re one of the few in the clique at the top.
