Hi Doc, see if you can get in touch with Dr Vanita Rattan in the UK. She knows her stuff and was advocating for mineral sunscreens from the get go. She's also very insightful on skin of colour and how the skincare industry is overwhelmingly focused on white skin. Skin of colour works a little differently and there's pretty much nothing on the market to cater to us.

Dr. Brad. It is true that Red Light Therapy does cause fat loss when Tretinoin is present, even if the face is washed the day after using Tretinoin. The combination does cause facial fat loss.

Surprised the question of vitamin D from sunlight wasn’t brought up in this discussion as we need a decent regular dose of sunshine on our skin for good health. I’m not entirely convinced vitamin D supplementation covers the entire range of benefits that sunlight hitting bare skin produces.

@@universe25.x People always say stuff like that then it turns out they fast 16 h a day or something. You would need 72-96 h fasts to make a difference, and you are not going to be magically 18 again just less bad then others the same age. High carb diet also ruins the skin because cortisol is constantly shooting and while cortisol is OK when fasting it burns up your collagen quickly when in a fed state.
@betzib8021

@@universe25.x I agree...I have done many long term fasts...and I stopped because I noticed my skin was getting looser and aging more quickly. I think skin likes nutrition and lots of water intake through drinking and/or eating.

Would be fantastic if we could take the discussion towards ligament, tendon, cartilage and other collagenous structures healing. I know beauty is a popular subject but if we degrade and don't keep our body all together with our connective tissue, having young skin doesn't really matter.

Totally agree with this. Anti-aging is much more then skin deep and how fast one might run. It’s kind of difficult to move when bones get cut out of one’s body for knee replacements etc. one thing I can say is sugar is devils spawn causing massive inflammation throughout the body. I'm glad Michelle mentioned the potential liver affects of retinols. I had elevated LFTs for months, couldn't figure out why. I was using tretinoin nightly. When I finally told my Dr she said to stop for 3 months. Enzymes went back to almost normal. This is powerful stuff! Note that I used prescription tretinoin, not an OTC retinol. I used an OTC retinol during my 3 month break, I used the retinaldehyde she mentions, Medik8.

Nobody in my family has ever used sunscreen and there is no skin cancer or increased skin damage. I am 70 and spent quite a few years in the sun for hours for my job. I do think an organic diet with limited toxic exposures makes a hugh difference in your skin health. I also take vitamin C throughout the day. If I am going to be outside I take some before and after. My dermatologist said I have good skin. I also stay away from sugar, gluten, and seed oils.

Would I be completely off base in hypothesizing that by orally supplementing B3, Hyaluronic Acid and hydrolyzed collagen simultaneously, the niacin flush might assist transport of the metabolized hyaluronic acid and collagen to the extremities/skin more efficiently (i.e., during the flush, which as I understand it from a lay standpoint is essentially caused by an increase of blood flow into the capillaries). I understand this has probably never remotely been studied, but is there a reasonable hypothesis that the three might benefit from an “entourage effect” when consumed together?

great video! I've been looking for something like this! two questions that I would be interested in hearing more about: 1) skin microbiome. is there a benefit of maintaining it? can you actively maintain it? how does it react to all this topical intervention? 2) vitamin D absorption if youre using sunscreen every day. My understanding is that much of the population is already vitD deficient. Does the benefit of regular sunscreen outweigh the cost?
