I really appreciate how you framed your engagement of art (all kinds) as a conversation with the creator(s). That really is a great way to think of it and I too want to know if I am communicating with an honest to god human or a machine. I don't follow kickstarter closely anymore, but as crowdfunded games make it to retail, I will want to know which publishers are using AI so I can avoid them entirely.

Yes some game fill the same niche. So if I always choose game X over game Y, Y will get cut 80-90% of the time

Totally on point on the Space Marine game. It is interesting as the board is nice, the rulebook is nice quality in terms of production (colorful high gloss heavy paper), but the tokens are cut your own made no sense. I had my wife cut them since she is a paper crafter and she complained that they did a horrible job even marking the edges to know where to cut. The game itself is utter trash in terms of rules and balance. It is 40k lite but with some unclear rules then with extra stuff sort of tacked on. My feeling is that more time was spent on artwork and layout of the rulebook than actually writing the game and missions. It is one of those things were management tells you that this is what is going in the box and make something of it in like a weekend.

Amazing episode, thank you so much for this. I think you put into words a lot of what I find so off-putting about "AI" generated images and text where any reasonable person would expect to see real human-made art. It's really gross on top of being theft from artists.

Interesting take on Beer and Bread. I think it's a great game and I didn't experience this top-decking issue. Actually you see a lot of cards to choose from in each round, 9 in the fruitful years and 8 in the dry years.

i got a similar feeling, the topdecking thing, after my first couple of plays. i think 8-9 cards can feel like not too many.. but, i think it might just be more a matter of learning how to roll with the deck's punches with more familiarity.. like race for the galaxy etc. i think i'm going to give it many more tries at least :)... it's a weird beast made of familiar mechanisms, and the interactivity feels nicely high for an engine builder. maybe i won't literally hand the victory to my opponent one of these days..

My take on AI is similar to yours, for many of the same reasons that you outlined. I realise that I wont be able to detect AI art, but having knowledge that a human hand played a part in its creation will add something intangible to it that is important to me. So I will now ask this in campaigns that I back etc. I also thought about this in the context of Too Many Bones recently. The art in that game can be divisive for many people, but on the same token, perhaps "flawed images" are harder to generate in AI

I think I missed what was going on with Too Many Bones. My group is decidedly split on that game, and I can't say I cared for it too much (although a bit undecided to be fair), so I haven't been keeping up with the new stuff for it.

don't compare yourself to that other sleezy content creator. You are great at reviewing board games. That other guy just always came across as a sleeze bag before the controversy. If creators like yourself didnt exist and all we had were those other guys that command money for positive reviews I would be out of board gaming for sure.

I appreciate that. Definitely don't think of myself like him in anyway. No worries. That kind of stuff just bums me out. (along with a trove of other creators not in the board game space). I try not to fixate on it. I'll just go watch a Rodney Smith video and all is well :)

@@DriveThruReview PS, not sure if you like deck builders and Marvel Legendary but a new base set just got released called What If. If you ever got the chance to play and review would be great to get your point on that game. I havent played it yet, but been consuming all the expansions lately. Love it. Not sure how you feel about Dominion or those types of games. Keep up the great work!

@@masacuna That sounds cool. I played some of Legendary way back when with the original Marvel set and Aliens set. I like the idea of What If? though. That sounds like it could be done.

I'm not surprised that Quackawhatever dude got into hot water. I hate his reviews and never satch them anymore. He reviews games he's played once, and he has terrible opinions IMO.

this is a perfect example of human connection - you articulate things about your feelings about AI created art in games that mirror mine very closely but yet that I've not found anyone else discussing 🩵
