Thanks for the video, but there is no need to remove the esc or the receiver box. You can fit the screw driver between the motor and the esc to remove the screws. Then rotate the motor away to slide the spur out.

Yeah, I did this twice last night. Hardest part about that is keeping the esc wire from getting in the way.

That is a very good video but I need to see how you made the pin stay in place next to the rubber Crown shaped grommet and the plastic grooved washer without moving so you can put the screws back in.??? Thanks

Just happen to me yesterday. I may go with the metal spur when I replace it. Motor must of got loose from landings.

Is there any way to keep dirt/sand from getting in the spur gear? I was looking at dusty motors shrouds but some people say it causes temp issues

Thanks for the time you took but you don’t need to remove esc or radio box. The spacer isn’t needed either, a good cap head screw with washer will hold it. Quad flips and all. Good video to show some how to tear down top of truck though.

I was able to change my spur fear last night without removing the esc. It slides out without removing the esc. I also didn’t have to move the receiver box at all. Took me only a few mins. It doesn’t look like the space is there to slide it out but it will work as long as you rotate the motor out of the way.

Driftomaniacs because I didn’t know what I needed to remove in order to replace it so I started with this video. Once I realized I didn’t have to do everything he did and I got it replaced, I posted about it. Can save someone else the 10 mins I saved and the materials. If they follow the steps he laid out in the video, it will also work. The blog space should be used to add additional tips / provide thanks. If his video helped me find a better way to do it, shouldn’t I share it. I wouldn’t have found this better way without the video so it was helpful for sure. My comment was not a dis to his video. What value did your comment add for this video would be my retort. If you didn’t like or understand the comment, just ignore it.

If your just.doing the spur gear you can just loosen the 4 screws that hold the trans and remove the cover and it will move enough to sway the gear

When I went to change my spur gear, I found the ESC wire beneath the motor almost completely shredded by the spur gear

xXLaserXx when reinstalling the spur and pinion gear cover be sure to put the cover on and make sure the esc wires are on the other side of the shield, I almost did this myself

You don't need to remove the ESC. just dismantle the cush drive and you can get the gear off.

I would say it's far harder to remove the esc because of the tape. The screws on the spur is not that hard to get, just rotate the spur so you can get them.

You're doing it the hard way. If you loosen the 3mm screws from underneath you can the lift the spur assembly enough and wiggle the spur gear in or out without the need to remove ESC. Look at the exploded view of the truck to see the screws I'm talking about.

I watched the video because I was bored, but my boredom turned to amazement as I watched someone with an RC channel practically disassemble his truck to change a spur gear. The irony is the use of the word "easily" in the description. Anyhow, I hope I've taught you and your viewers something.

@@DriftomaniacsRC Also no need to remove so much of the cush drive assembly. Just the 3 screws that hold the spur in will do. This can also be done without removing the ESC. However, replacing the Traxxas double sided tape with something thicker is a great idea. No need to remove the top of the ESC either.

Rc move spur cover Remove motor adjuster bolt Remove 3 spur screws Remove 4 transmission screws You can now remove the spur. It takes some wiggling, but it can be done. Might be easier with a 3rd hand, but I did it by myself. Might not have to remove the trans screws as someone else said.

Sorry man, didn't mean to offend. If I post here, people will see it cause your video is a top hit when searched. Last time I tried to upload a video to help people out, KZfaq decided to not let it be posted. On a side note, traditionally it was common to change gears "at the track" to adjust for different conditions, so I assumed the vehicle would have been designed with that in mind.

You only need to remove the 3 non flush screws to pull the spur off.
