I love my Dremel! I found out the hard way that they are not meant to do heavy duty jobs. My Bad! Instead of throwing it away....I fixed it!
Here is the part number for the brush holder/thermal fuse.
Dremel Genuine OEM Replacement Brush Holder # 2610009854
Or you can just get the 110 degee Celsius Thermal fuse and solder it on yourself.

I replaced the brush in my Dremel twice over a few yr period. The third time, I found the brush melted into the area housing it, and I was unable to remove it. My Dremel was slightly smaller than yours. I never did replace the thermal fuse. I invested in a lot of the attachments for that Dremel, so still hanging onto it. I've since gotten a larger similar tool, but someday will go back at the old Dremel for another go at fixing it. Thanks for this video!

Karen you lady are awesome ... I almost gave up on my dremel 4000, till you mentioned that bloody thermofuse... you saved me a good $240. I can't be thankful enough .. you ROCK! for those who don't have a fuse replacement, you can simply bypass it by soldering a high Amp wire at least 25A across the thermofuse .. this is NOT recommended though as you'd lose the thermal protection, but it'll get you back up immediately

Hi Karen, love your thought process! Unfortunately, I seem to think that I can fix anything, which can sometimes be my undoing, but for the most, with patience and confidence manage to concur enough to try something else if the need arises. Your living proof that if you grab it by the horns, and give it a crack, weather we’re familiar with what’s in need of repair, or just going in by braille, we can fix a lot of things that many people wouldn’t even attempt. Anyway, love the vid….well presented and can tell straight away that your there to help people and not to impress them. From neurosurgeons to tree surgeons, we all need something repaired or prolonged for many different needs….wants, ect:

Hi Senora Karen , Namaste from India, I do own one such unit here , had to woo my fairer half to allow me to buy the dream tool, basically girls are ever forgiving of the wayward ways of men in general & know that boys are always on the look out for some silly reasons to buy a tool they fancy, anyway , in India we have limited presence of DREMEL, & it is hard to find the spare parts or accessories for DREMEL , just pray for us in your spare time so that lay persons like us do not encounter such situations as you did , may God bless you!

The fuse is intended to protect the motor conductor insulation. If you upsize the fuse you leave your motor exposed. By using a higher temp fuse, next time the motor will melt instead of the fuse.

Just got mine today and turned it on to test it works. Well I ran it and was impressed with the low noise level and feel/balance of it, All good, however when after maybe its first " dry run" which lasted all of a minute. I was really surprised to feel just how hot the collet and shaft were! Great video and I think I will be needed to follow your instructions sooner than I think. If I keep the thing? They are"hobbyist tools" and I get that no problem, but over heating WITHOUT a load is a bit bs me thinks... Maybe I should of got a Dremel... Oh wait. Thankyou again for the great video 👍

I was very sceptical because it got so hot when I first tried it but I Have used it without having it at full speed And low and behold it works great, who'd have thought! I had no choice because the bolt head that had to be cut off was above the muffler and all the framing was really tight and nothing fit in that space so I used the flexible extension shaft you can get for it and used that until the Dremel burned out - then I went with it by hand with a hacksaw blade in the cheap plastic handle thingy for a few hours until 10pm and then went in to go to bed - and then I started the next day with a small cordless drill Dad bought and that fit in, using the dremel cutoff discs because the 3" cut-offs are too big for the space. Finally. I don't ever want to do that again. But the hitch receiver is off. I'm going to try this and fix the Dremel. Thanks Karen. And also Hi, you remind me of Mrs. C when I was a kid. The carbon brush set are both worn down and rounded on the edges in my Dremel 4300. But could that cause the power switch to stop turning the motor on and off? It appears this model doesn't have a Brush Holder Thermal Fuse. It isn't locked up, just stoped running while I cut into an exterior vinyl siding corner with a Metal cutting Dremel wheel. If you are making this repair do yourself a favor and buy a replacement brush holder part instead of soldering in a fuse. If you must solder a fuse, use a small vise grip plier as a heat sink to avoid overheating the fuse. Also, buy a 5A fuse instead of a 10A fuse which is much easier to find. The 10A fuse has a larger wire and is more difficult to form and work with to get the connections lined up for assembly.

you would know if the dremel is overheating as it would be blowing scalding hot air out the vents.

You are absolutely correct! The tendency is to hold it in such a way that those vents are indeed blocked.

Dremel wanted me to just send them my Dremel after it was smoking hot. After a lot of trying to find out if it was covered under warranty (no), and try to get a replacement price if the unit was destroyed ($54, at this time), I decided it would be better for me to at least open it up and look for myself before sending it in. To note, when the Dremel was smoking I unplugged it and queched it in water. This could have destroyed the unit further but I considered the importance of preventing a fire hazard more important than the machine. Absolutely make sure the unit is unplugged before quelching in water. Also understand that the water will become boiling hot with hazardous steam! Take appropriate precautions to prevent injury. That said, my thermal fuse never broke. After though cleaning and drying, I let it set open in moisture absorbing beads for a couple days (to make certain no moisture was in the electronic parts to short out). I'm glad the unit is functioning again with no need to spend money. I am concerned however that the thermal fuse didn't break in what obviously was over 100°C since the water was boiling. I'll have to reach out and see if I can buy a new thermal fuse just to make sure my unit remains safe in the future.

I'll note that I'm NOT buying Dremel products again. They don't seem to be the high quality product that I once respected and the extremely limited warranty isn't worth much. It comes down to a fact that my dremel was 3-4 years old and at
