It just goes to show that as long as the art direction of the game is relatively simple and doesn't overcomplicate its visual effects, games can upscale very nicely. Thanks to relatively simple texture work, all three of the games shown don't suffer from severe artifacting or roughness.

4:29 You can really tell these games were designed around 480p. At original res, this scene looks like a jumbled mess of bolts and junk, but at 4K that look is almost completely lost and everything looks much more organized.

You got the two sides of the video wrong at 6:40 , in that particular scene the left side is the 4k one...

Even in 4K the Jak and daxter side looks blurry, might be some glitched filter or something, have you experiemented with using skip draw or something to get rid of the blur?

I can only imagine the look of games like Baldur's Gate : Dark Alliance or Champions of Norrath...

If you truly wanna tell the difference, record the game in windowed 480p. Having it upscaled doesn't do this video justice besides the jagged lines

The difference between these games and other ps2 games, is you could release these as brand new titles and they’d feel like current day games. Especially jak 1, the fluidity of movement was something else. Some people might not agree that these are there choice for the title of best ps2 games, which I understand considering how many amazing ps2 games there actually were, but you can’t deny these games were way ahead of there time. And they hold up amazingly(especially jak, that’s why it keeps getting remastered.)

For some reason, I feel like 1080p is more than enough for PCSX2. You know, to make it look like the PS3 remasters. 4K is good for experimental reasons, but I really wouldn't consider it for a PS2 emulator.

Why have you disabed texture filtering? this is inacurate... Which de-interlacing mode are you using? Probably auto it seems blend, try Bob (or even none) it's better when it doesn't shake ;)

It's not Native 480p when you fuck up the aspect ratio. Also, some other things got fucked up in the 4K Sly footage, which I was kind of expecting.

480p on a VGA PC CRT would look comparable to 1080p on an LCD

4k is a bit stupendous for old games but I suppose it illustrates how shit the actual resolution is on the original hardware which is not really the biggest issue, the biggest issue on consoles is the fucking framerate and the obnoxious framedrops, emulators are just vastly better because they can maintain steady 60 or even 120fps although majority of console games break once you go over 60, sadly. Even with only 720p resolution on the emulator it still looks way better than it does on native hardware another thing is output methods, composite is absolutely cancer, component is the best and RGB that we Europeans have done it for decades so depending on simply the cable you had at hand the games can look remarkably different.
