Thankyou, i love your tutorials, they are never dull or boring but very clear, creative, entertaining and enlightening. I am not a quilter more of a general craft sewer. I started one more than 20 years ago but the teacher chose the fabric with a rather dull and bland colour and pattern, she said it would do as it was our first time but I never liked it and never finished putting it together. After I retired I took it to a UFO class and this teacher was amazing, she saw a tiny speck of bright colour in the overall pattern and matched it with another fabric which brought my dull old quilt to life and i finished it. I am now very proud of my first quilt that took over 20 years to make and watching you inspires me to try again.....but I would have to be a bit faster this time 😂😂😂 so thankyou from Australia 🇦🇺

July 30, 2023. I inherited 20 Dresden Plate blocks. They are from the 1930’s and I want to use them in gift quilts to share with family. No centers, they were pieced by my grandmother with a treadle sewing machine.
@suzisaintjames
@suzisaintjames 4 ай бұрын
What a treasure! Fun fact: Usually the centers get appliquéd onto the plates after the plates are appliquéd to the background, so I'm not surprised since the centers are the last step in completing the blocks before joining into rows and quilting. It's a design choice to see how the plates look all together and the choosing a fabric for the center. (The background and the centers are the things that unite everything into a cohesive and beautiful quilt. Sending lots of love 💖 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵. Take care of yourself and each other 😷.

For the circle: Hoop no show mesh with the sticky side up. Lay a square of fabric on the mesh, right side down. Embroider the size circle you want (matching the fabric/mesh) Take out of hoop when done. Now trim a cut in the mesh and turn the thing inside out, so the right side of fabric is showing, and the sticky side of the mesh is on the bottom. Squeeze the edges so they make a nicely finished circle. Now iron it in place and stitch around it as normal.

I really enjoyed watching this, I learned a lot. I'm going to start glue basting, my fingers will thank me I am sure. When you sewed the Dresden down you sewed around the center circle and around the tops of the blades, you did not stitch down the sides of the blades though. Is that something that you did off camera or don't you do it? Is that a step that is covered when the quilt is quilted?

Lisa 400 Dresden pieces divided by charm packs with 42 pieces and 2 pieces per charm would be 4.4761 charm packs for the Dresden's alone plus what ever charm pieces you would need for the 9 blocks. I have watched this before so I know you have said you could use a piece that you didn't really like or a solid for the middle square.. The only question I can think of is how many blocks are in this all together? I am not sure I caught that amount. Or were the 400 pieces the charm packs themselves of which 2 Dresden's were cut from each charm and then the rest used as the 9 patches? I that is the case it wouldn't take 9.523 charm packs containing 42 pieces.
