I had a bad flare of malassezia folliculitis in December and since it was along my chin and neck no one believed me and thought it was bacterial acne. They gave me antibiotics, which if I had taken them would have made it so much worse. I remembered your older videos and watched back and was able to get it under control until I saw a dermatologist! Thank you for your continued willingness to teach us ❤

Thank you Dr Dray!!! The info I gleaned from this video will help me GREATLY now and when I go to the😮 Dermatologist next month. Pretty much looks like I've been plagued with Malassezia Folliculitis (Fungal acne). Flares up suddenly out of the blue for seemingly no reason. However, I HAVE been on a lot of antibiotics over the last 18mo. from multiple Diverticulitis/UTI flare ups, C-diff and COVID causing yeast overgrowth. I look back and think a lot of the problem has been caused by Antibiotics and Stress all along. Thanks again and have a blessed day!!!😁

Very helpful information! I will try your suggestion for my stubborn tinea versicolor… They prescribe the k meds. But I was afraid to use it since I don’t know what it is. But I’m going to try this. It goes away like you said in the winter, unless I wear a scarf or something to trigger this. Also eating less sugar I noticed helps. But I also notice some things trigger it like scents. Especially strong scents in hair products. So I’ve been looking for products especially for hair wo scent. Hair products wo strong scent is sort of difficult to find. It’s getting a bit easier though, but they are not as effective. Perfumes, even natural ones can trigger it for me too. Best

I recommend putting conditioner on the ends of your hair before you use dandruff shampoo on your scalp. It will protect your ends from getting too dry. If your shampoo is really stripping, you could put a little more conditioner on your ends after you rinse it out. You can also add argan oil to your ends before you wash your hair and proceed as typical.
@czechmatey

I wash my hair a lot and it's become dry. I don't have time to do a weekly oil treatment (which helps), so I love this idea of adding conditioner to the ends of the hair while shampooing with shampoo. I'm going to try it the next time I shower! Thank you!
@raraavis7782
@raraavis7782 Жыл бұрын
@@czechmatey You can also oil your ends, before you wash your hair. No need, to let the oil sit on the hair for long, or to use an expensive oil. All it does, is to protect the more delicate and damaged parts of your hair from excessive stripping. Go ahead and do some experiments with conditioner, a hair mask and different oils, you have on hand. It all depends on your hair and also your shampoo. You just have to find the right combination of products.
@smushface3999
@smushface3999 Жыл бұрын
@@czechmatey make sure your shampoo and conditioner are pH balanced (around 3.5-5.5) and turn your shower water to lukewarm/cool when you’re rinsing off your conditioner just before getting out of the shower… those are easy ways to improve the health of your hair. If you are shampooing once or more per day, you also may only really need to shampoo your scalp area (so don’t intentionally bring your shampoo down to your mid lengths/ends and see if it makes a difference).
@czechmatey

Can you do a version of this video for candida yeast types? I actually presented for a prolonged period of time with yeast infections while I was being treated with a complex series of antibiotics. Because I didn’t have any presentation other than external skin symptoms - and because I wasn’t told to look for it - I really did have to go through infectious disease to find out that candida was perpetuating half of my problem and to finally have it explained to me when to seek treatment!!

I have seborrheic dermatitis, tried it all to get rid of it (when I had a bout of it). Only the 2% ketaconazole (Nizoral) helped me. It is OTC here in Belgium and we only have the 2% on the market. But before I discovered this (together with my derm), it took a while. My dad? Same. My mom, oddly enough can do 2 months before her hair gets oily. Seriously. She is white. Our internist once said to just go with it, not wash too much. She is 77 and has fared well so far doing just that. In any case, IMHO ketoconazole is one of a kind. It's been good to me, still is!

Hi dr Dray! why is it that malassezia thrives in hot, humid environments and when there's too much oil production, but conditions like seborrheic dermatitis flare up in the winter when it's actually less humid and the skin is less oily? I am at my wits end trying to control my seb derm after being on long term oral antibiotics due to a life-threatening bacterial infection😞 I am wondering if I should discuss accutane as an option with my derm for the seb derm? since so many of the topical ointments I've been prescribed have helped only minimally and the condition recurs once I discontinue their use

The 6% salicylic acid cradle cap lotion that I recently purchased (to chemically exfoliate my feet), has come in very handy. I use it on my face (to clear pores) and also have been applying it to a small area on my arm on which the skin was dry and slightly red. It flared up occasionally & became itchy (normally after I had even a small amount of alcohol)! Anyway, after GPs tellingly me that it wasn't anything to worry about (because it wasn't cancer), this oil based salicylic lotion has seemed to have finally calmed the area. I don't know whether the problem will return if I stop applying the SA lotion, but so far so good. 👱‍♀️❤

Years of antibiotics for acne left me with fungal folliculitis. It was misdiagnosed as hormonal acne for years. Scalp, face, neck, back & chest. The years of antibiotics created a vitamin k deficiency, gut imbalance, weight gain, and fungal folliculitis. It's really difficult to reverse the damage caused by the antibiotics.

