Being on the road almost half of the time means that I am always looking for new water to explore along the way. This particular smallmouth fishery in Virginia is along my drive from home to the ‪@boonedoxusa241‬ headquarters in North Carolina. I've been eyeing it on recent drives, and decided to take five hours and explore one section below a dam. This video shows the process of exploration.

Hey Jeff thanks for all your content man , it’s quality stuff and this channel deserves to be much bigger. I just got my first kayak about a month ago and I’m also new to fishing. The knowledge I’ve gained from your videos has helped me out a ton and I’m landing more and bigger fish out here in the Kentucky creeks. I hope to do an inflatable build one day.

I love that your critical concepts can apply to vastly different water bodies. We don't have any dams like that around me so normally the only current/volume factor is precipitation, BUT many of the smaller creeks, ditches, and marshes I fish which are connected to Lake Erie have currents effected daily by wind and the (almost negligible) lake tides. Throughout the day, most of the streams that empty into the lake, even the major named creeks, have backflow pushing upstream. Sometimes this backflow can be ripping fast, nearly too fast to paddle against, and a few hours later the flow will reverse to a gentle downstream direction. The big rivers generally don't change flow direction like this since they have so many more tributaries and drains connected. Your lessons are always appreciated and I hope you have you a good trip, Jeff!

Clear Lake in California (and upcoming video) had wind generated current in one of the creeks we fished. Erie is ocean-like for sure.

It got the striper moving. I think that it’s so regular that it’s not the same impact as a natural rise.

I’m am glad you were able to stop on way down to GA. The cows were cool just chilling out. Still glad you caught 5! Also I would never be able to get my Nucanoe back up those steps. I would have unload my gear. Maybe back in High School. Catch you soon brother. Hoping your travels are going ok.

I’m seriously considering a winch or pulley. The raft guys use pulleys all the time at access points.

@@TheLittleStuffyou got me thinking. Utilize one that goes in the hitch of the truck. Run 12v from battery and all good. I like it. Maybe we can throw a Boonedox sticker on it. I get 10 percent commission 😂

Do you use the spinning rods on moving baits because they let you throw at any angle from any position?
@TheLittleStuff
@TheLittleStuff 2 ай бұрын
Not sure why. I have 8 rods with me on this trip. 5 spinning and 3 baitcasters. It’s nice to switch between the two in order to reduce hand/wrist fatigue from many casts over hours when power fishing.
