‪@RiverBasserDrew‬ finished Day 1 of the Bassmaster Kayak Series Tournament on the Susquehanna River, catching a five fish total of smallmouth bass totaling 90 inches, and landing in 12th place. But all of that changes once day two totals start adding to day one. Follow along, learn some tournament tactics and river smallmouth patterns and see how Drew ended the cumulative tournament.
One unique note on this day: the fabridam (an inflatable dam in Sunbury, Pennsylvania) was deflated on day 2, leading to some incredible totals. Any rise causes intense feeding activity. Pulling the plug on one of the Susquehanna's biggest tubs of water triggered a chaotic feeding frenzy of huge river smallmouth! Hold on tight, it's a wild ride of 18.75 inchers being tossed aside because they no longer helped!

Riddle me this.... How does a fish know what the temp is on the other side since he's not there????
@TheLittleStuff
@TheLittleStuff 8 ай бұрын
It doesn’t know. But water temperature has bearing on how fast or slow your presentation is. It tells you if you should fish tight to wood or mostly the deeper water with slower current.
@RiverBasserDrew
@RiverBasserDrew 8 ай бұрын
Actually, "it might know" in the sense that we as humans have learned that if we stand against a wall that is in the sun, and blocking the wind, it will be warmer than being out in the wind and/or under a shaded tree. And like Jeff said, if nothing else that water warms a little quicker and they may a little more active on that side of the river in those rare transition months when the water temp and a few degrees could make the difference.

13 Fishing Fate V3. 7'6 for long casts but at one point (not sure it made the edit) I made some comments I should have brought some 7'1's for those tighter casts under the trees but the 7'6 was better for Day 1's long casts with the Choppo and the long casts across the heads of islands on day 2. 🙌

Greg Blanchard refers to the FOS as a Kicker Fish.
@RiverBasserDrew
@RiverBasserDrew 8 ай бұрын
Yeah that is a common phrase that bass fisherman use...but I feel like "kicker" really refers to one (or maybe two) true giants as opposed to FOS is just any fish that you can still be happy with, or live with, being anywhere on your 5 fish stringer if that makes sense? haha

Think I’ve ask this before but can’t remember why does drew use a net ??
@TheLittleStuff
@TheLittleStuff 8 ай бұрын
He feels that it’s clutter. He fishes with multiple rods out in front of him on a fairly narrow kayak. I think he’s nuts for not having the net as a tool to scoop up those barely hooked treble hooked fish, but he plays them well, really well. He makes it work.
@RiverBasserDrew
@RiverBasserDrew 8 ай бұрын
You also have to realize that I use straight braid and despite seeing me use a topwater treble hook bait on day 1 I use large single hook baits 90% of the time with my "style" that I've developed for tournament fishing. Spinnerbaits, Chatterbaits, Swimbaits, Jigs etc and they RARELY ever come off when you hammer them on straight braid. Usually they're fought quickly (saves time), boat flipped in, on board and back in water super fast. And yes it does de-clutter my kayak with one less thing, but I've also lost fish trying to net them be it the net knocks the bait out or when reaching for the net the fish jumps or goes under a log etc and I was focused on reaching back for a net etc...I really don't think it affects my style but if I were fishing with small trebles I would bring one (and oscassionaly do!) Good comment/question! 👍

Yes, straight braid. It's a style I've developed for rivers that fits my personality and fast paced fishing - spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, swimbaits, jigs etc. Almost always 90% of the time use large single hook moving baits. Lose less fish, can use straight braid (better hookups, feel, landing ratio etc). Even when throwing the occasional treble hook topwater I like straight braid and they don't see the line on the surface so you can go up to 40 or 50lb test if you want to. I usually throw 30...I feel it casts a little further and I use it for all the other baits so keeps it all consistent. MH action on the rods.
