At a training camp in Livigno we had the opportunity to watch the mechanics Alessandro Stocco and Andrea Vezzoli of the Astana Pro Team maintaining and rebuilding the bike of Jakob Fuglsang.
The Wilier 0 SLR is a very elegant and ultra light frame with complete cable integration. Besides a very reduced look, this also brings aerodynamic advantages. For all racing cyclists who want to create their own individual dream bike, Wilier offers a custom paint program which allows almost infinite design possibilities.
In 2020 Jakob Fuglsang already won the Tour of Lombardy on Wilier, in the video you can see in detail what kind of material he rides in the races.

May save the rider half a Watt, but takes the mechanics a shitload of Watts and all their ability to deal with frustration. All-internal hose/cable routing is most likely the most stupid trend in cycling technology in the last 30 years, eve more stupid than integrated seatposts and behind-the-bottom bracket rear brakes.

No gloves, no ceramic bb, no direct RD mounting, 2 guys needed to get the cable integration right, wheels not balanced, electrical tape not cut so it will come loose, bartape from out to in (other way around is preferred) and 310 grams of excess weight. Beautiful bike but many small improvements can be made to make it better.
@echnaton123
@echnaton123 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, what is bb and RD? Where are the 310g coming from? How can I spot here that the wheel is not balanced? Thx!
@l.d.t.6327
@l.d.t.6327 4 жыл бұрын
@@echnaton123 Hi, bb = bottom bracket. From the number of free rotations, it seems like they use standard bottom bracket bearings. While those are pretty good, I feel going ceramic (or at least as friction-free as possible - mind you: most friction is in the seals, not dependent on the material of the bearings or ball races) would definitely be an upgrade if only for the 'feel' when pedalling. The gain would be around 5-10 watts going ceramic (or seal-free would also do that, but ofcourse takes lots of maintenance). About the RD (rear derailleur): current Dura-ace has the option to mount it by the direct hanger, but they don't do that here for some reason (maybe Wilier doesn't have one). Main advantage is improved stiffness (you have one pivot point less: the direct mount RD is specifically designed to be in a better position (for wheel changes and to keep the chain better on the cogs) and to be stiffer, but if you don't take advantage of this by still using the B-link, it's a pity. The wheel is not balanced as you can see around 8:09 . (the bike is jumping up and down). In practice you won't notice this too much unless going at very high speeds. As far as I can see, the tires / tubulars don't show a bulb, which is actually far worse than some inbalance, and occurs more than you would wish on pro bikes. Lastly, the 310 gram (actually 315, but it's better to keep some margin!) is what could be shaved of to reach the UCI minimum weight of 6.8kg. This bike is now 7.15, so it has the potential to be around 300-310 gram lighter, which is a free weight saving for the rider, if only they would manage to design the bike to be as performant but a bit lighter. They use a hell of a lot mounting paste, by the way.

@l.d.t.6327
@l.d.t.6327 3 жыл бұрын
@@nickjohnson710 honestly, I don't know how often they replace bartape these days. Especially if it's black I think they keep it on longer and wash the bikes, and that's it. A good steel BB should perform very well. The problem is these days that seals, bad tolerances and bad installation destroy BB in no-time. Every little bit in this area helps, until we go back to one-piece cartridge systems or cup-cone. Side loads are simply not managed very well with modern-day BB.
