Enjoy a forward facing view along the steeply graded Vydrovska Valley branch of the Čierny Hron Railway to Vydrovo. The driver kindly allowed me to attach a camera to a hand rail near the front of the engine, affording a view not normally available to passengers as the train leaves Čierny Balog station to run next to the road, at times through the gardens of the houses lining the route, before eventually gaining its own right of way to tackle the steep climb to Vydrovo. The camera was left in place for staged photographic run-pasts as well as the run back down the valley.

Track gauge 760 mm (2 ft 5 15⁄16 in) - Original video taken on 30th June 2018. Tour organised by

Hi, Tim. So many thanks for uploading all Your videos about beautiful landscapes of my country. Very inspiring and exciting. A few years ago (about 2002) I bought one VHS tape about ČHŽ and after my household moving I left it boxed in an old house used as "garbage garage", I guess it is broken...

Hi Tim! Very well, I glad to continue this travel by you on this best steam train. I use your camera as "virtual eyes" or huge periscope to watching the world. And your good work to shoots the movies is help me, because today I cannot going to long travels, alas!.. Thank you very much! One question of: I understadn't whai is so strange 'evolution' does the locomotive between 14:24+ and 19:30 on this railway? /I mean the loco two times returns, and lter too... So I is terrible curious man to old age, hahaha. And I will not rest until I understand. :-)/

The train preformed a photographic run by for the benefit of the tour participants. The train ran past the station where all those wanting to take photographs, including myself got off. The train ran back down the hill, so that if could steam back uphill past the photographers, it then reversed back to where we had all got off to pick us up again before continuing onto the end of the line. I hope that explains it. Tim.

I use the effect to bring myself into or take myself out of shot when doing my "piece to camera". For indoor shots a simple fade, for outdoor shots I use Threshold 1 or 2. Cheers!

Cheers & Thanks! I've found the threshold effect to work better with outdoor shots and a simple fade for indoor. I tried threshold on indoor shots and found it caused mild discolouration to the backdrop. This I've learned though a bit of experimentation.

At 8:51, I guess the old loco needed a moment to "get her breath back"(pick up some steam). I had to wait a day or two before watching this as I was almost out of data reserve(I was down to my last few gigabytes of my August allocation and had to wait for midnight, 1st September to get my new 50Gb allocation).

Hi Neil, we stopped at 8:51 to pick up some photographers. I found the internet strange in Australia, when I was last there it was expensive to use and very limited in the hotels we stayed in. I am used to fibre optic unlimited internet in my home for a reasonable price and it is free in most cafes, public buildings and hotels throughout the world. Internet TV is overtaking terrestrial and satellite TV in most of Europe, with the likes of Virgin, Netflix, BT and later Sky subscribers all receiving their TV via the phone line. It is just some rural villages now that don't have hi-speed internet in the UK.

End of Track 28:33. Clearly it went further at one time. I would paint that log red or yellow or something. Any chance they might extend the line?

Hi, I'm not sure what the future holds, I believe most of their effort is going into maintaining the track that is there, some of which was closed on our visit because it had below the required standards to run passenger trains. Hi, I'm glad you enjoyed it. The thing at 41:35 was a piece of artwork, the valley was a sort of nature park, with a mixture of forestry artifacts, art pieces and the odd bit of redundant military hardware.
