This system gets quite annoying when dealing with data. Sometimes I have a European system generating the data and need to process it using an English (or American) program, which requires replacing commas with dots. This is also why you don't use decimal separators in data, since these are dots in continental numbers, and commas in English ones. An extra ctrl + F step is annoying enough.

Yup same in France ,right of the bat when the € was adopted ,there was a +30% inflation on average,then a year after the € was adopted there was an additional +20% (So a total of +56%) Like for example ,the price of baguette did a +1900% and the price of potatoes did a +4000% Usually when a country change currency ,100 of the old currency will be equal to 1 of the new currency ,but here since every country had it's own currency ,it wasn't possible to do so business profited by inflating their price since consumer would need to bring a calculator to see real price and almost nobody was willing to do that anyways . Then there is something else ,when multiple country use the same currency ,there is an outflow and an inflow of money ,between the adoption (By the respective country) and 2018 ,German gain 22 Trillions ,Netherlands gain 20 Trillions and Greece gain 20 Billions (They are the only country that benefitted from the euro ,per capita ,the Netherlands is the one who benefitted the most) while all other lost money (France was the biggest loser with 20 Trillions ,Italy in 2nd ,losing 18 Trillions and Spain in 3rd losing 14 Trillions) And it's not data that can be seen on the GDP (Well there is still a part than is still reflected on the GDP ,Germany gain 3,5 Trillions ,the Netherlands gain 2,8 Trillions ,Greece gain 2 Billions while Italy lost 4,4 Trillions (So like losing 260 Billions yearly) ,France lost 4 Trillions ,Spain lost 2,5 Trillions ,Portugal lost 400 Billions ,Belgium lost 100 Billions) These data stop in 2018 so now it's even worse .

The Euro was the biggest scam in european history. The "Deutsche Mark" (german currency before the euro) was one of the strongest currencies (besides the dollar) and overnight prices changed from 100% to almost 200% (they just put the same number with a different currency symbol on the price tags). While salary/wages were left untouched (dropping by almost 50%). Which resulted in a buying power of 25% (!) compared to the previous currency.

What currency you use does not matter if you do all the GDP comparisons in the same currency (usually the US dollar). It is just that before the Euro, Italy was more able to manipulate the numbers to look better than it really was, together with a lot of low cost production shifting to Asia where the cheap stuff used to be made in Italy.
