I have the same Dremel. It stopped working this morning, so I stripped it down, didn't check continuity of the Coils. Couldn't see anything wrong, so assumed it was the PCB or Switch Unit. Did a quick search and found this, opened it up again, and it had exactly the same break in the Coil Wire. Soldered a short length of Wire to the end, rebuilt it, and it works again! Thanks so much for sharing your find. One small tip to add; Instead of peeling the Stickers back (they never re-stick properly), just run a Razor Blade down the join in the Body Halves.

And it's stopped again . . . It's had around 3hrs use since I fixed it. Opened it up again, and you've guessed it, a Wire on the other Coil has broken! I'll do the same fix.

I'll add my comment too.. same issue, carving away with my dremel 3000 and inexplicable sudden cut out. Tried replacing the fuse in the plug, once I'd established the mains supply was still fine. Nothing. Literally a day or 2 before the extension attachment had been thrown out as the attachment screw in cap had been getting stiffer and not gripping whichever socket I put in. Now here was the main dremel just deciding to not operate. I have a backup older dremel but still, as you say in your video, these aren't exactly cheap wherever you live and really didn't want to have to buy a new one, especially as having to replace the extension attachment now. I'm so glad I decided to check for any tips online first. Followed your video, no surprises to everyone who's already commented: EXACT same problem! Literally unwound a strand of the copper wire and looped it around the terminal before reassembling .... it works again! I'm no way a gifted electrician, can just about change a plug or run an extension cable etc. But thanks to your relaxed and clear video, was able to get this important tool back up and running again! Thank you and I hope your KZfaq goes viral and you get some deserved credit and remuneration for helping train a load of hobbyists like us to be able to not only maintain our own dremels, but also pass this on too. And dremel...? Maybe sort this issue for future dremels?!!

Wait there is a fuse in the plug? Where is it? This might be my issue.... The connections inside mine are ok. Mine didn't have the circuit board inside though.... Diont know if that's due to American power cords....

Hi. I was just about to hit the ScrewFix after my Dremel gave up the ghost, but I took it apart first and yep, exactly the same problem. I couldn't get enough wire to reconnect it though. It was also so tightly wound I was worried about making it worse by trying to pull it out. However, I found a bit of an old electrical wire, stripped it and pulled a single strand of copper wire out (same diameter as Dremel's), and soldered them two together. Sorted. A really informative video. Thanks. Much appreciated .

Thank you so very much for posting this video! My machine just stopped working midway through a project and I was heartbroken. These tools are rather expensive in South Africa and it took me a number of months to save up for one. It’s about 18 months old now and just stopped working… The fix didn’t take too long and as I am not very good with electrical repairs I was overjoyed when it worked again. Thank you!

I could spin the wire a turn and put it back. thank you very much, I would never have thought of that!

Great video. Mine had exactly the same wire break which looks like planned obsolescence by Dremel. The vibrations make the unsupported wire resonate at certain speeds and it eventually breaks off at the pinch point. If you extend the wire by soldering you MUST glue the wire onto the cardboard backing or it will break again at the solder joint. This was a tip from an air force technician. I used polyurethane varnish, but super glue would probably work OK.

Great video, thanks, showing how to quickly gain access to the internals. Note that you can unwind one turn (carefully) giving you enough enamelled copper wire to pass twice through the pinch point of the terminal (by wrapping around post and through the bottom of the terminal). Bad design in my book because the action of inserting the terminal into it's holder stresses the copper wire by pulling it tight against the knife points at the bottom of the metal terminal exacerbated by vibration. I fully expect this to re-occur on the other terminals for the same reasons. Thanks again.

Only one side of the Winding will unravel, as the other will come from the inside of the Coil. Sod's Law means the broken one on mine was the inside Wire, so I had to solder a short piece onto the broken end to fix it. The Wire is Lacquered, so you need to scrape it gently with a Razor Blade before it can be soldered.

Rang Dremel, Bosch, same problem just stopped working. The brush had at least 6mm so well above the 3.2 mm replacement. The nearest repair was 60 Klm away so decided to have a go myself following the video. My one had exactly the same fault so i wound the wire then re attached put back together and it works. What a great KZfaq video. I have not used this dremel all that much and have had it for about 6 years, and in fact rarely used it, I bought a cheaper version “dremel” over 40 years ago and it still works! Looks like the dremel has a manufacturing fault. Once again thanks for the video posting easy to follow.

