it's refreshing to have a car host to be honest about the negatives too. Most of the KZfaq won't say anything bad for fear of losing contacts

it got 3 points at the track review.. that's a dock in my opinion.. he even said they had to stop cause it went into limp mode due to overheating.. an nsx should get more then 3 for a track day, it's better then that stock for sure, not as fast as this, but for sure better then what amounts to practically nothing
@Jeff9691
@Jeff9691 7 жыл бұрын
SpecialKLSX probably correct, and you're right the street score should have been a little lower.. but the rest of the cars are straight track cars that are "street legal" so thats why it got the highest score.. for example the R32 didnt have air-con, radio, 3/4 of the interior.. things like that.. so out of the bunch its the most street car, minus the Mustang which is strictly a street car, not a track car
@Jeff9691
@Jeff9691 7 жыл бұрын
SpecialKLSX Well Matt said they fixed the issue after the test, and the "grandma test" isn't true.. Some people to enjoy touring style driving.. they wouldn't include it in the test, if they didn't have to be road legal on road tires if it was irrelevant.. if not it would be tow them to a track.. put em on slicks.. and see whats up
@sigmaprojects
@sigmaprojects 7 жыл бұрын
Matt responded above saying for regular road driving it was fixed quickly and they drove it a lot and he said it was great. If it wasn't going into limp mode I imagine it would have been much faster on the track and not so far down on points.

Matt has always been honest in his reviews and sometimes get a lot of shit from brand fans. Like when he a few years back asked how people even could compare a Cadillac with the German premiums when the cabin quality is so obviously sub par. A lot of people called him anti US and "hater" of US brands or hater of GM. That despite him having a Corvette and other US cars. But everybody else, not bias to GM or Cadillac, knew this fact and we agreed with him. He says it as it is, even on the smoking tire he tell the owners if he thinks their modifications have not worked. I've always respected him for being honest. His review of Tesla model S is probably the only review where we get an honest review of the car, and hear about the cars shortcomings. Not like most auto journalists that kiss Tesla's ass all the time.

No excuse for not preparing for such conditions. Heat management is the MOST important factor for a successful track car. Being fast inconsistently versus being consistently fast is a big difference.

However this NSX wasn't built to be a track car, which I know it doesn't excuse the issue but it definitely helps explain it. This car is a marketing flagship for Clarion, and Clarion Builds, so they probably really just focused on street dynamics, which based on their score awarded to the NSX for road use, they succeeded. There's not a whole lot of marketing potential for a stereo company to build a track only car so its not that surprising that a mid engine supercharged car was having some heat issues in the most extreme of conditions. Just my .02

Blue Euphoria The new nsx is gorgeous in my opinion. Both old and new are jaw dropping and stupid quick. People need to stop living in the past and stop listening to every thing Motortrend says, and respect the new NSX for what it is, like how it's predecessor is respected for what it is.

I know where you coming from but the New NSX should of been revolutionary like the old one. I understand major change from the old one was needed. I also know that the hybrid system and the new technology is cool but it was too much. Heavier then most super cars in the same price range. I just hope Honda makes major changes but keep the exterior design.

So sad to see the comment sections on this wonderful review series. I think it's very well put together and mostly stays objective enough to form a proper opinion unless you as a watcher are a huge fan of one of these cars in particular. Shows you how you can't please the internets whatever you do. Personally I enjoy this comparison a lot and wish to see more of this in the future since there is no US/JP/EU bias like some other outlets clearly demonstrate. Keep it up, Matt!

Boost is boost and either one makes more heat than N/A engine. There is a reason N/A engines are more common in road racing.
@Beer_Dad1975
@Beer_Dad1975 7 жыл бұрын
Just needs a suitable charge cooling system - a decent sized intercooler + maybe a sprayer for this kind of weather & hard driving, & maybe extra oil cooling too if the engine itself is overheating. It's all stuff that can be fixed.
@BlueRice
@BlueRice 7 жыл бұрын
@matthew sharpe remember the outside temp can reached at 80c in a normal day. with all those is not going to help with overspun s/c for that small size. you just going to need a bigger s/c to give less heat for same power.
@Beer_Dad1975
@Beer_Dad1975 7 жыл бұрын
BlueRice 80c? I think if it was that hot out you'd be more concerned about being dead and cooked to medium-well than pre-detonation in your engine. Seriously though even in 40c+ intake temperatures you can engineer suitable induction cooling - but yes, you are right a larger s/c spinning at a lower speed will generate less heat.
@joeracer302
@joeracer302 7 жыл бұрын
Matthew Sharpe It's true that with proper cooling systems you can have good performance and get an engine to last a race, but for those who want to get the most track time without having to rebuild their engine frequently it is best to stick to N/A engines. Again, this is why the majority of cars designed for track use are N/A. Porsche 911 GT3, Cayman GT4, Camaro Z/28, Shelby GT350, the C6 Z06 and now C7 Grandsport (arguably the current Z06 is not really a good track car ... see all the reviews with it overheating on track, which kind of proves my point again). ... But when you look at the race cars that have turbo engines they are supported by factory backed teams and multi-million dollar budgets for each season. N/A engines are the gold standard for reliable road racing. Always have been, and always will be.

my first concern when thinking of a track setup is cooling, that taken care of and all other things fall into place for engine management. second would be suspension and tires, without that you can have all the power in the world and the car would not be fun at all to take to its limit. Always built prefer handling and reliability to power out put.

TheSmokingTire This whole series is based on shops running what they built and they should be scored objectively. It doesn't matter if the shop fixed the misfire, it happened during testing and should be reflected in its scoring. If you're going to give it a full score then it should be the case for any car that breaks down - because any one of these tuners can stop to fix an issue and get back to testing. It's like saying a tuned car is a great driver, as long as it's working properly...not much credibility behind that rationale, right?

An NSX that stuck to the original model's philosophy would probably sell like hotcakes.

Fun fact: The original NSX adjusted for inflation would have an MSRP of about 120k.

sounds like the intake temps are indeed too high, and the feul rail isnt able to keep up with the heat. meaning its running too lean.

What kind of moron underdrives a supercharger to the point that it is beyond the range specified by the compressor map and doesn't add some form of charge cooling? They should have fitted a water/methanol injection system.

this car is near perfect, it just need a little more power like 800+ hp so it can hold its on, on the streets cause 400hp can feel really slow against these new mustangs, and camaros

Doubling the hp is way more than "a little more power"

Dexter Sullen it already has problems with handling 400hp. doubling that would be a really bad idea

Stev3 i agree 450 550hp is a sweet spot this car in my opinion its light and agile and it looks so sweet especially the rear deck

At 800 hp It probably wouldn't have made a full lap.

Dexter Sullen Wow 800hp? Keep in mind that the engine isn't made to do these numbers and it wouldn't last long, also its a lot more important to put its power down effectively and handle corners well so its fun to drive. Mustangs and Camaros are way heavier and most of the time don't exceed 500hp.
