Hi Alan: This proves once again, that many "cheap" components of Chinese origin, are of excellent quality and compare favorably to quality brands sold at many times their cost. I for one, am going for two of these units one for my lathe and another for my mill. Your adjustment and calibration, is the mode that I would use for direct reading of part OD. Thanks for the demo and clever solution to your mounting problems. Cheers

I have a new lathe with similar dro and difficult to understand manual, couldn’t find how to enter Setup, so thank you! Also appreciate the detailed installation steps, although mine came installed your videos made the whole setup easily understood.

Thank you for helping me to get my cross slide scale to read the diameter! I bought my DRO from ebay. The seller did not provide a manual for my DRO.

Very slick installation Allen. I installed a DRO on my small benchtop mill and am seriously looking into installing a DRO on my 10 Atlas lathe. Best of luck with the new installation.

Very nice installation. I've just finished installing my lathe DRO. Have you been able to figure out what all the settings are on the DRO? There are several in the set up menu that I don't know what they are. Also, I have two of these JCS900 units but they are slightly different in the button locations and the setup menu is also different. I am assuming that the Firmware is different. Do you know if the Firmware is available for download online? Thanks. Regards.

Hi I would think the firmware is made to suit the system on your dro.I’ve not seen any firmware updates. If it all works why would you change the firmware? Your instruction manual should give you all the details.

@@enotsengineering As many have noted, the instruction manual for these import DRO's are difficult to understand and in some cases, impossible. There are several options in the set up menu that I have no clue as to what they do. I have two JCS900-3AE units. Same model number, but very different. Different keys and layout. The problem with the second one is that the arrow keys function backwards. The down arrow cycles SDM 1, 2 ,3, etc., and the Up arrow cycles SDM 3, 2, 1. INC, ABL. And I cannot get into the secondary menu by pressing the mm/inch button 6 times during self-test, and the manual states. I've tried dozens of time. Hence the Firmware question.

You have just solved the problem for me about the mounting of the cross slide, but have you given it a thought about fluids running under the shield ?

Hi Soren I don't use coolant on my lathe. You could use sealant to seal the cover to the back plate and there is a gap between the cross slide and mounting bracket so any coolant running over the cross slide top should run behind the glass scale case onto the bed.

Thanks for video and walk through. I’ve recently bought a Boxford AUD and inherited a previous owners truly terrible attempt to fit the DRO. My version has two T slots on the rear of the cross slide so I intend to make use of them both similar to what you’ve done. One question though, presumably you need to remove your DRO when fitting the milling slide? I’m considering using much shorter T nuts so that the rest of the slot remains free for mounting. Is this something you’ve considered/have any thoughts on?

Hi Martyn The tee nuts could be about 20mm long if you use two to hold the backplate you could make them 15mm. They only hold the scale and do not have any force applied to them.

Hi Paul Yes I looked at mounting the scale vertically using pulleys and wire cable but that become more complicated with balance weights

Hey, I got the same one for only 2 month's now, and the Y axis give's no more value , it stay's on zero Do you have any knowledge on these problems ? Keep up going with your good video's

Hi Ronald you need to find out if its the scale or display swap your scale to the x axis to see if it stays at zero. If so check the scale is clean and free from oil/swarf and the wires at each end are all connected and not damaged. Also check if the display zero button is not stuck in the on position If its still not working ask your supplier if they will replace it.

@@enotsengineering Hi Alan, I send you a tweed but got no answer ! I asked Banggood to relplace it, but instead I got a refund, not the aspected amount, anyway I order a new one and see further on. If this one will fail again, I have serious thoughts about Banggood. Thanks for your support

Why you change the x axes to y axes ? On the mill the x axes is the same as the x axes on a lathe.

Hi Markus on a mill the X axis is left to right the Y axis is towards you and away and the Z axis is up and down.On a lathe the z axis is left to right the y axis is towards you and away. As DRO displays for 2 axis have x and y we use the X axis as the Z axis . think of the lathe as a milling machine lying on its side.

On the video I had the plugs in the wrong axis
