All us boomer girls wanted a man who loved us like Bruce did in his songs. Sadly boomer men had a hard time filling that .Although as they got older our men have mellowed nicely, like you sir.

The River album is a delight....Bruce has stated that in it he wanted to capture life...the love, the anger, the joys, the tears, all the that gives us "the ties that bind" Bruce is the poet of my life.

The scene in the movie copland when she says to sylvester you know you can get this on cd and he replies it wouldn't matter to me! Playing this in the background! What a beautiful scene!

Oh man. The River is my favourite album of Bruce's. Its got so much on it. And this is the second last track and I daren't think how many times as a teenager I feel asleep to this playing. A C90 on my tape deck. I always found the 'shoes' line jarring but the whole song is perfect. On the same album Point Blank, Fade Away, Stolen Car, Independence Day are in that slower vibe. Looking forward to you covering more Bruce on your journey, so much to discover. Jungleland is the peak, New York City Serenade, Lost in the Flood, Sandy, Incident on 57th Street, Backstreets, Kittys Back, Racing in the Street, are all longer classic Bruce songs that aren't on the "hits" list.

Thanks for this. Try out “Stolen Car” off The River next. It will get you even harder.

Listen to Patty Griffin's version... It will wreck you. I loved his original version of it until I heard Patty sing it. Dear Lord have mercy.

Dax, i have an on again/off again relationship with Bruce's music. I grow weary after 2 or 3 songs. I own plenty of his albums but i have a difficult time sitting and listening to an entire album of his and i don't know why. I've still only listened to about 5 tracks from "Nebraska". He's a great writer and interpreter, But fatigues me. This is one of the few albums i can listen to start to finish. Thanks for the great reaction/review Tim in Amarillo...

Thanks Tim. I’m exactly the same way with Bruce. I don’t know if it’s monotony or his voice or what, but I can only usually enjoy one or two songs in a row. Thanks again.

@daXmusiX I think Freddy Mercury also throws his entiry soul when it comes to singing (love) songs. Like 'love of my life' and 'take my breath away'
