Drone Footage: Waltons Inspired John & Olivia's Bed & Breakfast Inn Schuyler VA

This video is a bit different than what we usually upload but thought there might be some fans of the classic Waltons TV series out there and be interested in seeing the hometown of Earl Hamner, Jr. I'm learning to fly the drone. This footage was taken on a trip last November to Waltons Mountain Virginia. This Inn had just recently opened. Across the street from the Inn is the Waltons Mountain Museum and just down the street we get a glimpse of the back of the original Hamner House that the family that the TV series was based on lived. #TheWaltons #Drone #WaltonInspiredBedandBreakfast

Love the old movies, my wife and I are hook on them, this is the way we were brought up, pretty close, make you feel like your at home. Thanks for sharing. Grew up on the waltons, and this is where our family has a lots of their ways or saying, love it, miss these good old days.

The large wing at the back, larger than the front facade, illustrates just how much building is required to fit in all the bedrooms, baths and closet space into a home today even as it looks like a modest home from the past. Looks great though!

But, they didn’t have the back wing. That was a 2 story salt box with wrap around porch.

I believe they have plans to build the barn at some point. There is a store on the location of where the real General Merchandise store stood before it burned down.

The front does look a bit like the real home but that, sadly is where the similarities end.

The idea was to make the inn look like the TV version of the Waltons House - not the original Hamner House which is located just down the street from this Inn. The set used for the Waltons House on TV was not even a real house but a set that has actually been used in several shows just modded to suit what show it was being used for.

I went there with family who live in VA. Everyone was so friendly. Next-door just a few feet down the road. Is the house where Earl Hamner & his family grew up in. 💁🏻‍♀️🏠you can see the museum as well across the street.

Nice music. Would have been nice to see where the Hamner house was in relation to the bnb. The camera was moving so much up and down I was starting to get dizzy!! Thanks for posting.

If you go to 1:44 in video where it is showing the Waltons Mt Museum (former school) and then it spans to the right, the white house with tin roof is the Hamner House (if you look across the street to the left of camera, you can see the post office (brick building) this would be at 1:50 in the video. To the right of the Hamner house is a garden shed with green roof. Sorry again for the up and down movements. This was when I was still learning how to fly the drone.

The original location of where the real General Store was before it burned down is just down the road from this place. There is a store on that location now but is not the original store. The school where the Hamner children went is just across the street which is now the Waltons Mountain Museum. You might want to check out my son's YT Channel TJElevatorfan playlist of Schuyler VA as it has videos taken through out the years on our visits. PS My husband Jeff was from Easley, SC :)

All rooms have their own bathrooms at the B&B Inn. Check out TJElevatorfan's YT Channel as he shows pictures of inside the B&B Inn. The actual house the real Hamner family lived in does have only one bathroom but it is downstairs instead of upstairs. You can check out TJElevatorfan's YT Channel for videos on actual Hamner House as well.

They had planned to build the barn at a later time but the owner is actually selling because of family matters with her dad so no barn addition in the works after all unless the new owners decide to keep it as a business instead of personal home.

As close as it can be yes downstairs, upstairs not so much. If you go to TJElevatorfan's YT Channel and search his playlist of Waltons Mountain you can see photos from inside the B&B

The museum across the street has a replica of Ike's store and also just down the street from this B&B there is a convenience store on the original site where the store based on Ike's used to be (the original store burned down years ago) Check out TJElevatorfan's Waltons playlist and you can see those replicas in his videos through the years

That road isn't exactly a main road. Schuyler doesn't get much traffic.

Main road ... LOL. You rarely have traffic on the small mountain road. There's only a few houses up the hill.

Other than a slight style of house (the real house did not sprawl out so large and not shaped that way) that is where the similarity ends. There is no Barn there is no sawmill there are no trees all around the house close by and there is no shed that was turned into a small home for Ben and Cindy so no, this does not look like or feel like what The Walton's home would have been.

This is a replica of the TV house not the original Hamner house. There are plans to add a barn and other items I believe. This video was shot before the pandemic hit and shortly after the Inn had opened. If you go to TJElevatorfan's KZfaq Channel and search his Waltons Mountain playlist you can see pictures of the inside of the Inn and see where they are trying to recreate the TV version of the Waltons House. There are some areas where they get it right and some areas where they do not get it right but it is nice that they are trying to pay tribute to the TV show
