Here I am driving over the Francis Scott Key Bridge. This steel arch bridge crosses the Patapsco River and Baltimore Harbor. This video was filmed driving on Maryland I-695 eastbound in Baltimore, MD in a tractor trailer.
Fort Carroll can be seen in the middle of the water off in the distance. It is on an artificial island and is an abandoned hexagonal sea fort.
I hope you enjoy!
Recorded on 8/10/2020.

That's a fairly normal size bridge by Maryland standards. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge, which is nearby, is much taller and 4 times as long. Then there's the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel which seems to never end when you're driving on it/through it. It's over 17 miles long!

I've driven on it many times and I've never liked it. It feels old and uncomfortable because of it's narrow lanes and it's a bumpy patchwork of ancient asphalt. I honestly don't know that it was ever repaved since it was built. But just like everyone is a saint after they die, all bridges are apparently considered beautiful after they're gone.

For me that's a good thing, the views are beautiful. I commuted over the bridge for 28 years, so I guess I'm used to it. Every day, seeing the weather changes, and many thunderstorms, one I remember had lightning striking the bridge supports high overhead. And so many ships going under as I was driving, It was never considered that we were in any sort of danger. I can't wait to drive over the new bridge.

Based on Ft. Carroll, it looks like this drive is over the bridge in the NE direction. If so, the pier that was struck by the Dali is underneath at about the 1:10 mark in the video, just starting the SW portion of the main truss-suspended span cantilever. The location of the repair crew and trucks on the bridge that night was at about 1:18 (in the oncoming lane). Condolences to the families of those who were lost.

I hope the bridge isn't rebuilt exactly as it was before. Feel like it needs to be 6 lanes with one on each side being reserved for HOV's, plus a pedestrian and bike path. Plus from the pedestrian path, there should be a memorial on the bridge for the construction workers who died. Perhaps a marker at each of the 6 points they were standing at when it fell.