@@lisagardner4814 Hi there, for my facial treatment I do Malezia Urea Moisturizer & Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5%. Its working extremely well. I use Ketoconozole shampoos for my body which have been working good, and top it off with Cure Water treatment moisturizer, its worked really nicely for locking in moisture (apply while skin is still wet!)~ I used to do Ketoconozole on my face, but it wasn't working as well and I wanted to switch off of it ( had been using for over a year) so I went with the Malezia routine and it took about 4 weeks to really get the routine to start doing what it needs to do, the Benzoyl peroxide takes some getting used to, but I find it really effective at drying out the fungus and also any acne cysts I get from my hormonal imbalance.

I had to self diagnose this as malassezia folloculitis because multiple doctors diagnosed it incorrectly! They thought it was atopic dermatitis, an allergy to something, sensitive skin, or eczema. Since working out what was actually the problem, due to certain signs such as itching a lot after sweating, and hypopigmentation in eyebrow hairs, and little bumps similar to keratosis pilaris and a papular type rash, and the fact I was prone to fungal nail infection and chronic athletes foot, I started using diluted tea tree oil, tea tree oil soap, and ketoconazole. Guess what, a massive difference after 4 weeks of treatment! I have suffered with this for more than 3 years and finally after being given incorrect advice from dermatologists and GPs, and prescribed steroids and unsuitable treatments, luckily I decided to self diagnose myself and hoping I am on the road to recovery ❤

@@iriskeniafernandez5647 yes in 4 weeks it's improved a lot, I no longer get an itching face when I sweat! I use squalane to cleanse and Vaseline to improve my moisture barrier and help my skin heal. Not 100% yet but I try to keep the fungus at bay with ketoconazole wash once every week or 10 days, and also occasionally tea tree oil diluted in squalane. It's taking some time to clear completely especially from the back of my shoulders but I am just happy I'm heading in the right direction 😊

@@irenealexandra yes, basically when I have a bath at night using Nizoral shampoo and lathering all over my body particularly where I was suffering from itching/fungus e.g. eyebrows, forehead, behind ears, neck, upper arms, stomach, feet, toenails. Leave for around 8 mins before rinsing off. Repeating once a week. Can also use selsun medicated shampoo alternately if desired. Using Sainsbury's tea tree oil glycerin soap for sensitive skin during bathing. I have dry skin so moisturising after bathing using squalane and vaseline. Before bed: mixing 15 drops squalane to 1 drop tea tree and apply topically to affected areas. Using 2% ketoconazole cream topically on affected areas daily for 2 weeks then every other day. Also treat fungal nail using drop of tea tree oil on cotton square on nail and cover with plaster overnight. Also fungal nail paint during day if desired. Keep nails short and clean. Sticking to only olive squalane to oil cleanse and remove makeup. Wipe off with cotton pad. Moisturise only with olive squalane and vaseline to maintain moisture barrier at night. Check all SPF, foundation and make up products to make sure they have only malassezia safe ingredients. Continue routine with malassezia safe products until symptoms clear then introduce some other moisturizer back cautiously if desired e.g. aveeno moisturising cream for myself. Continue Nizoral shampoo wash once a week as maintenance. Also after sweating during exercise, making sure to shower as soon as possible after finishing exercise with tea tree oil glycerin soap.

I have had an odd single 1”x1” patch approx 1cm lateral to the commissure of the mouth. The confluent rash looks like under the surface bumps very small and red slightly pustule like and have been trying to determine if this could be a yeast issue or perioral dermatitis. If it was a yeast issue would I see spreading in the past month that it has been persisting? It has not spread beyond this particular space. I live in a northern community with no access to a dermatologist or even a doctor so have not been able to peruse any help. Treatments for each of these seem to negatively affect the other should the condition be misdiagnosed?

I have horrible tinea versicolor since 20, yes, 20 years!! (I was in Kenya for 3 months in a rainforest and had to take antibiotics as a malaria preventative and I think that combination just threw off my skin's balance). It keeps coming back. I got 200mg fluconazole that I was supposed to take daily for 14 days. I felt extremely drugged and fell asleep at work and felt confused the whole time. I also was prescribed 2% selenium sulfide shampoo to which I had an allergic reaction: my whole torso felt like it was burning and my patches turned bright red and bumpy.
