Pictures from Schuyler, VA (The real Walton's Mountain) Schuyler was the birthplace and home of writer Earl Hamner, Jr. He is best known for the CBS television series The Waltons, which was based on his experiences of growing up the eldest child of a large rural family in depression era America. Earl and his mother and siblings attended Schuyler Baptist Church near their home-place. There are still a few of the members that knew them. The church still has services every Sunday.

This brings back great memories of my childhood. I grew up on my Uncle & Great-Grandfathers farm. Those were the best of times that I will NEVER forget.

The greenery in the real Virginia mountains looks more plush and green than on the Waltons' TV series. I like the TV kitchen as it looks more like the kind they had back then. Enjoyed the trip through it all.

The mountains of Virginia are much different than the mountains of California which is where the filming of the series took place as far as scenery is concerned..

That's because they filmed the show in California. I knew right away it wasn't Virginia.

When this was on..the waltons in the 70s..i was in my twenties...and never cared to watch it..i thought it was to boreing...and to me John boy looked like a,waze...now iam.almost 72..and like it..sooo much
