There's practically a switch on Strymon Bluesky right next to the reverb-type switch that says "Norm / Mod / Shimmer" and Ryan obviously has it on Mod-mode, which gives you MODULATED spring reverb. Maybe that would explain the "chorus-like effect", maybe :D Just hit the switch back to "Norm" and it's gone. I hope no-one ditches Bluesky as a relevant reverb pedal option because of poorly prepared videos like this. At least check out the knobs and switches first before hitting rec on your camera. Makes things lot more informative and at least a bit more accurate.

I mean I noticed it my myself I saw that Bluesky was on the mod and not the norm setting. What else could it be? It's not so hard to figure it out.

Get a zoom! I would love to see you demo it for all its effects. So the knobs are used for the settings of each effect and if you click the far right knob it will take you through all the knobs options as sometimes theres more than 3. (sometimes 3 pages of knobs to tweak on a single effect)

Nice demo Ryan! I think I prefer the Oceans 11 and the MXR or Fender BlueSky tied for 2nd. Love your Surf playing. Not big on heavy distortion. Mild overdrive or crunch is okay, but I really like the clean with reverb. Cheers!

7:52 you were on modulation mode, you had to turn the mode switch up to turn the chorus off

I have an old plastic Aria digital reverb that does a weird, low-bit, scattered thing past about 1 o’clock on the mix. Especially when the pre-delay is cranked. I love it, I run it before my Memory Man with the Oceans after. It rules. That makes me want to get a Holy Grail Nano.

nice! yeah theres some glitch noisy potential with that holy grail, i still wonder if there was something uniquely wrong with that one i was using though. I don't remember them having that cascading clicking sound.

Do they have reverb pedals that have several types of reverb and you can mix them together, and get some major beyond infinity drip? Seriously instead of just spring, how about pedals where you can mix spring and the other types too? Can you post a video up about it?

The zoom is definitely worth a look. A lot of the frilly FX are shite, pitch etc but the spring is really good. And there's a slapback spring too I think. You just need to learn how to add/remove FX blocks.

The zoom is excellent at shoegaze stuff, the 63 reverb for surf isn’t up to much though. Still think the oceans 11 is hard to beat for that

Hey Ryan, I realize that this is a super old thread, but should you happen to read this I wanted to let you know (and let the people know) that the Flint has Pre-Delay as a secondary function of the Color knob. Not the most intuitive move by Strymon, but you can adjust it. From the manual: Pre-Delay 1 Press and hold the REVERB ON footswitch to enter Live Edit mode. Once both LEDs flash, release the footswitch. 2 Turn the COLOR (PRE-DELAY) knob to turn the adjust the amount of Pre-Delay. The REVERB ON LED changes color to indicate your setting: • Minimum Pre-Delay time: left, GREEN (default) • Maximum Pre-Delay time: right, AMBER 3 Press the REVERB ON footswitch to exit

Hard to pick a favourite. I thought all of them were okay except the Holy Grail. They all sound quite different. A digital spring reverb pedal (and analog tremolo) to watch is the Milkman F-Stop - if it ever comes out. Thanks for the video.

What pedals will give the most super wet water dripping tone, instead of a click, more of a blooop tone, like how actual water drips, instead of a click. I want to find the wettest tones ever, like water actually dripping. I heard one instrumental one time but did not know who it was, that guitar had the best hugest wettest tone, ok, so which ones will help with that? Or do you need to stack 2 reverb pedals or what?

It’s called drip and traditionally it comes from the fender 6g15 outboard reverb unit. There are digital pedals that do that sound well like the source audio true spring and the UA golden. The ehx oceans 11 has a drip as well but it’s pretty harsh. Imo the best sounding option are the options from surfy bear, but they are pretty big due to having real spring pans in them. Hope that helps.

You should try out the Volante. It's got a spring reverb and you can use the Rec Level knob to drive up tape saturation and works well with as a dwell knob. I also setup two or three playback heads with one record in a short slapback effect with triplet spacing. What I like about it over the Bigsky is that it responds very well when I dig into the strings. I really feel the difference when that rec level is set up to 3 or 4.

the amount of Pre-delay on the Flint is adjustable. I don't know where it's set from the factory, but turning it all the way off does help a little.

Im disappointed you didn’t really try the zoom. I’ve had several boutique spring reverbs, digital, analog and real spring. And I really like the zoom. It is really really difficult to adjust on the fly, but I’m very happy with it. I’ve quit using a pedalboard and went with a Zoom MS50G and use 63 reverb, echoplex, and Tremolo on all the time. I’ve replaced $1500+ worth of pedals with a $100 pedal and I’m as happy with my tone as ever.

The EHX Holy Grail was my very first reverb pedal and now it pales in comparison to what's out there today. Not bad though, but mine sits, like a lot of people's, broken on a shelf from years of being underpowered by a voodoo lab that only put out 100mA per output. I suspect not many pedals back then had that high of a current draw, so finding an adequate power supply back then was difficult. Not the case today! Yay for that! \m/ (o o) \m/

Love your drip videos! How would you compare the Oceans 11 with the Source Audio True Spring? For me the 11 sounds very top endy and the SA more natural. But I keep swapping both on and off my board! Keep on keeping on 😎

i think if you want that edge of out of control bright spring sound the O-11 is the way to go, but if you want a tighter more traditional sound the true spring is better. I like trashy thrashy sounds so i tend to favor the O-11.

I absolutely love my MXR Reverb but it's definitely best for the weird things like the Mod, Pad and Epic settings over the more normal reverb types. From all the reverbs I've played you definitely got the right one with the Oceans 11. Only other contender without spending too much (imo) is the fantastic Keeley Caverns.

The zoom might need an update in the firmware and then you get a list on your computer showing you what effects are in the pedal and how much room you have to store more! It’s a simple pedal once you get understand it, I know I spent awhile struggling before I figured it out lol

I bought the O-11 after one of your earlier shoot-outs($148 on Amazon) and love it. I use it with a delay for a "Shadows" sound, too. Kudos, but aargh! Two minutes, if that, to TUNE UP. You were out of tune on other TGU19 demos, too. C'mon, man!

I’m going to guess Digitech has no marketing budget since they laid everyone off, that must have been at least a year ago now right? I love my Polara. I bought an Oceans 11 last year and hated it compared to the Polara. Luckily I was able to return it. They’re probably just selling off old stock.

its probably been said, but i was freaking out as you used the blue sky on the mod setting instead of normal. and then proceeded to not see the switch. i love you my man, much love, but if the switch was a snake, it would have bit you sir.
