SW: A New Hope (Edit yes I got the name wrong, I get it, thank you, I was talking about the first movie in the new trilogy, I just got off work and was mindlessly tired, cut me some slack) was the movie where I decided Ud never trust the critics of the site, and would only occasionally even check it for anything. @@MnemonicHack The problem with Lightyear is that it's a bland, mediocre movie who costed way too much for what it was. The most 5/10 animated movie I've seen outside of some kiddie, direct to DVD/streaming movies, but this one was on theaters were it really didn't belong. Can't even say the animation was that good, yes the level of detail in the texturas is neat, but outside of that, it has nothing going for it. It's not a bad BAD movie, mind you, and if you liked it then more power to you, but coming from motherflipping Pixar? Unacceptable, specially if, again, we consider how much it costed to make

I think so, and if you were an investor in one of the studios involved in this, you could start organizing a class action lawsuit. But the whole process of determining liability will take a long time, a lot of people will claim ignorance, and the studios have very powerful lawyers. The most juicy target here would be the big studios, and they're also the hardest target. Like, good luck going after Disney, they'll fight this for 10+ years, but are OBVIOUSLY deceiving the public's reviews and likely the box office sales, metrics that investors use to determine production quality and therefore the company's financial health.

You'll have to be a bit sensitive about what they _don't_ say about the game, though. Audience score for Barbie is 83%. I saw it. It was a lot of fun. The "message" was maybe 5% of the movie but it took up about three quarters of the Drinker's review. Of course that's what his audience wants to focus on so that's what he gave them. I'm all for calling out pandering to Hollywood but I'm also not going to pretend that someone with almost 2 million subscribers on youtube, enough to earn a living, is also somehow not immune to pandering to whatever makes him money. If you're going to make a video on that subject at least have the honesty to self reflect on how you too are "influenced" by the same thing you are criticizing.

There's something I noticed with RT's audience score for the Willow show. While eps were coming out, the score was consistently in the 30s-40s and therefore "rotten". Then some time later, I saw that it had magically been raised to the 70s and thus was now "fresh". Highly suspicious, especially as the show definitely did not have a surge of appreciative viewers after it's initial run. In fact, it was so badly received that they eventually just removed it from Disney+, lol.

@@stephenmartland-buck9590 Yes, he is definitely a smart guy with a keen mind for story telling, but he also has a bias and sometimes omits key facts about movies than don't fit his narrative. Well, and his Picard S03 review was definitely part of a large KZfaq marketing campaign (as were Nerdrotic's reviews, and Dave Cullen's and Cato's, etc.). One thing people don't mention often is how they categorize reviews (Drinker actually mentions this at 10:40). Meaning how they decide if a review is 'fresh' or 'rotten'. I remember when Man Of Steel came out, a British newspaper gave the film 3/5, with a review that suggested that it was ok with some problems. RT labelled that review 'rotten'. So, of course, if they do that a lot it will really affect the overall rating/percentage.

Well, I’m putting the burden of lousy movies back on you. It’s very simple: if you stop going to bad movies, they’ll stop making bad movies. If the movie used to be a TV show, just don’t go. After Roman numeral II, give it a rest. If it's a remake of a classic, rent the classic. Tell them you want stories about people, not a hundred million dollars of stunts and explosives. And more recently, Indiana Jones 5 had a negative score with a consensus such as (paraphrasing) "There's a nostalgic rush seeing harrison ford back in the role, but it's an unnecessary addition to the franchise". But then eventually the scores turned into a more positive version of that.

I'm dealing with the review nonsense on my indie film that was released in Aug. It can be very difficult to get reviewers to pay attention to small indie films due to the sheer volume of movies being released. I have a critic friend who gets dozens of requests from indie distributors a week. The only way to get certified critics to review is to pay a PR company, who will then pay them to get the reviews, which will then let you get the stupid red tomato. The red tomato is important for an indie because an average audience member (and importantly, foreign buyers) don't know the difference on this stuff. They want to see the red tomato to justify the time investment to sit down and watch the thing.
