The Dr. Gundry Podcast

The Dr. Gundry Podcast

3 жыл бұрын

Everybody knows that walking is good for you - right?
But could walking actually be better for you than heading to the gym, lifting weights… or even running? Well, the answer may surprise you. You see, science shows that living a healthier, happier life takes MORE than just talking the talk. It actually takes walking the walk - literally.
And in just a minute, you’re going to learn why. On this episode of the Dr. Gundry Podcast, I’ll be speaking with the author, neuroscientist and bonafide walking expert, Shane O’Mara.
Shane is a professor of experimental brain research and the author of the new book In Praise of Walking: A New Scientific Exploration.
On this episode, Shane and I discuss why walking is one of the best forms of exercise there is, how it can benefit your posture, protect your organs, support “reversed aging”, and so much more.
On this episode you’ll learn:
03:00 4 ways SITTING can destroy your health - and the simple trick for reversing the damage
05:00 Why you don’t actually need 10,000 steps a day (and the REAL “step goal” you should strive for)
06:30 How I unintentionally lost 50 pounds in ONE year - and how you can do the same
09:30 5 SIMPLE ways to get more steps in - without even realizing it
10:30 What walking does to your BRAIN - and why it’s one of the BEST tools for creativity
13:00 How to “age BACKWARDS” physically and mentally (it’s quick, free, and super simple)
17:00 The TRUTH about walking vs. running when it comes to your health (and what you NEED to know if you do both)
18:30 How to walk for cardiovascular health vs. problem solving (yes, you need two totally different techniques!)
20:20 The “energy snacks” I swear by for curbing any craving, boosting my productivity, and bringing out my creative side (hint - it’s not in your kitchen)
22:00 Why walking at THIS time of day gives you a double-dose of health benefits
30:00 The “movement trick” to DRAMATICALLY reducing your risk of developing depressive disorder and dementia
45:40 The difference between the lectins in nightshade fruits and their leaves - and whether or not they’re safe to eat

Plant paradox is changing my life. I have had gut issues for years. My complaints fell on deaf ears with my physicians. 28 days on plant paradox I have no more reflux, no stomach inflammation, my joints feel better, I sleep better. I have lost 5 pounds but it looks like 10. I am thrilled. Now I will walk.

I got addicted to walking 38 yrs ago. Now I do 15 min. 'senior' Tai Chi, followed by a 15 min 'stretch' video. I usually do a targeted exercise video for arms, core or legs and boot, too. Then I walk! I give credit to walking...I don't think I'd be motivated to do all that if it weren't for walking! .If I'm watching TV, I do a Wendy Ida video during commercials...they're only 3-5 min long, so they fit in between segments nicely! It makes me feel so good, I can't get enough! I'm 68.

2,000 steps average per mile. An average person has a stride length of approximately 2.1 to 2.5 feet. That means that it takes over 2,000 to walk one and 10,000 would be almost 5 . A sedentary person may only average 1,000 to 3,000 a day.

I love to walk at the beach. But walking, on the pavement, in a city, with the polluter air. With tennis shoes made of plastic ? ? ? If I am in the city, I do prefer go up and down the stairs as many times as posible. Yea, I passes around while on the phone. As a teacher I am walking constantly in my classroom, I do seat at luch time and that's it.

They are mineral tissue deposits, mostly calcium. Drinking every day water with a spoon of apple cider vinegar can help, the malic acid helps to disolve them. Then you need collagen plus magnesium so that calcium will stick back to your bones.

Eat 20g of *net* carbs, 30 g of protein and moderate amount of fat and you won't need even lift a finger for weight drop. Of course you still need at least some walking for muscles, veins etc. Our great ancestors apes wouldn't sit whole day on chair They would instead move around big part of day jumping on trees in the jungle and collecting those 7-10 cups of their foods
