Door handle replacement applies to the 4 door 03-07 accord. I have trim color F and a 2005 accord EX. I am replacing part number 72160SDAA02ZD. I highly recommend a door panel tool that I show at the beginning to remove the handle without destroying the plastic clips. I was not very careful in this video because I was replacing the assembly... because the OEM chrome was peeling

Very helpful video - thanks for posting. I couldn't figure out how to remove the small clip that attaches the cable to the back side of the door handle. Your video addressed that at the 1:00 minute mark. Perfect!

The video technically is what needs to be done but good luck getting that tensioner out of that metal clip with tool or by hand it would not budge. I had to like in the video remove the screw and remove the metal clip from the new handle and just reuse the old one. Also you have very little room so make sure you use a screwdriver or bit that has a magnetic tip so you don't drop the screw. Also at the very beginning the handle will not just pop out like in this video mine was a bit harder to remove it should be noted that the tabs holding it in are on the handle only and you will not damage anything connected to the door so if you need to pry it with a bit more force feel free to do so, keep in mind you do not want to scuff or mark up you car interior. Also the new handle I bought is after market so the cable end that pops into the new handle was much much tighter so I put a little bit of lithium grease on it just to be certain it could rotate if needed. Lastly the retainer clip on the new handle was not that flip floppy and required using a pair of needle nose pliers to rotate it downward and snap on over the cable end. Just a few things for those who watch this video might need as the video makes it look like the handle pops out with ease, the retaining clip and tensioner will just pop off with no effort etc. It might take you 25 minutes to complete this job.

+Mike Name Yes I was recording the video one handed so I had popped off the handle once before, but honestly it wasn't much harder than shown here. The tool I shows really helped over a plan screw driver. Good advice about a magnetic bit, you don't want to have to take off the door panel and the dirt and water shield. I also used an after market handle, got it from the popular auction site. Wow I forgot how shakey this video is, I tried the stabilizer thing in youtube and it make the video look like it was filmed by a camera in a tank of water. Thanks for watching

Awesome video! I had no idea where to even start. I watched your video a couple of times then went out a changed the handle in what seemed like 5 minutes! Thanks so much for taking your time to do this - you're are great instructor!

Thank you for this video. I was able to remove the old handle and connect the new one, but cannot get the new one back on. It's too tight. I'm going to have to bring it into a shop to get it done. So frustrating, it looks sooo easy in the video!

Those little green things always tend to break and snap every time you take off the door panels on the 03-07 accords and then u end up needing to buy a replacement door cable from the dealership so it’s nice that you don’t have to remove the door panel for this

Thank you. Worked Great. I had trouble screwing back in the plate. The screw and plate had to match up perfectly. Took me 5 tries to get those to meet up and engage. ****To insert the handle casing back into place I had difficulty. I started with the back as the author mentioned. However, it wasn't until I engaged the back (rear of car), BOTTOM section first that I could slide the rest into place and snap it in.

I just replaced my 2007 accord handle. In your video it looks like the green head on cable was below fork. I had a heck of a time pushing green head back onto U shaped fork. I unscrewed metal fork and put original on and it popped right on. Putting handle back in was much more difficult than I expected. My dad used brute force and it popped on. Thanks for guide. Something to note. The plastic is like butter so be careful flexing and pushing new handle and wire on. It will bend and scratch super easy

Glad you got it taken care of, you are right it is a little hard to see and happy to hear this was somewhat useful to you. Good idea just swapping the metal fork, they must have been slightly different sizes and you are exactly right the plastic was much softer than what you would expect and I imagine crimping it would cause the cable to be tight. The green head on the cable had raised shoulders on both ends on mine and the metal fork had to be inserted in between...sounds like they slightly revised over the years. Cheers

Great video. What is the tool you used to pry the handle piece off of the door?
@BigMontanaful
@BigMontanaful 7 жыл бұрын
It it called a trim removal tool or a panel removal tool, the plastic ones are less likely to mark up the interior but they are not as sharp. Sorry for taking a long time to reply, I thought google would have notified me when questions were asked

Thanks a lot for that video, it was useful! Unfortunately, I was too hard on the little green plastic and broke it, so now I have to replace the cable as well. Any tips on avoiding that in the future?
@davidwatson4116

To replace the cable I believe you have to pull the whole panel and might need to remove the waterproofing plastic underneath, that can be a lot harder job than it looks on TV which is why lots of people just cut it off. I am guessing with heat cycles and time these green things only get weaker, design wise it is hard to get that piece off without torquing it any. I have had success fixing something similar to your issue with Surgu , check for stock online at local big stores like target. FYI the packages have a use before date, using before the date is important if you want a stable end product

i looked at the door today and it turns out the green plastic part was snapped apart so does this mean I have to replace the door handle cable if so any instructional videos on how to do it?
@BigMontanaful
@BigMontanaful 8 жыл бұрын
A bit more complex. You are absolutely right it would require taking the door apart and replacing the cable to get a new green "positioner" or what appears to be called an "outside bushing handle" (ebay has pics that look close but not exact) like it was off the lot without some creating engineering. If it were me I would try to hack it first before replacing the cable, I would not be super thrilled about taking the plastic sheeting down from behind the door. So what I would do is figure out a way to replace the function, but not the green piece itself, or maybe you can find the green piece online or in a junkyard. I believe the function is to prevent the cable from rubbing against the plastic of the handle and digging into it, secondarily keeping the cable stationary when the cable is being pulled. So options include finding an oem green bushing and slicing it to insert the cable and taping it back up, or if you search online at walmart for "Strain relief bushing nylon cable clamp" that looks close, or again looking at walmart combine a "nylon standoff spacer" with a "cable clamp". In any of these cases some duck tape or electrical tape might do the trick to keep the bushing in place, you just don't want things rubbing. I would also add a piece of electrical tape around the red retainer clip after it is clipped in as an insurance policy.

great video....is that the same for the driver side rear door. can't open from the inside, only open from the outside. is that latch the same...Honda dealer wanted $197 to fix. how would i know what part needed.
@BigMontanaful
@BigMontanaful 9 жыл бұрын
Brian C Make sure you first check if the child locks are on. Is the tension different between the rear door handles? It will be hard to tell because there is a spring on the handle, but you should feel it start to catch when you open the handle about 50%. If you don't feel any pull besides the spring, I am guessing something broke between the handle and the door latch or the cable popped off. The only way to tell would be to pull off the handle (similar to what is shown here) and look for damage on the end of the cable or something broken on the handle. You can try to pull the cable to see if your door opens and that would be a good indicator it is the handle. I bought the handle on a big auction site for

My driver side door will not open from the inside..... would replacing the handle as you did fix my problem??
@BigMontanaful
@BigMontanaful 8 жыл бұрын
Before taking it to the shop I would open up the door handle and see what it looks like. If the cable is still there like time code 1:34 then it either slipped off the handle or a piece of plastic broke off the handle such as the metal retainer clip. Both of these are easy to fix, in the latter case get a new handle and they are not very expensive so you saved yourself a lot of money. If nothing looks wrong, try and pull somewhat gently on the cable and see if it feels like it is broken. If you look around and don't see the cable then it is more complicated. You could take off the door panel like kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pLZ1gqyFzJrXoZc.html , but if you don't know what you are doing I would suggest go to a shop. It could be any number of things

The OEM Chrome was peeling as I mentioned in the description. 99.9 % of time time I am the only driver of the car so I don't suspect physical damage, over the period of 2 years the chrome started peeling away for no apparent reason (might have been a manufacturer fault and the temp fluctuations caused it to get worse). Anyways, for me it created a very sharp metal ridge I wanted to resolve
