18 minutes. This video shows the chaos which ensues when Swanston Street Collins Street and Bourke Street trams are all funnelled through Latrobe Street thanks to a protest demonstration.

Very interesting video. I would have thought the traffic lights could be operated remotely in order to clear the backlog of trams but maybe they are not monitored by cctv in Melbourne. In Sydney we have a traffic control centre that monitors all CBD intersection so the traffic lights can be remotely controlled when necessary.

Sydney’s traffic control room has been in operation for decades. I don’t know if Melbourne’s traffic lights are monitored but the name of the game down there seems to never disrupt road traffic to help trams. In fact I believe they have spent 80 years perfecting the art of obstructing trams as much as possible. That is in normal circumstances as well as during deviations like this.

Love these videos. Just curious how you always get the unobstructed views, either from the tram or on the train

Thomas Coates The train videos are taken by a train driver. Obviously nobody is in the cab with him to get in the way. On the trams, I have a suction cup to hold the camera on the glass screen behind the driver. On a few occasions a passenger has accidentally bumped the camera and I have straightened it quickly. Nobody has intentionally interfered with the camera.

Not a whole lot of social distancing there, so I hope the area is virus-free! It's good that there are some alternative routes to take even though the trams bunch up at the traffic lights. Some remote or manual operation of the lights would have helped to keep the trams moving, but the system may not be set up to do that. With so many trams drawing current at the same time I'm surprised that there weren't a lot of circuit breakers popping!

Bob Rogers. At the time of that video, the virus was news overseas but was not yet affecting Australia. The traffic light programmers have had 80 years experience at delaying Melbourne trams as best they can and certainly were going to make no exceptions for this diversion. It is surprising that the overhead power did not go off more often but most of the trams generally were just creeping along so not using much electricity, although air-conditioners were going.

0:55 Woah. I have a hundred-year-old Ansonia pendulum clock and the ticking was perfectly in-sync with the hazard lights on the tram in front right up to your cut. Sorry, ignore me :>

Fun little video! 😊 I have a doubt though. What's the text at 1:28 supposed to read? I think you missed a couple of words there. 😜 Edit: and what's that announced at 9:55? 😜 needs a better recording at the announcing lady's end! 🤣 Eidt2: perfect reaction at 11:45 🤣

What is unclear about that? The video was recorded early in the year when Route 30 existed. It is gone now and Rt 12 provides a second Latrobe St service instead.

@@tressteleg1Boxtel, the Netherlands. Given we have a train service to the surrounding three major cities, they think we don't need anything else.
@tressteleg14 жыл бұрын
Ah yes, Google Earth found it for me. I thought that the Netherlands was cross-crossed by public transport everywhere, but not so that far east, it seems, but of course the train would be handy to get anywhere fast.

A lot of traffic in La Trobe St. Nice to see this situation. How does it see with Covid 19 in Queensland? Here in germany we only know about the Lockdown in Melbourne and Victoria. They say that in New South Wales oder South Australia life goes much normal. Take good care of you😉
@tressteleg14 жыл бұрын
Peter Leidgen Yes, Latrobe St is jammed. Victorian people are very limited in what they can now do. There are small Covid clusters in New South Wales in different places so Queensland has shut its borders entirely against anyone from the southern states. There is no Covid out in the population in Queensland, and a few other states are the same. We are supposed to use social distancing but otherwise life is normal without fear.

@@tressteleg1 Thanks for the info👍 I only heared about a Shutdown in a few suburbs of Melbourne and that other states have closed there borders. In germany the situation is OK. In some other parts of Europe like Spain Turkey and eastern Europe it seems to be not very good.
@tressteleg14 жыл бұрын
Peter Leidgen Your news is old regarding Victoria. A week or two ago, apart from if you are going to work you must not travel more than 5 km from your house. Nearly all the shops are closed except supermarkets, chemists shops, petrol stations, and a few things like that and everybody must be in their house no later than 8 pm. And the school children must do their lessons at home. It’s not quite clear what the situation is in Europe but it does seem as though they don’t care if only small numbers get sick every day. And thanks for your earlier wishes to me but I think all Queenslanders can feel perfectly safe even if some do worry for nothing.

Victorian Transport Videos My target is less ambitious - just one new video each week but of course they are longer. Sometimes I am ready for several weeks in advance, but some are last-minute rushes. Something you may care to consider is that some people might prefer to hear the noises of the trains so you could have music when they are reading your texts and hear the trains when they go past. Just something to think about.