I have a barely used Dremel 3000 (probably less than 4 hours total) that I received as a gift a year or so ago. I'm finally finding occasion to put it to use. Lo and behold, I bought a flex shaft for it today and half an hour into my project the whole thing crapped out. I found this video and it helped me eventually pinpoint the same electrical failure. I had to unwind it from the coil a bit as it was too short to reform a solid connection. Unfortunately there was a loss of tension on the wire from unwinding it. I read somewhere down in the comments here that the wire hanging freely could be a failure point in the future (not sure if only applies to those foliks who solder a new connection, but the other wires are pressed tight against the sides, so I figured I didn't want to leave it hanging loose.) I squeezed some super glue around the wire to hold it in place and let it run between the clip down to the loose part of the wire. Hopefully it holds in the long run. That seemed to fix the electrical issue, it started up. But when I went to go test the functionality, the motor was scraping against something- I had to take it apart like 3 times. Finally I got fed up and went to just tighten the absolute !@#$ out of it because I figured maybe not screwing it in all the way was allowing the motor to slip around and bump into the plastic. I think that actually was the case because as soon as I tightened all the screws up as much as possible, it worked like new. Just glad I don't have to buy a new one to get my project done. Although I do have a Chicago Electric laying around somewhere...... Now my issue is that my flex shaft is getting HOT. Always something to problem solve! TL;DR - make sure you tighten the screws all the way into the case if your motor sound clunky- it's probably getting loose from it's own torque and bumping into the plastic.

I had the same problem with my Dremel 3000 and the fault was identical to yours - a field wire broken at a terminal connection. I managed to free enough of the broken wire to solder on a length of similar guage allowing it to be pressed into the base of the faulty terminal and, bingo, a working Dremel! 😊 As multiple people have experienced the same problem, I suspect the cause is excess tension on a terminating field wire during initial assembly as eventually, heat and vibration cause the strained wire to break. The extension wire I inserted is relatively loose, so I don't expect it will break when subjected to heat and vibration (tbc! ). Thank you for posting your video. Knowing where to look made my repair much easier 😊

Hello. I have the same problem, and I was thinking of doing the same thing you did: uncoil a bit instead of adding a new piece (like other videos suggest). Did you have any issues after doing that? The stator will have a bobine with fewer windings than the other. Or I shouldn't worry about it? Does it make a difference in the performance? I would appreciate any feedback from anyone! Thanks!

Thanks Mark! My first Demel 3000 died the same way, techies said it could not be repaired. Second one died the same way BUT you have come to the rescue. Good video. Thanks

Excellent! Ok so after seeing your repair, I decided to look at my dremel which hadn't been working for years. After getting it apart, low and behold, broken winding wire. You saved me from having to buy a new one! You rock! And you are thoroughly appreciated for what you do! THANK YOU!

It Works! I ended up cutting the coil twice because the first cut was too short. I crossed my fingers and toes and said the magic spell "this should not work" and hey presto, it now works! Thanks heaps for this video!

OMG…the same wire was broken here. I managed to solder a tiny wire to the copper wire and connect it to the switch and everything worked. I couldn’t have done without your help 👍😀⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Wow, just have others have said I had my Dremel suddenly stop. Luckily I had just finished the work I was doing but I was pretty annoyed as although I have owned the unit for a while it has had fairly light use! I had a broken wire just as you showed and it is now repaired and working...very happy as any repair job is sooo satisfying. I did find the part online after this but repairing rather than replacing is always preferable. Thank you sir, my Dremel lives again!

Dremel is in the trash bin…. Might run out and dig it up. Update: exactly what it was. Couldn’t get that wire to unwind, and wound up unwinding the hole coil. Made connection and rewound it. Works. Thank you. Will order a new coil soon though.

Thanks for the vid. My collet nut got stuck and was skipping trying to take it off. Eventually got a big plier with a piece of rubber on the shaft and another plier on the nut and got it loose. Thanks again for the upload!

So good!! I just did this repair on my 3000 model and it worked great! Cheers! Also for anyone who is planning to do the repair you can just slice the stickers along the case seam instead of removing them :)

Same problem with my Dremel 3000 broken copper wire. I just unfurled half turn off the copper spool and that gave me more than enough copper wire to work with. It is up and running again thanks for the video.

Great video, wish I would have checked this out before I stripped it down, and put it back together again. Thanks, I couldn’t see the break it until I moved the wire.

Great video thanks. Mine just stopped working, so I did a quick google and found your video. I'm about to go back down the shed and have a look at it. Thanks for posting. I haven't even used mine a whole lot yet, but it is handy for those jobs when nothing else will do.

Great, fixed mine same fault but I think you were lucky yours worked fist time and without a continuity check because the copper winding wire is insulated (has to be as its wound together touching the strand next to it) and so it is coated with a resin or something, I put it back together and nothing. When I had another look I continuity tested across the two clips and it was open circuit, I removed the clip again and ran some sandpaper over the new end and I reinserted it and I had continuity this time, you need to remove the coating from the end that is in contact with the clip, you can demo this to yourself by just putting your meter probes onto the wingdings or even on the wires running up to the clips, you will get no reading because of the insulation. Anyway, its all working now, so great video thanks
